I'm not too worried about the pickups (I'll wind my own), more about the general build. It's at the same price point as Squier. The teles I've seen in person had pretty beefy necks.
Juan Garcia
They're decent
Cameron Garcia
it's my first week learning guitar and it's really fun, my fingers don't really hurt at all though so I guess that's why. How do I ensure I make it from this point onwards? I want to make my own music but things like music theory look like alien language to me
Looking fit mate. No homo. This is proof you can play a short scale guitar without being onions. That’s a really gritty tone for such a lil guitar. What amp?
Luke Carter
10w Vox Combo amp Gain: Max Bass: 12 o'clock Treble: 9 o'clock This was played using clean, but if you wanna get really gnarly feedback, engage the built in overdrive button.
Zachary Wright
That Les Paul looks like it has fetal alcohol syndrome.
Liam Cruz
so just a regular les paul then?
Josiah Robinson
It's probably a recent Les Paul.
Brody Robinson
Imagine buying a Gibson after the year 2008
LUL
Jason Cruz
When I woke up this morning, it occurred to be how much I hate Gibsonfags.
I've heard this pedal specifically has issues with volume drops. Do people just not know how boosters work? Is there a noticeable increase in overall volume when you have it turned all the way up?
Anthony Taylor
It's not a volume boost, it's a treble boost.
Benjamin Nguyen
Yeah so they like take the treble and like boost it.
Now, if you want to know why they’re secretly good, they can be used to boost your signal if its been muddied by a lot of crap in the signal chain like bad pedals.
For example, the old wh10 wah wasn’t bypassed at all so it would completely suck the high end of your guitar signal when you weren’t using it. So a treble booster like this would essentially correct that fault if you put it later in that chain.
And just to let you know, the best treble booster is the boss ce-1 chorus pedal from the 80s
So yeah buy one of these if you want to sound like john frusciante.
but the description on the EHX website says it can be used to push an amp in to overdrive, which would imply there's an overall boost in volume as well as in the higher frequencies
I just want to know if I can put it in front of a distortion pedal to get even more distortion out of it
Oliver Peterson
no
Elijah Foster
Oh god kys
Angel Bennett
is it worth it to buy a kit guitar to save up some money or should i get a pre made fender squier or something like that
Elijah White
Do you know how to put a guitar together?
James Howard
you wont really be saving that much money, just pick up one of the used nicer squiers for $200
Jose Reyes
I’ve been thinking about getting a boss katana but the guy at the guitar store says I need a tube amp. What do you think?
Oliver Clark
Katanas are fine
Leo Robinson
He wants you to spend more money
Wyatt Brown
Is that necessarily bad though?
Cameron Bell
No. But theres a faggot that will tell you to save money and get digital and then will tell you in the next sentence to get an overpriced les paul
Zachary Long
Well the guy made it sound like the amp is what makes me sound good and the guitar makes you look cool.
Jack James
Katanas are good for someone that hasn't found their sound. There's so much to play around with and so many patches you can get that you can figure out what you want and need, and don't need. They also sound great and don't have to upgrade if you don't want too.
why is your pick making so much noise when hitting it against the strings ?
Jose Smith
I wouldnt worry about any of that until you have some experience under your belt. Also hybrid tube amps are great and getting cheaper. Also look at the joyo bantamp line.
You dont have to remove it, just sand it to scuff it up
Blake Thompson
i tried this on one of my cheap guitars to remove the glossy finnish, and it just fucked it up, it was as if it was covered in a white half transparent thing, and i couldn't get it off
Isaiah Martinez
No shit. That's called scuffing it up. You're going to paint over that.
Dylan Nguyen
its logo is too low on front panel, it looks a bit JUSTed
Logan Young
but what if i want to keep the wood grain and make it sunburn like ?
Anthony White
shut up you stupid faggot
Christian Allen
Then you have to strip it. But we're talking about painting it pink.
