imo the point of tourism is to binge all the good accessible albums and dwelve into better stuff after you've warmed up to it.
I've liked radohead for some time but I'm listening to other shit and not exclusively listening to them now

>better stuff
but the stuff that's actually more obscure tend to be more shit
genre tourism is picking the cherries from the top and those who really love a genre can dig deeper and wade through a mountain of shit to find a few cherries more

>inflating the esteem of mediocre records
Except most of these records are the peak of their genre, especially the jazz ones, if you actually gauge the quality of the music on content rather than popularity

This is the only thread i've seen in mu that's actually made sense. finally. unless this is all a meme which it probably is, i agree anyway. There's a reason why things get popular and getting to know the bests of the best before you dive deep usually makes it worth while, instead of idk just choosing at random what genre you want to dive deep in and listening to 30-50 obscure records before deciding if you like it or not

sad that you tourist will never really hear good music

>there is nothing wrong with it
Correct.
>it is morally justifiable
Incorrect.

>dude let's all listen to the exact same albums and nothing else! there's no way an obscure band could be as good as Radiohead!

ain't lyin

Billie Eilish's new album is the best album that came out in 2019.

You can't prove me wrong, fucking dipshit NEET faggots.

it's perfect.

a perfect 5.0/10

morals don't even come to the question when talking about listening to music lmfao you dumb zoomer

The popular stuff is what's good. There are no great undiscovered records anymore.

There's no way Miles Davis is tourist core (at least not that record if anything).
Also, are you aware that people have surely heard Currents and RAM waaaaay before even knowing of the existence of this place? So how can they be considered tourist core?
Same thing could be said about Ok computer and Macintosh desu, but those are just an inherent part of Yea Forums by now so I see the point of those.

did you even read my post
I said there is nothing wrong with genre tourism

bro if i can listen to pretty good music easily and not have to sift through 75 shitty albums to find one that's a little better i'm not going to waste my time. ignorance is bliss

Tourism is the absolute best way to consume music.
Obscure music is usually obscure for a very good reason. It's almost never worth the time to do autistic shit like discogs spelunking. I wasted so many days of my life trying to find an IDM producer on the level of Aphex Twin. Label after label drained and consumed, multiple 15 dollar CDs purchased when the release wasn't on RED or slsk, a couple purchases of 75 dollar cassettes or CDs, and nothing but countless disappointments. At the very least I have an excellent ratio and a good selection on my slsk account.

The uncomfortable, inescapable truth is that tourists are listening to the 98thth percentile of quality of any specific genre. Whether or not you want to venture out to find to find those 99th percentile releases is up to you. I wasted years of my life and I'm getting old.

expect thats not what actually would happen if you listened to 75 albums if you knew what you were looking for, youd just realize that a lot of them are better than the popular ones

This but unironically.

super accurate score desu

based

this

How do I know you're not just inflating their greatness because they're more obscure

because i have a brain

Then why use the term "tourist"

based and redpilled

mingus is the best talking as someone who has listened to more jazz than everything you've ever listened put together
