give me some guitar pieces that make me feel like I'm sitting in the grass looking at a frog pond or some traffic pass as yet another summer day carelessly drifts away give me some descriptive words or tags so that I can find similar pieces on my own
here's an example, Alice in Chain's 'Heaven Beside You'l, particularly the beginning before the vocals: youtube.com/watch?v=hmUH6MFolm4
samefag, I guess another way to describe what I'm looking for is somewhat bored, slow and careless feeling guitar pieces. but I do feel the country/backwoods aspect is important
It's the awful grain matching that makes me shudder.
Lincoln Roberts
the first song feels a little upbeat for my very specific current desire, but I'm very much enjoying this guitarists style and have saved it, thanks. I will go through it in it's entirety later, but if you could recommend the slowest or most bored sounding one, please do.
Any particular recommendations?
Owen Bell
My picking hand sucks. My picking is always feels stiff and I can't get any speed out of it. Doesn't matter what kind of pick I'm using. I must be holding it wrong, but I can't figure it out. Any guides to help me out?
Watch justinguitar.com to make sure you've got the basic technique right.
Then start on picking exercises with a RELAXED right hand. Use a metronome, start dead slow, and only increase the tempo when you're nailing the exercise every single time.
Practice every day. In a few months you'll be competent and in a few years you'll be good.
Do you own one of these or are you just gas'ing hard?
Thomas Sanchez
That one was already pretty slow, maybe this one. Same pace but a bit more depressing
$325 isn't a "common" guitar. It's bottom of the barrel.
Parker Collins
I have nothing to offer but common sense. Start practicing it more. Isolate what's difficult and zoom in on the mechanics of the movement. Find what parts of the mechanical movement are fucking you up. Practice those individual, isolated parts as much as you can.
If it's a sequence on a piece that's troubling you, practice that piece as much as you can, as fast as you can. If it's just in general, practice a on a set of specific examples until you git gud (difficult passages in songs, scales, etc).
you better be one of the best guitarist in the world if you own something like that. otherwise the money should've been spent on world class lessons.
a good guitar player sounds good on any equipment
Colton Gomez
Did you listen to (or are you familiar with) this video I initially offered in an effort to narrow down what I'm looking for? >youtube.com/watch?v=hmUH6MFolm4
Just curious, don't mean to be derogatory in the least as I've been enjoying Ackerman very much.
Sebastian Smith
next up on the list of guitar pieces that capture specific feels, anything that evokes something similar to this Boards of Canada piece in Campfire Headphase? youtu.be/iokfQ5Bym2Y?t=43
I think I'm going to start indexing my stuff into some sort of ,,feels" database

Why is that most rock guitarists rely so heavily on mixolydian?
Jaxon Jones
Two months with slacking
Jonathan Scott
While Dorian is technically the most neutral mode, Western music's emphasis on Ionian and general diregard of Locrian +/- Phrygian shift the center towards Mixolydian, as evidenced by the fact that unqualified chord shorthand is implicitly Mixolydian (e.g., "C7" is the Mixolydian tetrad, but you need to add more qualifiers to state a major seventh).
Jace Bennett
isn't every user over 30 with a guitar pretty much one of those guys?
Jonathan Davis
Not all of them are as big of a cunt as the guy with the long hair.
Liam Torres
he's just an overgrown metal baby. The other guy has made a few slimy youtube moves.

