I’ve been getting noise complaints lately. Is a focusrite 2i4 and a guitar XLR cable all I need to record straight to my computer? I don’t know if I like the idea of taking the amp out of the equation
Mmmm, Ibanez is more mixed-bag than Fender. Generally I find Fender guys to be competent players that upgraded from Squiers or shit-tier cheap Ibanezes after playing for a few years.
Agree about Suhr, though (I've definitely met some Charvel players who are wannabe 80s shred guys and can only play sloppy sweep arpeggios). Suhr tends to be really selective about who they endorse, and anyone who cares about the kind of attention to detail that goes into driving up the price of Suhr guitars has probably been playing for quite some time.
Also Vigier.
Nathaniel Gray
Not him, but for the last couple of years, yeah.
Brody Smith
>the most expensive and sought after guitars in history >but last couple of years lol
takes a while to get used to. I think it excels at precise picking, works well for tremolo too. They are 1.0 so a little thicker than I'm used too. feels good for riffs not so much blues stuff.
Angel Diaz
If by “couple” you mean 40, you’re right. 70s LPs made by Greco, Burny, Ibanez, Memphis, Arai/Aria, and Tokai absolutely smoke Gibson product of the time and still remain the very best LPs from the era. It got so bad Gibson contracted with a big Japanese maker to make LPs under the Epiphone name just to get some of their own market share back.
I never learned a single song or lick. Start composing right now.
Eli Roberts
>says best players in the world play Gibson >posts pic of a dead guy as an example Couldn’t have made the point any better myself Bra-fucking-vo, user.
Alexander Wilson
I see. I'm debating between the 1.14 sharps or the 1.14 jazz III's, suppose I should just head to a store and try them out.
Ayden Cox
Pics are cheap. Buy a bunch and try them out
Brandon Scott
You think you'd be better off just doing scales/chord exercises and writing your own material rather than trying to learn other songs first? Why is that? I'm not disparaging you, I'm genuinely curious.
>SS frets >active pickups >locking tuners >guitar polish >locking nut >alternative tunings >more than 2 modulation pedals >loop pedal >picks not made of plastic >picks that aren’t the same size or shape as normal >tapping >baritone guitars >7 strings >8 strings >strap locks >specialty coated strings
I'll say this slowly. I'm not the guy that mentioned the cartoon. I'm the guy that said I didn't watch cartoons when you said that everyone here didn't. Maybe if I say it with some weird Japanese accent you'll understand?
Luke Murphy
Why are you in Reddit, faggot?

Look who needs attention now. Can’t let your daddy have all the fun huh?

At what price point does the quality/price start leveling out? American Original 50's Fender Strats sound nice but I also found MIJ 50's reissues for less than $1k online. Are you just paying for the "Made in USA" stamp or is there some weight to the premium price? I heard MIJs are on par with MIA Strats.

it's a working man's instrument and class won't buy you tone. that's why everyone moved on to digital production, where class will buy you a better producer which will buy you better tone. mankind is a funny thing. for how much it complains about how the world is not fair or too biased towards one type of person who "doesn't really deserve it all", it will stop at nothing to keep the world that way.
William Fisher
broke a string like a retard. is it difficult to put on a new string? keep in mind i'm retarded
Put it up your butt for that sweet retro sound you've been looking for
Famous guitarists who putt their strings up their butts: Jimi Hendrix James Hetfield Steve Vai Nigel Tufnel Jared Scallion Laura Cox
Brody Peterson
lighter wood sounds overall better this is the only 'tonewood' property that really affects sound
John Baker
>Floyd rose Take it somewhere
>Standard bridge type Ur fine and its very easy.
Connor Robinson
is it okay to change only the string I broke? or should i change them all for consistency?
Easton Murphy
It depends on the hardness/flexibility of the wood and certain frequencies will decay faster or slower if you suspend a string between two blocks of one hardwood or another
Thankfully we have the good sense to suspend our strings between pieces of metal so any hard, inflexible material will do for improving sustain and everything else is just personal taste because there's little room for the things the metal is screwed to to do anything
Tonewood is an accepted fact with acoustics because the wood makes most of the sound. With electrics, congrats on buying expensive wood and coating it in nitrocellulose paint. It sounds exactly like any other hardwood and the differences between mahogany and a solid chunk of oak out of your backyard are the same as the differences between two chunks of mahogany from two different trees.
It doesn't really matter unless all the others are clearly worn out and won't stay in tune
Christian Clark
thanks. hopefully i can figure it out with a youtube guide. im afraid ill lose all my progress if i stop practicing so i want that string back asap
Xavier Jackson
Get a guitar with locking tuners. It makes changing strings easy for retards.
When I turn Treble Boost up from 0 on my active pickup bass, I get static crackling when I am touching the strings AND I am NOT touching the jack plugged into the guitar. If I touch the jack it stops cracking. What could this mean?
Mason Cooper
It's the only good tone finish.
Jordan Turner

