NO an artist ISNT better just because it is obscure BUT knowing more artists than just the top 3 artists of any genre is useful for conversation. we've talked about Loveless for more than a decade, everything to be said has been said (even though, of course, newfags will just post "it clicked" or "more like this?")
Having people delve deeper into genres made people's taste more diverse and made conversation more interesting and made this place great for discovering music you wouldn't have heard of otherwise.
sharethreads were the greatest cure for newfags. when i first came to Yea Forums i just downloaded every single album on sharethreads because i didnt know what genres i'd like. it was a great start and i still use them today to discover out-of-the-way stuff.
THE POINT IS:
WHENEVER A NEWFAG TELLS YOU "LMAO LISTEN TO WHATEVER" YOU TELL HIM TO FUCK OFF.
"LISTEN TO WHATEVER" IS A CONVERSATION KILLER. PEOPLE NEED TO BE ENCOURAGED (ONE WAY OR ANOTHER) TO DIG DEEPER THAN WHATEVER ARTISTS THEIR SPOTIFY PLAYLIST RECOMMENDED THEM.
AND BRING BACK "WORLD MUSIC" THREADS :(