Robert Thompson
Google how to shut up stupid faggots and maybe you’ll learn how
Austin Clark
single coil pickups are a meme
Hunter Fisher
o, i wasn't the same guy, just hoped in :D but thanks, i didn't know these terms
Sebastian Nguyen
I'm thinking about scooping a cheap nylon string guitar to convert into a fretless, any of you anons have experience with this?
what about a nice comfy warm and deep sound and not something that is so piercing
Camden Moore
The high frequencies get boosted and can go into distortion, yes. But only the high frequencies. The lows remain unaffected.
Relax. Strats work ok for that stuff too. You have no idea just how much metal has been tracked with a Strat.
Zachary Russell
I'm practicing my bassline alt-picking with some Megadeth tracks, so not too bad.
Jaxson Parker
Sounds like you don’t know how to use your amp
Ethan Rogers
this. it's very, very easy to get a warm tone out of any guitar
Chase Roberts
How do I start getting into digital? I have no idea how do those things work, what should I buy?
Luis Green
how?? also how do you remove hum?
Andrew Flores
>what should I buy? some grey matter
Xavier Nelson
Find a daw you like, and an audio interface/microphone/other hardware goodies depending on what you want to do. You can honestly be as barebones or as ridiculously crazy as you want. You can even just use a laptop mic if you're a poorfag, but the sound quality will suck, obviously
>How do I start getting into digital? kemper, axe fx, line 6 helix
Colton Lopez
Just bought a shitplank backup guitar that has a satin neck finish that feels kinda plasticky. Would lightly sanding it help make it feel better? And would I need to apply a finish after sanding?
Because I don't like the current finish, but could remove it and replace it with a better finish. Not sure if I would need to or not though which is what I'm asking
Xavier Morales
I'd say give the sanded neck a try before you refinish it. you might prefer it
Daniel Gonzalez
yeah thought so thanks
Jordan Watson
Just install a bridge humbucker.
Ian Phillips
Can't decide if I should just practice my root and fifths today or actually come up with something creative on my guitar
Luis Williams
What if I want something for gigging? Can digital handle that?
Jose Rodriguez
Probs pretty much all electronic artists use digital for gigging
Owen Wright
everything i posted can be used for gigging. you need to buy an FRFR speaker and a power amp though
Anthony Green
first of all, get an audio card if you don't already have one, preferably a usb audio interface with instrument inputs second, get a free digital audio workstation like reaper (free unlimited trial), tracktion, or ardour then, get some free amp sims, there are truly amazing ones, like Ignite - vst4free.com/free_vst.php?plugin=Emissary&id=2093 or SoftAmp PSA - vst4free.com/free_vst.php?plugin=SoftAmp_PSA&id=2568 or many others download, set up in your digital audio workstation, plug your guitar in, and play
Ethan Fisher
>finally learned the fretboard enough to improvise a solo in a few different keys >often feel like i'm just playing random notes, sometimes i feel like it doesn't sound interesting
what do? do i need to learn arpeggios to base my playing on?
also, how do i approach improvising in c major differently from improvising in a minor? it's the same notes, but i know there's something different i should be doing for each.
Charles Davis
>I feel like it doesn't sound interesting learn how to utilize both consonance and dissonance. you don't have to go full jazz theory on it, but if you're only playing "nice" notes (e.g. only major chord tones) it's gonna get pretty stale pretty fast
Jace Gonzalez
Listen to the slow joe satriani melodic phrasing. Hia solos are thtabjust sped up 100x
Carson Sullivan
>if you're only playing "nice" notes (e.g. only major chord tones) it's gonna get pretty stale pretty fast
i disagree... how many guitar solos are great AND stay within the notes of the key? a whole lot.
but sometimes i step out by (for example) quickly hammering onto a note that's "in" from a note that's "out", like so fast that you only barely hear it but it sounds nice and jazzy
Gavin Reed
If you want to apply anything after sanding the existing finish off, use super thin coats of tung oil. Tung oil will create its own finish that is super fast.
