oui

>beethoven tier
already a pretty thin demographic, arguably a nonexistent one

shit tier bait

what do you mean user?

i reckon hes trying to just provoke the argument that female composers arent as good as male ones
gets it
or mabye im just wearing a tinfoil hat
oh well

Mozart's sister supposedly was as talentted as him or so, but was forced to give up on composing because she was female and so she ended up just teaching music to children

Lack of rights crushed most of what could’ve been made back then.

>hes trying to just provoke the argument that female composers arent as good as male ones
can you back up your implication that female composers are as good as male ones?

Reminder females weren't allowed to vote or legally divorce in Beethoven's time, let alone be provided the same level of education the sons of wealthy men were granted. Not saying women would make great composers guaranteed, I'm saying the system wasn't really equipped to make it happen in the first place.

>Lack of rights
rights have never stopped anyone from being creative, dont be silly, user.

>An almost dead genre whose best known works came out in times of Victorian gender norms.

How about nowadays? Women have vote now, there are even more women than men in universities, do we have female Beethoven equivalents today? since they now have all the rights and benefits and privileges to fully reach their potential?

What male Beethoven equivalents are there?

thats exactly why i think its bait, i cant
that said there have been some good f composers over the years
i think shes seriously good, and her sister

>female Beethoven equivalents today
Oh, yeah, Billie Eilish

Do we have male equivalents today? Look up Alma Deutshcer, and remember that the music she's writing is widely regarded today as kitschy nostalgia, just as any man who was seriously writing using classical/romantic tropes today would be.

Scratch that, how many Beethoven equivalents have there been across history?
Ruth Crawford Seeger is another great one.

It is already difficult to gain a reputation in the community as a male and considering that females have been historically barred from this community that makes it virtually impossible for them to gain any reputation. It's just a stupid argument because there's hardly any proof given my previous statement. It's essentially the same argument as black people aren't good composers when they simply haven't participated in it seeing as it was primarily a european movement for the majority of it's history. Women and black people have shown to demonstrate creativity and skill equal to white males so that backs up the implication that there is an equal capacity across gender and race to be good.

explain yourself user

yeah whites are as good at running as negroes too

Meredith Monk is one. I like her.

>Women and black people have shown to demonstrate creativity and skill equal to white males
why did you make this a race thing? are you ok user?

If she hadn't died so young I genuinely believe she would've been as esteemed as ravel or debussy. it really is a shame, there was so much potential

this

These threads always appear trying to disparage women or black people by pointing out their lack of accomplishment in classical music.

sounds like musica antigua, like some pre medieval shit, rudimentary.

There are plenty of excellent black composers. Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, the list goes on...
