What went wrong?
What went wrong?
her whole discography is shit so I'm not sure much more could go wrong
Literally nothing. This album is not only her most musically complex, but it's her most lyrically dense as well.
Only pseuds with manufactured taste shit on Divers.
DUDE TIME IS AN ILLUSION LMAO
Nothing. You just don't have patience.
Based
Her least good album, but still excellent. Not a fan of “Time, As A Symptom” though
Only "Ys" is better, but "Divers" is almost as good and would probably serve as the best introduction to Joanna's music. The songs, the flow, the arrangements are all on point.
There'a lot more wrong with "Have One on Me" if you ask me. The trick of practically replicating Ys-kind of structure three times seems unnecessary and forced and has led to some bloated moments and very uneven results. Even if you judge it as 3 separate albums. "Divers" is far more focused, colourful, eventful and stronger on a song-to-song basis.
It's great though.
>The trick of practically replicating Ys-kind of structure
Elaborate on this, because it sounds very, very wrong.
This.
Though I prefer MEM precisely because it's simpler. But Divers is extraordinary.
It's extremely wrong. Have One on Me was explicitly streamlined, fewer polyrhythms, less baroque and grandiose.
I think just some mediocre songs (and a generally more straightforward songwriting process) and senselessly dense arrangements. Not a bad record l, though. There are a few pretty good cuts.
Her voice
I only really like her first two albums. Have One On Me was bloated as fuck, and this one is just eh. Her first one had the best songwriting, Ys was her best work overall. I guess my appreciation of her has sort of waned. Also I never crushed out on her like I did Beth Gibbons or Harriet Wheeler, so you can't say it's the fact that she's married to Andy Samberg.
Everything long gets criticized as "bloated." It's a facile criticism.
>Everything long gets criticized as "bloated."
Except that's not why I think it's bloated.
And you hate Only Skin? Wew, I think you're just a child.
>And you hate Only Skin?
Where did you get that, dummy?
Great opinion. Got a blog? I'll be sure to care.
You sound like you care.
