While I do think the band fell off pretty bad after Dirty (understandable) I'm not a Sonic Youth early career purist. Some great songs came after Dirty such as

nah if he starts sister he's missing EVOL which is one of their best

I'm kind of indifferent towards Murray Street, I couldn't tell you what a single song sounds like off of it.

I bought most of Sonic Youth's albums when I was a kid without looking up what they sounded like so I own Bad Moon Rising-A Thousand Leaves and really only listen to the ones that I listed in my top 5.

I used to like Washing Machine a lot but nowadays I have no interest going back to it.
