Syd Barret
The Beatles, John Lennon in particular. McCartney is pretty based.
no, he's right, the "best guitarist of all time" being a nigger is a clear political agenda against whites and it's pathetic how far it's come
does literally anyone say Hendrix was the best of all time? he makes top 10 but I have never once seen him get the number 1 spot, and there are literal THOUSANDS of lists about this.
Eric Clapton
k my apologies, the rolling stone ranks him as number 1 lmao, what a joke. they put BB king ahead of SRV too, who the fuck makes these lists
You must look at 1000's of shitlists
Stevie Ray Vaughan
I corrected myself two posts later, The Rolling Stones ranking would be the most "credible" source, but that list is straight boomer tier crap. Your average metal guitarist today could play circles around 90% of those guys.
You start
retard
He’s sliiiiightly overrated as a songwriter, but as a guitarist, he’s for sure overrated.
it's not all about technique, idiot
no its about pure skill I agree. Guitarists today can play everything that came out yesterday, people have simply improved overall. You think the first cars made are still the best cars in existence? hardly.
this has to be b8
>political agenda against whites
/pol/ pls go
There's better guitarists out there from a technical skill standpoint, but I still enjoy his music. His showmanship is cool too(playing with his teeth, behind his back). His drummer was underrated/overshadowed too IMO.
Imagine being this much of a pleb. Playing fast is cool and all, but that's not what music is all about. Let me guess your a metalfag?
the metal players can play fast and slow, they're simply more talented than the guys who can only play slow. Literally any guitarist can cover an Eric Clapton song, but can Eric Clapton cover one of theirs? can Clapton play something from Metallica? can he even shred?
We'll never hear anyone as good as Jimi in our lifetime
I don't think he's overrated. He was so proficient that he could translate a passing emotion to his guitar playing, to the point where he could do it passively. I'm sure some of you might think that's just bullshit aka "he's just improvising and theres nothing special about it", or that he just plays one blues scale and it isn't that interesting (basically ignoring his mastery of blues improvisation, or can't tell the difference between his playing and any other blues rock group at that time). Also he wasn't just a virtuoso, he was actually a pretty great songwriter. I think about the chord changes on Hey Joe, for example. Also he was productionally/ instrumentally ahead of his time, Electric Ladyland was one of the first records to have more than two guitars in a song (i believe this was just after the invention of 8 track recording), i.e. in Crosstoen Traffic which has three or four guitar parts at once. Also he sang lead and played lead guitar at the same time flawlessly, which is impressive (most singers only play rhythm while singing aka chords since its easy).
>Can he even shred?
Why would anyone over the age of 15 want to shred
but CAN he? there are boomer guitarists who can shred, Eddie Van Halen certainly can, so if he can why can't Clapton?
Imagine being so retarded you not only think that there's an agenda against whites, but that it's being carried out with best-of lists
Who gives a shit they both suck
Being able to wank quickly on your instrument doesn't mean you're music is good.
Hey Joe was a cover song
There is an agenda against whites (look at S. Africa's leader literally leading the nation in singing along to a folk song about killing white settlers after passing a land redistribution law targeting and enabling violence against middle class white farmers, and then the liberal press saying it was all a right wing conspiracy and never happened), but Jimi Hendrix being great has nothing to do with it and the user you replied to was likely baiting.
fuck really
so jimi hendrix, probably THE MOST influential musician in the last 100 years is over rated? yes hendrix rifts are easy to learn but they brought so much soul and spirit to rock, it inspired legends like eddie hazel, john frusciante, and others who aspired the psychedelic rock guitar sound. i mean hell even zappa liked hendrix, the dude was a legend and his playing is so creative that if you play guitar you look at it and wonder "how the fuck did he think of this?" plus a real humble black guy even during a real racist fuckin time, all around hendrix is a good person to idolize if you play guitar or like music.
Fuck you're right. Well I think his original songs still are great.
When did Jack White perm his hair
This is now a boomer guitarist thread
youtube.com
Dickey betts was hella underrated
It’s not about being good at covering other people you dummy. It’s about technique, originality and overall making good songs, Eric Clapton excelled at that IMO.
This has to be a joke
we aren't discussing who the better songwriter is, we are strictly discussing talent at playing the guitar itself. Boomers definitely were/are amazing artists when it came to creating songs. And for the record im not even saying Clapton and Hendrix are shit, they're great. But are they the best GUITAR players? hardly.
It's a difference of values. Mainly that only faggy metalheads think being able to shred technically is the proper measure of best even though they all sound like shit
if they can shred, they can also not shred. We aren't discussing who makes better music here. Objective technical ability is the argument.
imagine defending boomer blues rock over metal
They both suck
Also categorizing things as boomer is a surefire way to show you're a lonely high schooler
we wouldn't have metal without boomer rock you fucking idiot. and if you're actually dissing blues then just fuck you
Only a handful of artists ever made meaningful music that is unique to the guitar. 99% of music incorporating guitars could get the same effects with violins or even synths sometimes. This is especially true for metal. When thinking about guitars in this fashion, guitarists are clearly pointless for anything other than modest session work. The only people interested in technical guitar skill in western pop music derivatives (incl metal) would be better off arguing over martial artists or basketball players.
Nah. Lennon-Mccartney made some of the best songs of all time. If you think otherwise you have shit taste
literally all of them
Came to post this. Glad to see it was one of the first replies.
Dickey Betts is based. Blue Sky is such a nice song.
You are a faggot.
>Be Hendrix
>Get called a coon, and "Whitey's puppet" for making the music he liked and get chased out of clubs for liking Bob Dylan
>Become accused of being part of some "anti-white agenda" for being black
Was Hendrix the most based in history?
He was a cool cat
