Obviously to look cool. I fucking adore Bathory. I love them WAY more than I like Venom, but lets be real. The first Bathory album is a total knock-off of Venom's "Black Metal," right down to the cover art and some of the same song titles. He lied to look cool. He denied that he was a copy cat because he thought it was the best move for his career.

Venom suck and he was probably embarrassed about liking them at one point

Come on, dude. They're not coincidences. It would be like a band called Sunbather releasing a pink album with a song called "Vertigo" and a song called "Dream House" and then claiming that they weren't inspired by Deafheaven in any way.