What should be the next price point for an upgrade to a $350 bass? Thinking 600-700, any ideas for or experience with specific models? Looking at Fender basses, and on top of being a weeb, I have an Ibanez now so I want to look at those too. I’m open to any suggestions, as I’ll be trying them in the store first. My amp is decent, a fender rumble 40, so I’d rather replace the bass first. Thanks for any help.
Henry Roberts
This .webm is the best girl with the second best guitar.
I've always hated the redundant switching on Mustangs. 9 different positions that only produce 4 different sounds.
Jason Long
>three saddle guitar This should be illegal. You can see them coming down the road at night. My advice is, when you see them, run them over. Just run them over.
Caleb Scott
>$8k for three saddles That's over $2.5k per saddle, fuckers.
tl;dr open to suggestions for upgrade from $350 bass
Adam Bell
What do you not like about your current bass? This is the most important thing to consider when thinking about purchasing a new bass.
Nicholas Brown
Alternately, if you like your current bass, then you should probably think of a new purchase in terms of something different that complements it well.
Colton Bailey
There are a couple of bass players, but most of them are more interested in talking about playing than about gear, so we ostracised them.
Blake Bell
What bass do you have?
Christian Williams
are you the same guy who called me autistic in the last thread? how is this autistic you blithering retard
Austin Perez
Alright niggers, are the new Supro guitars good or trash?
Kayden Bennett
Well it’s just an entry level bass, SR300E, and you can sort of feel the cheapness. It’s part technique also, as I’m not the best, but for instance it has a bit more fret buzz than I’d like sometimes. The sound isn’t as deep/rich as I’d like, and I’ve tried using other strings and it just sounds too “metallic”... another big pet peeve is actually just the placement for the cable. It’s like dug into the guitar and it’s annoying to get out, barely any grip since it’s so deep and it’s actually chipped some of the paint near that pit because it’s so tight. Other guitars I’ve looked at have the jack on the surface so it’s easy to remove and it won’t chip it at all.
Jeremiah Reyes
What do you think about the neck profile, pickups and electronics?
Jordan Bell
Hey sorry I didn’t see this but SR300E, I know color doesn’t matter but it’s the planet blue. Looks a bit cheesy but I got a good price on it...
Forgot to mention the look of the guitar itself too.. don’t hate it but as I said it’s just a bit cheesy
Asher Cox
doing my first guitar project
got everything put together, but theres a lot of noise when i plug in
the thing is, when i put my hand on the input jack the noise goes away
the cavities are foiled and everything, is this likely a problem with my grounding connections?
Christian Thomas
>is this likely a problem with my grounding connections?
Yes. When you touch the jack you ground the guitar. If grounding the guitar with your hand improves the buzz then it means the guitar isn't properly grounded already.
Lucas Cox
Yes, it's a grounding problem
Leo Davis
I don’t know enough about them in general to know the electronics in and out like that, or about the profile etc. As I mentioned it’s sort of metallic sounding, it doesn’t have as rich of a sound as I’d like, and I’m not sure if it’s the pickups or the rest of it. I’ve only tried a fender precision bass in person recently and it felt great and sounded much better but I couldn’t pick out the specifics.
Kevin Johnson
I'm not averse to gutting my guitars, which is the best way to test pickups (i.e., keeping everything the same but changing the pickups).
I don't recommend doing that, though. You should go to a shop and try some basses with similar construction but different pickups to figure out what kind you prefer. It'll also give you an opportunity to try out some different neck profiles, scale lengths, etc.
DON'T spend good money on gear unless you actually know what you want.
Ryan Harris
and it could potentially be a problem with any of the grounding wires inside the guitar, not just the one thats connected to the input jack?
owning an amp these days is a cry of desperation. Its like a writer buying a typewriter to be a "serious" writer. You can do everything just fine with software.
Elijah Jones
Thank you, yeah I plan on trying some I just wasn’t sure if there were any that I should try to find first. I’m partial to fender and Ibanez so I was a bit worried I might be missing out on some other brands to try, but hey they’re big for a reason right?
>DON'T spend good money on gear unless you actually know what you want.
Tru but also I don’t know exactly what I want, but I’m coming up on a raise so I want to reward myself. Like I said I’m not that great but even I have ears and I can tell the sound on this one isn’t the best, even with someone better than me plays it Thank you for for all the insight
Evan Russell
You can fuck with pocket pussies too, but a real girl is much better.
Colton Sullivan
I wish roman would come back so we could see some good bait again.
Michael Reyes
I've got a bass after being into guitar, and I must say, bass is the torture porn of instruments. The distance between frets is huge, the strings are so fucking thick and tension is so high I get tired after a minute of playing it. What the actual fuck? Playing on guitar feels like playing AIR, strings are so soft and everything is so easy.
Xavier Allen
A human is an ultra-complex nonlinear biological organism. An amp is a very simple piece of analog technology.

How are my fellow bass players doing? Ive been listening to dub to get dem Jah Wobble loop bass gains
What you were saying basically is, there were natural vaginas that grew on trees, and now there are fake plastic vaginas you can buy, and the same happened with amps. In other words, a really, really bad comparison.
Nicholas Evans
you can just put a honeydew in the microwave
Wyatt Lewis
No. What I'm saying is that just because they're new, doesn't make the old obsolete.
Ian Nguyen
I welcome a new anime thread. It really boosts my motivation to practice. Thanks OP
>You can fuck with pocket pussies too, but a real girl is much better. the difference is, amps were as simple as pocket pussies from the very beginning.
Whats the cheapest interface I can get away with using for recording guitar and using virtual pedals/effects in Logic Pro X? I'm using a Squier tele. Scarlett solo v. 2i2 v something else?
the only right answer really, great interface for the price. exactly like the scarlett 2i2 except cheaper.