if the tab is in dadf#be tuning but it also says capo 1 at the top of the page, do I tune the guitar to dadf#be first and then put a capo on?
Henry Davis
yes don't use tabs btw
Ayden Diaz
thanks what do you mean by don't use tabs though?
Bentley Wood
you shouldn't use tabs, read sheet music
Lucas Miller
I'm new so sheet music is too hard for me plus the song in question only exists in a tab format
Henry Watson
This is retarded. Sheet music and guitar do not translate as well as sheet music and piano. Real men learn with their ears.
Michael Mitchell
don't listen to this jackass btw you don't really need sheet music if you play guitar that's not classical academic guitar, you're only going to harm your playing.
Samuel Johnson
There are very few cases in which a guitarist needs to be proficient at reading sheet music
If you're just a hobby guy or just in it for making your own music don't bother
Dominic Rodriguez
alright thanks guys
Leo Thomas
So many losers that can't read sheet music triggered :)) Don't listen to them. Sheet music is essential to become a musician. Instruments speak music and you need to learn that language. Not the number of the frets.
Lucas Kelly
You don't have to read sheet music to know theory, my man
Brayden Hernandez
Alright, string broke so its now been totally viable to start looking at a bridge/saddle replacement. Anyone have any ideas what kinda of bridge would fit best in it's place? about a 2x3 5/8s inchslot. P or Jazz bass replacements are readily available on amazon, but its almost half an inch to short, and a quarter inch to thin. I can't go any wider because its a fitted groove. And working with Luthite is fucky.
you don't HAVE to, it's good to learn music theory, and alot of the WHYs in music, but this is just a fedora tipping outlook don't listen to him
Archtop guitars are retardedly overpriced. I can get a nice upright bass with a carved top for 1000€ shipped made in eastern Europe. Or a fully carved cello for 600€. Meanwhile what kind of archtop guitar can you get for 600 bucks that has at least a carved top, good acoustic sound and is decently made? A purely acoustic archtop should be available for 400€ or so, add electronics with a floating pickup and maybe 500€-600€ max. Why are people paying these retarded prices?
Jack Evans
>get new guitar >decide to dig out my first amp and play on it >Rocktron V10 Velocity >sounds bretty good as a bedroom practice amp >google it >can find almost nothing other than used ones for sale I find more about Gorilla amps than i did about this thing. What's up with that?
What this guy said, for bass guitars too. I have a Fender and a Gibson as electric guitars, but my bass has always been a 600 dollar Yamaha. Nobody can tell it's not a Fender when I play out on the weekends or jam with others.
Yeah, $500-600 is where you get a guitar that's pretty much plays as well as it gets. You kids have no idea how lucky you are to grow up in an age where cheap guitars are actually good and not plywood monstrosities that sound and play like ass.
Ian Mitchell
Are you paraplegic? Miss a thumb? All fingers are thumbs? If not, change your fucking strings. Do all of them unless it was a completely new set.
Christian Roberts
i can already see this garbage hanging up in every paw shop in 10 years because all the white trailer trash who bought them had to sell them for meth money
Ian Lewis
Recommend me a lightweight 25.5" scale, mid price. I need something lighter than my Gibson block of mahogany for my back.
Asher Evans
and what if i refuse?
Brandon Morales
Then you'll burn in hell and so on.
Brandon Anderson
meh not enough incentive srry
Owen Miller
Well, I'll just have to tour the guitar centers again and see what shit they have in stock then. But at least I'll do so in the knowledge that at least one /gg/ poster burns in hell.
Jack Lee

Elijah Moore
Looks like shit in sunburst though (as does every guitar). Why not blue or tequila burst? Posting prototypes
lol no. What if you want to play with other people who aren't guitarists. They don't write tabs. If you can't read sheet music it makes life a lot harder. It's just easier to communicate or pick things up quickly.
Daniel Richardson
this one is pretty decent for a change, if you ask me
Adrian Gomez
Grounding issue. Also, treble is where all of the annoying noise collects, so boosting your treble also boosts the noise issues.
Matthew Allen
>lol no. What if you want to play with other people who aren't guitarists. They don't write tabs 90% of people in rock bands write tabs. what are you a jazzman or somethin
Gavin Kelly
>Sheet music and guitar do not translate as well as sheet music and piano >I mean it does you just have to try a bit harder. So it doesn’t translate as well. Do you try to put yourself in positions that make look dumb?