Brody Perez
Niggaz are pretending they havent heard freebird solo. So.simple yet so great.
Aaron Mitchell
just because I like listening to something, that doesn't mean I like playing it. I personally get bored when I don't use spicy notes in my playing, but I don't require them to enjoy listening to a piece of music.
how so? not saying you're wrong, just genuinely asking
Oliver Hughes
apart from the whole, achieving previously unheard of levels of wank thing, his need to slap his postmodernist minimalist design philosophy on fucking everything coupled with his tendency to make everything as fusion-y as humanly possible gets a little old. then again I've been following him for nearly a decade now and as we all know, familiarity breeds contempt
William Smith
So, basically you're saying that he's ascended so far up his own asshole at this point that he's created a rectal singularity event?
Jose Johnson
That is correct, yes.
Ryder Clark
To be fair, that is the accepted final form of any fusion player.
Easton Sullivan
this is true
Kayden Rivera
Cool sounding bass track for beginners?
Jack Rivera
Have you tried the one with the root notes?
Adrian Collins
Play that funky music
Brayden Nelson
Marshall logos from vintage marshalls will be in different places because a the glue will not hold for 50+ years

I want you back Soul To Squeeze
Owen Foster
You're so boring >yeah but haha bass is just boring root notes!! You (and bass) are so boring
Nicholas Morales
I don't play bass, user.
Leo Lewis
>bass is boring not true. bass just has a level of nuance that is simply beyond the capabilities of the average bass (and guitar) player.
Carson Gray
Exactly I only said that as an >inb4 to shut him down. I don't think bass is boring
Tyler Thompson
Bass is pretty boring, user. Good job shutting me down :)
No. But if you take a shower and go outside you might.
Camden Gutierrez
no but if you play gigs and socialize you might
Brandon Rivera
you might get a bf

A band asked me to try out as their guitarist and said I should know 3 songs. They have about 10 and I learned 4 this week. Is it a good idea to learn all? If they don't like me I will have wasted a lot of time
Jaxon Murphy
try lowering the pickups a bit, makes it less piercing more
maybe learn a 5th that's a pretty cool number? Learning 10 seems excessive but more than 3 shows initiative and above scrub-level guitar skills. You did good user
Owen Lee
You don't even have to be good Just get on a stage and suddenly women are attracted to you
trying to learn bass but I was getting fret buzz so I took it to guitar center and they are charging me $50 and making me come back next week. how hard did I fuck up lads. I didn't have the right allen wrench size to do it myself
in fact it's full because I don't fall for corp guitar marketing
Jacob Price
Pretty sure youre enough of a bitch to legally be considered one so theres that.
Anthony Stewart
I'm trying to find out if women like guitar or bass more. I mean guitar is more impressive but bass players have better hands and can please them
Bentley Gonzalez

Hey /gg/
A good friend of mine recently moved out and gave me this Squier Affinity Telecaster. Basically, I wanna know what I'd have to do (aside from basic stuff like fret polishing) to make it sound/play the best it can. What pickups/tunning machines/bridge should I look into? I've only ever owned Strats so this a new domain for me.
>inb4 turd polishing I'm doing this only for the sentimental value.
Do you think it'd be okay to use a 9v 500mA power supply on a pedal that's provided power supply is 9.6v 200mA?
Its an EHX Grand Canyon, and I don't feel like continuing to use the provided power supply. Have a strip thing that has a spot with the first power rating.
I'm still getting my chops back from not playing seriously for about 8 years, and I was significantly a less mature musician back then as opposed to now. When should I work on moving off of babbys first guitar and amp
Tyler Watson
Agreed. He is a very skilled player and should feel proud of himself but listening to his music is like reading circuit schematics.
Robert Gutierrez
Lubricate the nut and saddles, adjust action to taste. That's about it. You can replace the nut and saddles with self-lubricating ones if you don't want to regularly lubricate them manually. You do NOT need new tuners. They will NOT improve tuning stability. Lubricating the nut and saddles will dramatically improve tuning stability.
