Start with something less radical, like 60s essential psych rock and 90s bands that played on a borderline between dream-pop and space-rock ( 7% Solution, Duster, Sianspheric, etc.) and, of course, shoegaze, especially the bands with greater psych-rock influence, like Southpacific.

As an alternative, try listening to all that stuff while being actually stoned, but I personally liked all these bands before even had smoked my first joint so idk if that helps

yob, earth, witchcraft, ufomannaut, bongripper, weedeater, all great. Electric wizards early stuff and album are my favourite, really dislike their newest album. Sleep - The Clarity, The Sciences album and Dopesmoker are awesome too.

It's monotonous only melodically, but compositionally it's pretty progressive actually: whirling riffs laying on one another supported by the kicking bass lines and repetitive drumming is very dope imo. And though it sounds quite far-fetched, I guess you could say that in this regard stoner doom is similar to minimalist classical, when the musicians despite of playing the same patterns actually build up pretty interestingly changing composition
