But when we say ambient , normally we mean the sounds around us natural to that environment. When I listen to what is called ambient music, it may as well be classical, you could just say instrumental music without much percussion. I think so.

No, because instrumental hip-hop or drum n bass aren't ambient simply because they are instumental. Yes, it may have a traditional instrument but the modern use often refers to synth-based music that is not limited to new age or film music. Even Boards of Canada by today's definition are downtempo, not ambient yet they may have a few strictly ambient tracks. All depends who you ask

Usually I find ambient pretty frustrating mostly because of the lack of any structure really.
Not that it discredits any ambient but just why I don't like it

It's good but the barrier of entry is basically non-existent. Too much lazy garbage floating around on bandcamp and even on actual labels. Even a monkey could do it if you sat him in front of a modular and strymon bigsky after teaching him how to plug in cables.

Ambient's entry level isn't tended to strictly enough.

ambient needs to carve out some subgenres then because to say a track of pure beatless and nigh-structureless ambience is the same genre as a jazzy downtempo orchestral electronic track makes the designation worthless and reductive

Ambient can have structure, it just depends on who you're listening to, I guess

It's not a bad genre, but bad ambient music is really easy to make.

what would you define as a bad ambient artist, user? I only listen to the classics/entry level stuff. I found Moby's Long Ambients 1 to be underwhelming/boring, lacking in texture. Other than that, I haven't encountered much I'd call "bad"

Most is good for ambiance.
Some is good music.

It can be great when done well but it's really easy to make so 99% of ambient artists are talentless hacks
