The first two Pop Group albums are great. Post Punk is a really broad genre though. I don't think many people would comparing Metal Box by PIL with Seventeen seconds by the Cure, for example.
The one that inspired them all.
All great choices
This is the true patricians pick
Stand aside. Leave post-punk to me.
This one
>I DAAAAAAARE YOU
>TO BE REAL
No competition
SHE DOESN'T THINK SO, BUT SHE'S DRESSED FOR THE H-BOMB
Damn. Post Punk is one kick ass genre.
based
DOOOOM SITS IN GLOOOOM IN HIS ROOOOOOOM
This is the final boss of post-punk.
Haven't listened to those, wrong day for RED to be down :(
The Cure one is the best. The Public Image one is the worst. The Fall is middle ground.
best postpunk record since Deathconsciousness passing through
You don't know what post-punk is.
agree with the ranking, but it's not to say PIL is bad, Seventeen Seconds is just unfairly good
you have a very narrow idea regarding what postpunk is
>not even the toughest in their discography
Best revival
I fucking adore these guys. The Demonstration is my album of the decade so far.

Protomartyr, Idles, and Parquet Courts fucking suck and I can barely even hear any post-punk in their music. They sound like a watered down clone of a clone of Interpol, who are already a watered down clone of Joy Division.
Those bands are several generations of copycats removed from true post-punk.
Mah’ nigga. Totally agree.
am I banned
Was this album post-punk, or something else?
I saw these guys live with Deafheaven. Didn't know anything about them beforehand but they were incredible live
I'm genuinely confused how you hear any of Joy Division's sound in any of those bands.
I don’t understand the comparison of Interpol with Joy Division.
Sound more like The Chameleons to me...
Lead bass + guitar playing accompanying melodies has only been done by Joy Division apparently
Nah,
Perverted by Language > 17 Seconds
Perverted by Language is a legitimate work of genius. Smith's best, most oblique lyrics ever combined with some truly evocative experimental compositions. The Cure were great but 17 Seconds doesn't have the grandeur or energy of their best work, and it has too much filler. It's good as a mood piece but it's hardly a substantial piece of art once you dig into it
Why are the chameleons so fucking underrated?
Easily one of the best post punk albums.
>Interpol sound more like The Chameleons
This comparison makes much more sense. I feel like people only make the JD comparison because Paul Banks and Ian Curtis are both baritone vocalists. Stylistically, the bands sound completely different.
This is my favorite from them.

Why does this get so much praise? Siouxsie & The Banshees are one of my favorite bands, but this album kinda sucks. It has some of my favorite Banshees songs on it, but the quality varies wildly from song to song and the tracklists seems to be random. None of them sound like they really belong on the same album. It's a bit of a mess.
All three of their albums are fantastic. Reminds me of Wire with a untouchable three album run and then done.
Does this count?
It's not post-punk.
I think its post-punk. I don't know why it isn't accepted in the popular post-punk canon.
holy shit this album rips
You were close, OP.
>Does this count?
It does to me. Good choice.
>It's not post-punk.
The music itself is not punk. The band was known, prior to this album, as a punk band. But this came AFTER that. The word "post" means "after." Hence, London Calling is "post punk."
Nothing in this thread even comes close to the first 3 Pere Ubu albums.
/thread
cringe
YOu were so close mate
not the best, but one of the better ones from this decade.
easy
What is the post punk? I'm always feeling confused about this genre.
I agree. As a huge Banshees fan, I was always a bit disappointed in this one. Besides some great stuff there's a lot of forgettable atmosphere and filler pieces on this album.
How about some honorable mentions?
The Wolfgang Press

Earworm as fuck but those vocals. Can’t get past them.
This was okay but it kind of blew my mind when I googled it and found out it was released by blank banshee of vaporwave
david's vocals rule, dude
No. No they don’t. He’s a fat fuck and it shows. Dreadful band.
Speaking of Pere Ubu.
there are some great answers in this thread but I don't think anything quite gets there
this one is very close
also nearby
but I think post punk peaks with the record pictured because nothing sounds like it except itself and it is inspired to a fault
the only knock against it is that it compiles previous eps, but that doesn't matter because it's a masterpiece
10/10 all time music

I like it but when I listen to it all I can think about is how much it sounds like Siouxsie & The Banshees. OCD I guess...
not post punk
and if you include this kind of stuff then I think the Homosexuals or Swell Maps easily win
what is it then
It's punk without testosterone.
see
oh whoops you mean what genre is it. whatever genre you call Homosexuals or Swell Maps. punk, art rock, something something. adjacent to post punk but different influences
Kek. Good answer. Pere Ubu to a T.
