Having an understanding of the artists background can often add depth to their work, but i can't imagine forcing myself to stop liking a song just because the artist was found out to be a kid diddler or something.

It's contextual obviously, if it's about giving that particular artist a big grant to produce art, but you know they're going to spend it building pipe bombs then you don't separate it. If it's about me enjoying a piece of music on youtube then obviously I separate it to the degree that I can consciously (for example if I hated someone IRL and they made some art I'd probably be unconsciously bias as fuck). If it's about purely consuming that artist's art, but in doing so (e.g. buying a vinyl) you support that artist's platform to be an absolute shithead, then it's variable and really can only be decided on a case by case basis. In reality though I can't be fucked to look up or care about who created most of the art I consume, nigga I got shit to do.
