Start nowhere, pick up a guitar, learn some basic shit and start writing. Don't poison your head with the played out tropes and expectations. Just do it. These people will fill your head with bullshit. The guitar is losing steam, which is why it's about to get good again.
The Smiths
Modest mouse is how most ppl I know got into it
Elliott Smith isn't quite rock but he's kind've an essential

listen to fucking anything, your race shouldn't dictate what you start with you fucking idiot
>He doesn’t know
This question is way too broad
i know that black people usually listen to hip hop and that they usually have a lower iq than the majority of people from nearly any other race
am i missing something here
you shouldn't bring your race to the question. fuck you
>tfw I’m the one who found this interview, cropped Kerri and Molly’s face to be placed right above the quotes, and then first posted it here
:^)
Unironically this, rediscovering polyrhythms are 90% of “innovation” in indie/alt/punk rock.
Fuck these guys, what artists do you currently like OP?
The Jesus and Mary Chain and Pavement
Ignore everything recorded after 1997
Don’t listen to this guy
Go listen to Interpol you retarded shitbag
Begin at the beginning. Big Star. They're from Memphis, too, which is practically black Mecca so there's that.
>Begin at the beginning. Big Star.
You mean Velvet Underground?
Are you guys talking about The Seeds?
Sure, that works too. I mean, I would argue that most "indie rock" probably has more in common with Big Star than Velvet Underground, but you're not wrong.
VU s/t was Big Star
Anyways unrelated but I saw Spiritualized the other night and during Let's Dance when he says "If they got Big Star on the radio they'll let us stay" the crowd went wild and I was glad to know people know who they are
>VU s/t was Big Star
Them's fightin words, user. But I'm not here to fight, I just want the dude to listen to Big Star. Your anecdote is cool, though.
I haven't listened to the Seeds but I believe you.