>Hey user! let's start a band! What music would you guys play?
Do I need active pickups to slap or is that a meme? Learning obviously.. I was looking at Fender Jazz bass and realized they're passive, and I heard you should get active if you want to slap. I'm sure once you're a god it doesn't matter but I'm gettin' there you know?
Aaron Martinez
slap was invented on passive pickups
that's as dumb as "you need active pickups for metal. source: this generic djent band, and some well known guy who just got sick of noise coming through his passives"

from: has no idea about neural operations and how neural reductionist approach became obsolete with visual cortex experiments beginning in the 50s that stumbled upon plausible neural nonlinearity.
I believe latency is usually caused by user's idiocy. Also, quit relying on consumer-tier sound system backends. >muh amps, I'll need custom virgin tears alloys for my 3000$ circuits, otherwise it's Chinese fake shit >let's try digital, just plug my guitar into PC and use consumer-tier applications on Windows without preparation, wtf, why there's such latency bawwww digital tech bawww why are you so hard bawww where's my 1920's radio technology

Daniel Lewis
>get a load of my $2000 setup it cost me 0$, actually, moreover PC hardware is not strictly for guitar, because it works for everything - you buy a PC anyway, unless you're some ultra-poor smartphone-only type. >i can practice with optimal sound quality without my mom yelling at me What's your thought here? >could perform live with it You also can perform live with digital gear, even with a generic laptop, I've seen some professionals already going full digital, wise guys.
Evan Green
>PC hardware is not strictly for guitar Yes, it's also for vidya gaymes. And audio production but this is Yea Forums. So it's for vidya gaymes. Maybe audiophool nonsense.

Gavin Moore
Why are you obsessed with family members? You don't have a personal computer in any form?
Thomas Ross
remember to thank your mother for your low latency audio gear son
Landon Williams
While this is very entertaining, I am genuinely worried that these Anons live with their parents, who they rely on to buy all their gear.
Carter Morgan
Nope, but a compressor will make a big difference
William Torres
I doubt I'm your "son", son, and this is not how digital "gear" operates, what smarter people do instead is, write and/or edit drivers, system settings and scripts themselves. But sorry, I forgot that you're a common user, i.e. another pitiable victim of today's (mis-)education and can't accomplish anything on you own without corporate nanny's help. What can I say, enjoy your 20's technology, you truly deserve it as long as you're stuck in 1920's.
Leo Walker
Watch out we got a linux kernel developer here
Robert Cox
Power user operations are much easier than people were lead to believe en masse. In fact you should perform them regularly and it should be obligatory if you don't want to have a piece of shit system on your computer. ah by the way I never liked Linux and can't stand Linux devs.

The CIJ is better (sounds better, better fretwork), but it came with worse pickups due to marketing, pricepoint, etc. Easily fixable.
Camden Turner
Real men use CIC/MIC Only manlets use anything else
Jace Sanchez
Does anyone know why my strings keep breaking? I have them in for maybe a week Max and then suddenly one of them starts to like unravel at the bridge and go all loose, I dont wanna waste money on replacing it when it could just be an issue with my bridge.
William Peterson
But China is a nation of manlets.
Post a photo of your bridge and what strings you're using.
That's an impressively awful camera, well done. There's nothing wrong with that bridge design, be less aggressive with your technique and use better quality strings.
If you really can't face change either of those, you could get GraphTech String Saver saddles, but I think that's overkill, and will change your tone.
i need recommendation to what should i learn first about electric guitar thing (i just bought cheap bootleg electric guitar to learn) i can play some pop song on acoustic guitar which is just simple chords

No more government subsidies for active basses!

am i cucking myself having that on my instagram /gg/
Still waiting for it to arrive, just curious to see how you guys feel about the lovepedal remakes as opposed to the originals. I run an es355 through a vox and wanted a mild drive pedal to push the humbuckers a bit, from the demos I've heard it sounds super creamy.
Guys I have an SG. I have strung it regular slinkys because super slinky sound gay beyond all belief on it, but my pussy little hands are getting very tired trying bend/virbrato etc etc. Sometimes my hand is so fatigued that when I go to bend a note the string slips right out from under my fingers ffs.
>I always use three fingers for full step bends
Joseph Robinson
or what kind of strings would /gg/ recommend for tuning down a half step on an SG? I havent been i might just give it a try when i get home and see how it sounds.
Christian Nguyen
"Regular slink" and "super slinky" are just marketing bullshit. What gauge strings are you using and what tuning are you using?
>has friend who's a somehwat accomplished jazz pianist (he plays gigs for money) >I start practicing walking bass lines >tell him about it >he tells me "oh that's really advanced stuff" >"is it?" >"I mean yeah, the people I've seen doing it anyway" >go on /gg/ to ask people if that's true, because I didn't get that impression >someone replies "No. Eat shit and die"
Well good day to you too, Yea Forums.
Nicholas Russell
If you can't play walking bass maybe you need to re onside your options and start playing the laptop
James Butler
I have a Marshall DSL 40C but just out into a flat. I can't use it any more because of neighbours and it sounds shit at low volumes. How the heck can I get good tones at low volumes? This isn't something I've ever had to look into. I was contemplating selling my DSL and getting a Pod or something.
Chase Hill
Like I said, I don't think it's all that hard.
Blake Phillips
No. Eat shit and die
Elijah Green
Soulless as fuck. I hate that Tom Quayle guy.

