Came back last week with a cover from Bathory's excellent "A Fine Day to Die" (1988), I'm finishing the vocals for verse 2 & 3 right now so be sure to check it out.
This is a vocal demo mostly, all the instrumentation is made by VST. Looking for feedback on the mix + mastering.

The rhodes in skymelt is so nice and the sounds that come in after it all feel like nice reflections of it. You got quite the talent for sound design.
very interesting concept, your vocal delivery fits the style quite well. It would be cool if some of the guitar bits had distortion and if the sorta trap rhythms were a little more complex.
This is great, ignore that guy's comment about the bass. It's the most important part of the track, the moments of clarity in between the bass hits are excellent.

Rec
Working on rerecording some of my stuff
Shit I'm doing differently for better quality:
Double tracking guitars
Using better mics
Paying to have it mixed better
Using wavs instead of mp3s
Trying to sing better (one song took 40 takes and I'm still not happy w it)
I'm imbred
Need to get these right before sending them to drummer/mixer so any way I can improve them would be appreciated.
Slow down and focus on writing. don't pay money to have your music "mixed". I appreciate the rec even though I've been kind of mean to you, but your effort still isn't as high as I think you think that it is. Tracking something 40 times is a pretty low amount in my recording process. but everyone is different. I think it shows on end products though. I think you need some inspiration from your life and not bands you like.

hi imbred. it sounds better now.
Hey thanks I do focus on writing though songwritings my number 1 priority I'm just Tryna get the production as good as I can to show the songs in their best light. Are you notmormon? I love your guitar playing and songwriting. As for the inspiration from bands I like, I'm too guitarded to do anything else other than what I'm doing so I'm just expressing myself the only way I know how. Thank you for the feedback
Tracking something more than 40 times is crazy good for you for putting in that amount of effort. Ur musics cool keep doing what ur doing
*cringe*
Thanks I love ur stuff, super well produced and atmospheric

alright uh
1. double tracking is good, keep doing that.
2. better mics are never bad, but just know that past a relatively low threshold, incremental gains in mic quality really don't matter. at least, they make an imperceptible difference in overall "song quality". i use not the greatest mics but still manage to get something good sounding. a _lot_ of it is in the mixing process/eqing.
3. absolutely stop paying someone to mix your stuff. especially (sorry) for where your music is right now. it's a waste of money (in my mind) and especially as an "indie" musician or whatever, gaining solid mixing/mastering skills is really important. also, and i could be wrong, but i don't really think the stems/takes are quite at the place yet where you want to be sending them out to an engineer.
4. what does this even mean. you mean you render the master out to lossless instead of lossy? or your stems/individual tracks used to be lossy? in either case i'm not really sure how you managed to do that. if your stems were lossy, then that might, might, audibly impact the "quality" of your renders. if you expect to hear a real difference between renders to wav vs mp3 v0/320, good luck.
5. singing. i'm sorry man, but your vocal takes are super, super duper, extremely cringe inducing. i mean it sounds like you have no sense of intonation. it also just sounds like you're screeching/trying really hard to reach some of the notes which might just be too far out your natural range to hit properly. also your articulation is all over the place -- not that that's a bad thing. there are a lot of great idiosyncratic vocalists who do cool characteristic things with their voice, but that's not you. the phrase at 1:02 on "friend" for example. jeez
6. the guitar definitely seems somewhat out of tune at some points. this is especially obvious when there's a guitar lead line over the rhythm guitar.
7. are you actually imbred

ereeeee
Thanks for this
I know I can't hit the notes in this song that's why the 40 takes. I was basically using a USB mic and exporting the whole unmixed thing as an MP3 before n sending it to a drummer now I'm sending individual wav files recorded on xlr mics to be mixed etc so maybe that'll help
I know my musics not the best in just Tryna do MY best
Thx for the detailed reply

pretty dirty and nice beat to it, the autotune sells it
Me
I really like this. How do you come up with how your vocal tones are going to work out? Do you listen and tweak ad nauseam or is the vision pretty solid once you start mixing them?
Thick and wonderful.
Splendid! Ever listen to phantomenk?
This is pretty solid. How many people in the group? Just you? I like the vox and lead lines on the guitar in particular. I know is emotional and sweet with this layer of grotesque sort of creepiness in some of the sort of jazzy chords. Really interesting. Looking forward to more.
Something about the intro on 'High after' is grating to me; but once the deeper softer synth comes in this track really took me to a higher plane. Close your eyes and lean back sort of vibe.
Not bad for a first track at all. Good snappy and even funny lines. I wanna hear you go hard instead of a whisper, the whisper works musically but I bet you can spit something fierce.
Slight and subtle but with a lot of little sweet melodies to break away from most boombap. I liked the track; but also you don't need to watermark at the beginning. It immediately rips me out of the track lol.
'Nother track dropped from album coming up in the next week or so.

Listened to Downtime. this is good man. Well mixed, there's a tendency for guys to put the kick way too loud in these threads but you've avoided that. Vox recorded well. Beat evolves well through the verses. Phaser's a bit deep for me though.

Wrote this in high school immediately before we broke up. It's better than your average garage rock band
This is good. I fuck with all the little glitchy embellishments, they add nice tension to the track.

Deleted my newest track because it wasn't good enough, I swear this shit is on a different level when you're high.
B-But I don't use autotune, lol. Do you have your music anywhere other than GoogleDrive? If not, definitely consider it. CRXCKHIGH is my favorite track. It's like a DeathGrips but with a more traditional hip-hop vocal rhythm, very sick and the lyrical content is dope too.
Thanks m8 :)
That's pretty sick mang love the experimental vocal chops.
