7 is above average what they deserve lower?
(((INDIE))) SÖYS EVERYWHERE BTFO
DAB WITH ME FELLAS
>This is far from Avey Tare at his most outgoing—it’s miles away from the boisterous “Chores,” say—but the melodies are more direct than they were onEucalyptus
huh? was chores not written and sung by panda?
This is a pretty embarrassing review and there's no way Cows on Hourglass Pond is worse than Eucalyptus
the fact that they gave Sleep Cycle, Buoys and Eucalyptus the same exact score is enough to say that they have no idea what they're doing anymore
yeah, should have been about 5 points lower
Nobody likes AnCo or indie anymore. Get over it.
This it’s a miracle that it got a 7 at least
this
anco has been exposed for like a decade now
when are you going to wake up
no wait, centipede hz is actually good! and sleep cycle was AOTY 2016! p-panda's still got it!
hopeless
chz was a good album ruined by shitty production
sleep cycle was indeed AOTY 2016
panda used up the last of his creative genius in 2009
Buoys is a really awful album
Came to say this. P4k is SHIT
I used to love AnCo, but they really don't age well. Must be a late teens thing, the older I get the less I go back to their music as opposed to other bands from the 2010s.
Doesn't help that they haven't put out anything decent in over 10 years.
>chz was a good album ruined by shitty production
truth, shit had good songwriting

Pitchfork is 100% responsible for the credibility and popularity of AnCo, but like...Strawberry Jam came out twelve years ago.
Their entire staff has probably turned over six times since then. Their entire editorial voice is different. The guys who literally came endlessly over Person Pitch are either managing the site or they've moved on.
Avey Tare is 40 next month. They're done being peak scenesters.
Just heard it. On first listen I liked it a bit less than Eucalyptus but a lot more than Buoys.
Why let it bother you? Why let critics dictate taste/credibility (or fuckwit people on this board for that matter)? I don't think they care about appealing to the masses, or turn the ears of reviewers anymore/ever.
P4K is the last tattered remnant of the indie scene as it has devolved over the last ten years.
They used to be all about interacting and covering different independent music scenes (specifically ones in Chicago) but now scenes are less geographical than ever and the internet is its own all-encompassing scene.
Pitchfork is taking wild stabs at trying to make these big, reflective write-ups but is making the mistake of trying to strip them of any real editorial voice. They have no fucking idea what's going on, because there has never been a more vacuous and timid time for both music writers and artists.
They are extremely over-invested in amateur rap music and they still waste their time covering the last vestiges of the indie scene they built their house with.
Maybe a little, but I'd argue their live shows are what really solidified their rise (like 04-06). That, and an increase in psychedelic trend.
I think it's a pretty great album. Favourite thing any AnCo member has produced in probably close to a decade; still has some frilly production choices and luscious textures, and the typically vague, dreamy lyricism you'd expect of an AnCo member, but none of it serves to obfuscate its focus on fairly straight-forward, often beautiful songwriting. Also the absence of yelping vocals is appreciated.
>the fact that they gave Sleep Cycle, Buoys and Eucalyptus the same exact score
How fucking embarrassing
At least Sleep Cycle is destined to be a cult record and Avey's recent solo work is liked by fans and I don't see that changing with time.
Buoys is terrible though and I think Panda probably needs to retire for a while until his kids can be okay on their own, him being tethered to Portugal and isolated form the rest of the group makes him actual creative dead weight at this point which I don't think anyone would predicted during the late 00s period where he was seen as the breakout star
a 7 from pitchfork is glowing praise for anything animal collective-related in 2019, who cares
I'm really surprised at this review too. A 3/10 at most.
This
>Eucalyptus was rated higher
absolutely based, they're right