Hunter Butler
Hey /gg/ does your ‘amp’ also play fortnite? Get wrecked faggots
Kevin Allen
He's a really intelligent guy - more so than most virtuoso-level guitarists that I've seen interviewed - but for some reason, he also plays soulless wankery exclusively.
Juan Gutierrez
Yes. Eat jello and have a nice sunday
Jaxon Stewart
No. Eat shit and die
Nolan Cooper
Practice more
Nicholas Phillips
He sounds the exact same through every amp, its funny
Liam Foster
I like how guitar is the only instrument that gets riddled with this 'soul' meme. Its so fucking subjective. I don't like it either, but calling it soulless just because you don't find it to be is retarded.
Get a tiny terror or a vox night train. Low wattage 7-15v tube amps that still sound good even when played quietly. it won’t be “that” Marshall sound but they still sound great

>No better dirt box out there There's where you're wrong, kiddo
So after 10+ years of not playing much, I started looking around to see what was new in terms of guitar amps etc.
I bought a Line 6 Vetta II in like 2005 which at the time had some advanced features.
I'm confused because it seems like little to no innovation has occurred since then.
Are most people using computers for digital processing now? Like amp emulation and effects software?
What I was expecting to see in 2019 at the high end of solid-state amps was way more options than something like Vetta II, far improved interface with touchscreen controls, bluetooth connectivity with companion mobile app that allows you to edit, save, download, share effects online etc.
Jayden Collins
big muff or bust
Owen Morgan
>most people using computers yes. There was literally half a thread of sperging about this if you scroll up a bit
Want to get into bass, whats the cheapest i can get without getting a shit bass and amp, i was looking into getting one of these dan electros. I want to play more post-punky stuff like Have A Nice Life and Talking Heads. I play mostly guitar so idk where to start. Thanks.
Is still playing 500 year old sounds the best we can do?
Matthew Ward
makes me miss roman desu
Ethan Myers
Squier bass and a Fender Rumble Look for used ones
Luis Adams
Not bad, I'd probably have a clean boost in your chain. I'd go for a Keeley Katana or an Xotic EP that way you can boost the whole signal w/o adding any extra distortion. Also I'm personally not a big fan of the Catalinbread DLS.. much prefer the Fulltone OCD. As for the compressor, I consider the BB Preamp to be a god tier compressor/OD pedal.. especially the Comp model.. but Keeley is good too. I just really like how my BB sounds stacked with the OCD, really 'warm' and responsive drive tone.
Jace Davis
All we have are low effort copy cats now.
Jonathan Ross
I need that Mio bass driver...

