Bruh Moment

Bro, that's kinda cringe

it’s good but their others are better

great album, but it's not even in pink floyds top 5 lol

are you a teenage art hoe?

so Meddle just fucking disappeared?

ok we get it you're quirky and cool

contrarians

Wrongo, sluggo. Not even their best album. There is no pink floyd album after
>piper at the gates of dawn

Sorry, son, its the truth

Based

How can DSOTM be the greatest album of all time when what's basically a better version was released only three weeks later?

Attached: Larks_tongues_in_aspic_album_cover.jpg (300x300, 40K)

>no you dont hold the most mainstream opinion of this band therefore youre a contrarian
beep bop

So, how's your first year of highschool been so far?

Better not be talking down on animals baka

Crap, son. Sorry to break it to you. One of their low points. Glad you enjoy it, tho. Syd Barrett was the band, even when he wasnt in the band. You know what i mean, too. I know you do.

Every fucking time

Pretty good. Some of the students have a crush on me. This one sophomore in particular kept asking me if I could help tutor her after class and we've had sex 7 times now. Don't tell anyone.

Syd Barrett was a complete hack. You'll get over this phase and realize it too eventually.

any colour tho

Been listening to Syd for 35 years, son. Without Syd, there is no PF. Accept the truth.

Based truthposter

Based and larkspilled

>insanely boring
>I still love listening to it

Syd Barrett era lovers are hipsters. Gnomes my ass it's garbage. Syd Barrett is better picking his toes with chopsticks

Meddle is a great album but this one keeps the quality while having easy listening and replayability as sidekicks. It also has better lyrics than Meddle except Echoes.

>hipster

Is this 2007?

Nah. Say what you will about Syd but he has a very loyal fanbase. I'm not a sydfag but my dad is and he's in his 50s.

You may call it whatever you please but hipster isn't someone wearing hipster glasses. It is someone who deludes themselves in order to claim something previously obscure or looked over has great value so that he may pin it against the general orthodox opinion of the subject, equalizing his authority on the subject with the sum of other opinions. This is usually done by people with no authority or credit for maximum effect. Velvet Underground is a hipster band. Ezra Pound is a hipster poet. Hipsterism is make believe for social credit

My favorite band is Beatles and I think Syd era is the best one.
It's not my fault that no one in Pink Floyd was a songwriter as good as Syd. Roger fucking sucks, David is pretty good but not Syd good.

Syd is a terrible songwriter. The songs sound like highschool talent show compositions in order to surprise the audience. Roger does suck in songwriting but the stuff that they composed together as a band is like an airplane compared to Syd's Bike. Dark Side of the Moon, Echoes, Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Careful with that Axe Eugene. These are objectively better written songs.

How are people who discover something previously obscure or looked over and pin it against the general orthodox opinion of the subject and actually create something new called?

They are called quality artists.

However just because something obscure or previously looked over inspired something of greater worth doesn't change it's value.

For example Led Zeppelin's first album has a lot of stolen stuff. It's a great album but this doesn't mean the stolen works themselves are great.

>Syd is a terrible songwriter.
Lol this is just plain wrong. Syd was a very creative and interesting musician and he could translate everything in his music. This is what good songwriting is.

Attached: 1530670877350.jpg (675x601, 90K)

melody is the voice of God

I like this album but goddamn the people shitting on syd in this thread are so cringy

Hot take:
The Final Cut is a good album. Not Now John and Two Suns in the Sunset are patrician.

He probably was a good guy and he is well loved by Pink Floyd but he is not a real musician.
P.S. just checked his paintings and tell you what, he is no painter either.

Let me leave this here as a tribute to Syd's greatness xD

Lucifer Sam, siam cat.
Always sitting by your side
Always by your side.
That cat's something I can't explain.
Ginger, ginger, Jennifer Gentle you're a witch.
You're the left side
He's the right side.
Oh, no!
That cat's something I can't explain.
Lucifer go to sea.
Be a hip cat, be a ship's cat.
Somewhere, anywhere.
That cat's something I can't explain.
At night prowling sifting sand.
Hiding around on the ground.
He'll be found when you're around.
That cat's something I can't explain.

I'm taking your bait and using it to wipe my ass

What bait? As I posted above his lyrics are like my cousin wrote them after smoking weed for the first time.

Syd Barret:
I want to tell you a story
About a little man
If I can.
A gnome named Grimble Grumble.
And little gnomes stay in their homes.
Eating, sleeping, drinking their wine.
He wore a scarlet tunic,
A blue green hood,
It looked quite good.
He had a big adventure
Amidst the grass
Fresh air at last.
Wining, dining, biding his time.
And then one day - hooray!
Another way for gnomes to say
Hoooooooooray.
Look at the sky, look at the river
Isn't it good?
Look at the sky, look at the river
Isn't it good?
Winding, finding places to go.
And then one day - hooray!
Another way for gnomes to say
Hoooooooooray.
Hooooooooooooooray.

Pink Floyd without Syd Barrett:

Ticking away the moments
That make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours
In an off-hand way

Kicking around on a piece of ground
In your home town
Waiting for someone or something
To show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine
Staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long
And there is time to kill today

And then the one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

(Solo)

And you run and you run
To catch up with the sun
But it's sinking

Racing around
To come up behind you again

The sun is the same
In a relative way
But you're older

Shorter of breath
And one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter
Never seem to find the time

Plans that either come to naught
Or half a page of scribbled lines

Hanging on in quiet desperation
Is the English way

The time is gone
The song is over
Thought I'd something more to say

Home
Home again
I like to be here
When I can

When I come home
Cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones
Beside the fire

Far away
Across the field
Tolling on the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spell...