Of course. Firebird Zero is definitely one of their best designs ever. Absolutely iconic. Definitely up there with 59 LP gold tops

You're right it's unreasonable to expect people to put effort into a craft that requires hundreds of hours of practice to begin with.
Every single instrument has something that is harder for them than for everyone else. Those things can usually be overcome with some degree of effort.
Isaiah Turner
>rent free
David Bell
Imagine being so autistic you are convinced you need gear to be good
Eli Watson
Hey look, you put yourself in a other position that makes you look dumb. You called reading music a craft, what a fucking joke lmao.
Luis Rogers
yup, but who gives a fuck? Electric guitar in not an orchestral instrument, it's a guitar music instrument with its own subgenres, subculture and conventions.
Jayden Rodriguez
You're going to expose lots of insecurities here m8.
John Roberts
Have you ever played music with another person? Sometimes they write out charts with sheet music, because no one else uses tab. If you wanna play with other people who aren't guitarists then it's useful to be able to read. Genre is doesn't matter.
apparently telling people to practice something that could be useful triggers people
Lincoln Lewis
I said it doesn’t translate as well, which triggered you. And now you won’t respond to me, because I triggered you. I’m also the user that proposed a sheet music reading competition but I suspect like the other user you will run away too.
David Lewis
>Sometimes they write out charts with sheet music, jeez-louise, no one I know in local indie/rock/metal scenes gives a flying fuck about sheet music. and I'm from a big city.
Xavier Bennett
>apparently telling people to practice something that could be useful triggers people Yes, specially among scene musicians.
Leo Ward
Niggas that read sheet music still write in cursive lmao
Christopher Rivera
what scene? you're talking about scenes but you never mentioned what you play or with whom
Blake Nelson
currently diy scene, grew up in the rock and metal scene don't really have much options here
diy punks? and they write down their chords via sheet music?
Mason James
go back and tell me where that was implied m8
Alexander Powell
I think these are a tad too expensive for trailer junkies. We aren't talking about /gg/'s favorite budget RGs here
Lincoln Scott
DIY is a broad term, it can be mongolian throat singing tribute band or a hardcore punk scene
Elijah Ross
I hate how common it is for guitarists to be boastfully ignorant when it comes to music theory. Like the less they know makes their playing somehow more impressive
Adrian Carter
Fact: tabs are vastly superior to generic music notation when it comes to guitars.
Nathan Walker
Well it does. The less you know and the better you are just shows how much raw talent you actually have. You can’t practice having the X factor. Ever wonder why pretty people are famous and you arent?
No, I mean where did I imply the scene wrote their stuff down. Anyways, what I meant to say is that the DIY scene if full of people with lots of complexes, suggesting anything that might help them improve can be taken as a criticism. That's why I replied to that user saying that he was going to expose lots of insecurities. Which is pretty much what it's happening right now.
Logan Peterson
>the DIY scene What do you play?
Benjamin Moore
Guitar on a noise rock band.
Michael Butler
how many noise rock bands use sheet music?
Kevin Ortiz
So reading sheet music is for ugly people?
Jaxon Anderson
That's why all the best guitarists exclusively read tab right?
Angel Watson
I don't know, I'm not even sure why are you replying to my posts considering you aren't even reading them.
Ryan Bell
Classical musicians often look fucking wonky as frick so yes
Kevin Scott
the best guitarists write riffs and keep them in their head.
Juan Parker
What kind of improvement a useless skill is?
Jackson Watson
It's not useless just because you say so. But anyways, carry on. I'm gonna go back to shitpost about gear.
Jordan Perry
There is a bare minimum level of theory knowledge that comes with different genres. If you're bragging about not knowing any theory and you play only rock you just look like a dumbass
Brandon James
>It's not useless just because you say so I don't say so, in fact being able to read sheet music is quite easy, and indeed improves your musical understanding, but it has no practical significance in the world of e. guitar, at all.
Thomas Edwards
We’re talking about sheet music, dumbass, please try to keep up.
Charles Gray
Half of the people here are so triggered they don’t even know what the argument is.
Ian Morales
The topic was changed slighly, referenced it for you friendo (:

New thread
Nicholas Baker
Sheet music is piano tablature. it isn't a magical generic format designed by top intellectuals. It is a fairly direct representation of how notes are layed out on a piano. Note duplication and fingering efficiency concerns make it less than ideal for guitars tuned in fourths and a third. The way guitars are set up and played means they need their own format. They aren't like flutes, which can only play one note at a time, or violins, which are tuned in fifths, only have four strings, and can only play two notes at a time. It's useful for composing though.
>but they yooose eet in orchestras so that makes it smarter >yeer not a reel musician if you can't sight read There is a such thing as real music outside of fucking chamber music. It's more like the only instrument in the classical ensemble that plays a role that's anything like a guitar is the piano, which has an interface that resembles sheet music so much that sight reading is a naturally acquired skill for pianists. >but classical guitarists Those guys make things hard for themselves on purpose because early composers were too lazy to translate to tabs. You know, the format that's been in use for longer than grand staff notation.