Any good chord shapes for people with stronk pinkies? I recently discovered that I can easily fret shapes with my pinky on the low e, but I only know like 2 and I wanna ride this wave and flex on spanlets
what are you talking about? what does this tab have to do with my amp for my six string electric?
Liam Cooper
Have you ever noticed how "includes" does not mean the same thing as "is the same as"?
Henry Martinez
BB Preamp desu. I was able to nail 99% of the J-rock tones I wanted with it, including K-ON!. If you buy one, go for the 'Comp' version as its like a 3-in-1 pedal.
It stacks amazing with an OCD, which is what a lot of Jap bands use. K-ON! was largely recorded on a Bluesbreaker amp, which BB steals a lot from. If you need extra drive, stacking the OCD makes it even better.
Wildwood, Reverb.com, Guitar Center, local shops, etc. Whichever has a good deal on a guitar I want. Or sometimes I walk into a shop and play a guitar that blows me away.
Grayson Cooper
.73 or fuck off
Daniel Gutierrez
There's a family-owned music store in town that I try to support whenever I can, but I also go to the pawn shop (we have a good one). I'll do a big box music store for financing sometimes.
Thats probably the regular version, which is still good if you're just after the OD part. I like the comp one since you can use it as a compressor as well but its usually more expensive, I got mine for $90 or so.
Logan Jones
just learn classical guitar fingerstyle is a big meme unless you're a good singer
Mason Hill
What do you do when you have too many guitars? I have 5 and that seems excessive, but two were gifts and I never use them, but I don't want to get rid of them. I only really use the other three, as they all have their own tunings
I have 8, but one is a baritone and two are basses. If you have a guitar you never play, you can sell it if you need money. Otherwise, just keep it in its case and bring it out every year or so and remember why you didn't sell it. It's like getting a brand new guitar for free.
Brayden Howard
>just learn classical I've been pilfering flamenco techniques to bastardize with my hick picking. it's been going well so far
Isaiah Ward
Just learn some of the 25 Carcassi etudes if you have a nylon string guitar. It's a good start for classical guitar if you already have some guitar experience. Even if you don't care about classical they can help your technique immensely.
Justin Fisher
>letting your disgusting dog get its slobber and fur and fleas all over your guitar Degenerate dog-owner.
I might, how spicy are the voicings? I tend to avoid classical because I'm addicted to jazz harmony
Anthony Turner
okay, r/guitar, I was just thinking about something today. the average person farts 13-21 times a day.
a pink floyd concert is typically 1.5-2 hours.
there's not a scenario in which david gilmour is not farting at least once in concert. he could be playing comfortably numb and, if there's a kaka lodged up his butt, when he farts, the air moves past it and smells like david gilmour kaka.
something to keep in mind when playing his tunes!
Liam Gutierrez
If your dog has fleas you should wash ad treat them more. Also, I'd pick my pup (or anyone's really) over my shitty squier any day. It's not like she's on the jag
Nothing really spicy in there, it's pretty straightforward romantic classical music. The 25 etudes are generally recommended for starters because they aren't overly difficult and they cover most techniques. Villa-Lobos has some spicy voicings but his etudes are assrape.
Jacob Powell
I noticed this too.
Zachary White
>Villa-Lobos has some spicy voicings but his etudes are assrape Ok, now I'm VERY intrigued. Who is this Villa-Lobos guy? I'm a huge masochist
If you like Catalinbread- check out their Belle Epoch delay pedal. It simulates an Echoplex tape delay pretty well, giving you Page and Gilmour type tones
Michael Bell
>tl;dr: how do I, a former guitar intermediate/hobby guitarist start training my way to playing Mastodon songs?
probably the most retarded question you guys have had, but here goes: I played alot of guitar when I was a teen, I'm older now, but want to get back into it. I used to play Guns N Roses pretty good, take from that whatever you want about my "skill level", I'd say I was 3,5/10 if 1 is a total newbie and 10 is "Japanese teen with facemask playing vidya themes". How do I start at it again? My music taste has changed, I listen mostly to Mastodon nowadays and would love to be able to one day shred like Brent instead of LMAO Slash.
I don't want to take classes if possible, I guess what I'm really asking for is if you guys know a set of songs that progressively gets harder and more technical until I reach my desired skills? >picture VERY related to this post
Well since Mastodon is just Alice In Chains these days, just start with that. Get an Orange amp too for that Mastodon sound
Asher Campbell

It is you! We missed you so much! Never leave us again ok?
I should've specified I mostly prefer Mastodons old vibe. Crystal Skull (for the vocals) and Sleeping Giant (for the intro guitar) are the two songs I hold dearest. Although Precious Stones is fucking lit aswell. >not to forget Cold Dark Place which helped me NOT commit suicide recently >tfw you'll never be as ripped as Froosh!

Figure out what you like in store. Then go on reverb/ebay/craigslist and track down a used one. Don't pay full new price for a new mexi Fender. There are always lots of used ones in good shape for 30%+ discount over new.
Also, try out a Yamaha BB 400 series. Those are my favorite mid-range bass.

I memed myself into buying a pricey Jazzmaster. When I leave it on the bridge pickup, I'm getting a ton of feedback. Is it defective? Is this normal for JM's? Should I just buy a hum canceler instead of returning? Please respond.
Oliver Brown
indeed, it also includes generating a musical tone, i.e. an extra-linguistic act.
Nathaniel Carter
That's not normal at all. Sounds like a faulty pickup. Also please post your Jazzmaster. Here's mine.
That's my guess, I mean I've usually if a pickup is feeding back without a ton of gain it's either a full hollow, unpotted humbuckers, or a bad pickup. Never heard of a Jazzmaster feeding back like that. Talk to the shop you bought it from or the manufacturer.
Nicholas Davis
Hybrid approach that i usually take. Imma still use my amps for guitars mic'ed. What should i install? Im running it through my 4k smart tv using a dvi to hdmi cable and have it Bluetooth connected to my zombie joyo head so my sound is playing through a 4x12? Does computer play through a 4x12?
