oh shit youre right
Bottoms up!
People who want to make the identity of Gen X, Millennials, and Zoomers more clear since they're often muddled.
Born in '99 and I grew up listening to rock nacional (a subgenre of rock here in Argentina. Think of it as britpop but more Stones' influenced), Guns n Roses, Queen, etc.
At about 12 I started getting into very basic metal, so Metallica, Pantera, Iron Maiden was my first live show ever, SOAD, Slipknot, the typical edgy kid stuff, but this was in 2011 so I was very out of touch with modern stuff.
And now at the age of 19 I mostly listen to Pink Floyd, Beatles, Kendrick Lamar, Kid Cudi, Arctic Monkeys, joji.
I think the diversity in taste is was defines this generation. Whilst generations past, at least in my country, would stay in their echo chamber, young people now are much more accepting of new ideas in music. When I was 14 I thought all rap was shit until I actually sat down, listened and paid attention to stuff like NWA or 2pac

Zoomie
Anything, because they don't really rely on old forms of media to find music.
The internet gives them anything they want.
Sure spotify might herd a few sheep to it's pen, but most people tend to just hear whatever is the most viral AND in conjunction with their taste.
Artists must be in hell trying to cater to such a chaotic mix of tastes.
So not much different from gen Y pre 1997?
Jan 2001 here
Not that different from me and I'm pre 95.
Yeah I have a few mates sorta into a mix of shoegaze and grunge.
I've also started to listen to metal/metalcore/hardcore more too, just because I wanted something less safe sound wise. Also early 90's EDM.

98 here. I listened to what my dad listened to and developed from there while also looking for other artists at random. Shit my dad listened to that I still like is stuff like Alan Parsons, Depeche Mode, Dire Straits, and Supertramp. From my mom I got Cranberries and that's pretty much it. I also got into some artists through Vidya, namely Manic Street Preachers and Passion Pit. Being a band kid helped me start listening to Classical and Jazz.

this. every one I've met just listens to trap and dance pop
From what I can tell, late millenials and zoomers are the biggest Le Wrong generation ever. They missed out on MTV and how pre-internet or at least how pre-web 2.0 made it so there was still cohesive subcultures in the mainstream. like mallgoth and emo and pop-punk and nu-metal and whatever but those kids/young adults were just too late to that party.
Not to say that they all daydream about being part of the Hot Topic days or anything, a lot of them are just into like classic dad rock because they really want to double down on how Le Wrong Generation they are.
Of course most of them are just into like Soundcloud rap and current EDM, or whatever shit they think is "based and red pilled"
case in point:
The same kind of person that would make family quilts 200 years ago.