You can't possibly prefer Syd Barrett

1st - music is not only about lyrics. That's just one of the components, loveless is great even if most of the lyrics are hard to catch
2nd - lyrics don't necessarily need to be what you expect them to be. You can tell nonsense stories and it can be cool the same

The lyrics here to me are more interesting in the pink floyd song.
However generally syd barrett makes more interesting music. The chord changes are much less obvious than the ones pink floyd have. And yet Syd manages to keep the songs catchy, the same if not more than pink floyd. I don't think I know pink floyd well enough to decide which I prefer, but dismissing syd the way you are doing shows you just don't get it and got pleb filtered.

But of course you gotta act as if the gods have revealed the truth to you only and everyone except you is dumb. I think this is why many people hate pink floyd, retarded arrogant fanbase

Music is not just about lyrics that's true but Time's lyrics are one of the best lyrics ever written. It is elegant, has a good flow, relatable if you are +25, colorful with a change of pace and it matches the overall theme of time to song ending which is very creative. Gnome's lyrics are ...drugs..cool.

I am not a Pink Floyd fan but you, as a music fan must listen to Dark Side of the Moon and if you like it proceed to listen to Meddle, Wish You were Here, Atom Heart Mother They are legendary albums objectively, from their production to melodies to overall cohesion to lyrics objectively.I believe after listening to those albums your opinion is bound to change.

I said I agree that the lyrics are better in the pink floyd song
>you, as a music fan must listen to Dark Side of the Moon
I disagree. But I did hear it and plan relistening to it better. Just for personal culture(and pleasure)
>proceed to listen to Meddle, Wish You were Here, Atom Heart Mother They are legendary albums objectively
I'm not sure I will. I have plenty other stuff to listen to. I might
>your opinion is bound to change.
I might think better of pink floyd after, but I wouldn't like barret less. And you're still judging him by lyrics it seems. I think you should give him a chance

I'm sorry to hear about your ADD.

>if the opinion is mainstream, it's wrong
you are as bad as op

He didn't say that you faggot

Yea PF with Syd was playful, psychedelic and catchy.
PF without Syd is boring.

I think the albums you like are for pretentious hipsters that want McDonalds 2deep4u special whereas Barrett is an actually sincere person that never cared about looking cool for faggots like you, unlike Waters

why the homophobia tho

Correct

Dogs is the worst song in the album lol

When you get good taste in music, you realize this is their best.

based

You are the delusional one that can't accept the reality that different people has different tastes.

Your entire taste is based on so called "credible people with authority" and you eat up whatever they claim good and dismiss anything as hipster shit as you don't have a free mind to think for yourself.

group think at its finest

Not even the best album of its year

When you get better taste in music, you'll realize this is their best.

wannabe sgt pepper with the choir and symphonic crap. i prefer the subtle mellotron and the dyi minimalism on ummagumma

why am i the first person to point out how terrible money is and how it doesn't fit on the album at all? huge oversight

Idk about fitting in but ive always thought money was a shitty song both musically and lyrically.

Lyrically it’s passable. The saxophone section carries the song a lot, but that’s okay because it sounds really great. At that point on dark side a normal song is really needed so it works fine.

how does anyone like this? i listened to it and it's literally pretentious "look im psychedelic LOOK LOOK" garbage.
gay as hell

Attached: barrett.jpg (500x500, 53K)

Larks is great and all, but how is it a "better version" of Dark Side? It is better, but they aren't near similar enough to be copies. Even on a superficial level they feel completely different.

well at least you didnt post ok computer

>>>/z/

shut up faggot

you are intentionally trying to be a bad person and that makes me extremely sad. Stop.

I was kind of shitposting, but "Time" and "Exiles" feel similar somehow, as do "Money" and "Easy Money" (and share similar placements in the album.) "On the Run" and "The Talking Drum", despite not sounding very similar and being on opposite sides of the album, are both relatively repetitive instrumentals that get cut off by a loud noise at the end. Other than that, you're right that the two albums are pretty different.

"Us and Them" sounds a lot like "I Talk to the Wind' from ITCOTCK, though.

Too much jerking off.
The good parts are really good. Too much unneccessary filler.

>*blocks your path*
>Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Unpopular opinion, but I agree.

>Syd is a terrible songwriter.

Wrong. Almost every Syd song is catchy and invites impromptu singalongs from listeners. See Emily Play, Arnold Layne, most of his Piper stuff. Those were hooks that stayed with you after the song was over. From their second album through Division Bell, how many catchy songs did they have -- five? Okay. Fine. Music doesn't HAVE to be *fun*, but it doesn't hurt when it is. Syd's stuff had that in abundance.

how many album have you listened to?

>PF without Syd is boring
Imagine having this taste

LIME AND LIMPID GREEN A SECOND SCENE

Attached: pinksoyd.png (644x800, 500K)

Three.

Are you a pleb? What exactly is a filler in DSOTM? It's the perfect embodiment of appropriate length.

This is going to be a cringe and a yikes for me dawg.

Came here to post this.

I'm not a contrarian and I love Pink Floyd, but I genuinely think this is the most overrated album of all time

not the guy you replied to but holy shit never realized any of that