Jose Murphy
you look like a cuck so i wont answer your question
>What about the pickups, though? Keep them for now. Play with them, a lot. Then decide if you like them or want to replace them. More expensive pickups are not necessarily better sounding, just different sounding. Pickups are exceptionally simple things and you can't make them sound better by throwing money and voodoo magic at them.
Ethan Young
Dude, are you not aware that Tosin is becoming more and more of a fat dork every day?
Guess it makes sense. If I do decide to change them what should I get, though?
Thanks in advance, solid advice.
Alexander Parker
>If I do decide to change them what should I get, though? If you decide to change them, what you should get will depend on the reason you want to change them. Two examples: - You like their overall sound but don't like how noisy they are. In this case you may wish to consider noiseless single coil pickups, or even active single coil pickups. - You find their sound too thin and/or you find their output too low. In this case you may wish to consider single coil-sized humbucking pickups or even hot rails.
Owen White

Jordan Powell
I've never gotten sounds I've liked out of middle pickups. I drift in and out of here. I talk about guitars when people actually want to, and I go do other shit when it's just shitposting and persona blogfaggotry. I'm glad I could be of help.
Angel Ward
When people tell you to play something what do you play? Me: Eruption
Ryan Powell
What do you play if someone tells you to play something on an acoustic?
Carson Ross
I've started learning perfect fourths tuning. Seems pretty well suited towards jazz. Allan Holdsworth reportedly said in an interview if he were to learn guitar from scratch again he would have started tuning in fourths.
tfw get home feeling like the biggest loser slave then grab your guitar and your hands are stiffer than ever and worse each day then you try to record a simple chord song for instagram and your voice is weak today
I've seen some people recommend 'Extreme Metal Bass' and 'Building Walking Bass Lines,' does anyone have a link to pdf scans of them? I'm a poorfag who can't get them legit any time soon.

The reason why his music is good has nothing to do with chops. It's his harmonic and rhythmic concept.
Maybe not GOAT, but good for sure. Allan never made any popular music and stuck to his own thing, which is why hes one of the most unique. I think I read somewhere he practiced for 10 years in actual time (so like 80K+ hours) and knew over 10,000 scales.
You definitely don't need to put in this amount of time to go places though, but autism of his nature is what it takes for GOAT status.
It probably is a Hardwired DL-8 delay pedal with a service bell. The black pedal is most likely a Morley ABY box. Matt Pike did a similar rig way back in the day youtube.com/watch?v=Zvuuhr4fcz0
Gavin Robinson
No. See also: Lionel Messi, a literal, actual aspie.

okay, r/guitar, I was just thinking about something today. the average person farts 13-21 times a day.
a pink floyd concert is typically 1.5-2 hours.
there's not a scenario in which david gilmour is not farting at least once in concert. he could be playing comfortably numb and, if there's a kaka lodged up his butt, when he farts, the air moves past it and smells like david gilmour kaka.
something to keep in mind when playing his tunes!
Oliver Richardson
Received my neodymium magnets
Next steps are >designing a bobbin where I can just press them into >designing + cutting a base plate out of copper clad laminate >design a part to hold the bobbin on the shaft of a stepper motor >wind >solder everything >get a guitar to try it on
I think my acoustic will work as a test mule
Something crazy I want to do is converting my superstrat into a supertele. The steps would be:
>filling the floydrose cavity with a suitable wood >stripping off all the paint >making the drills for a tele bridge >repainting >installing everything + replacing tuners with locking tuners and nut with a custom machined brass one
is solely learning from the JustinGuitar course / sequence a good idea? obviously after completion I’d branch out. Basically I FINALLY finished the beginner module.
Ethan Wright
how long did it take you to finish that
Andrew Baker
like a month when doing it casually, but i’ve been screwing around a little longer than that
William Walker
At which point is it smart to bite the bullet and take lessons?
Before which point are you wasting your time with lessons and should just teach yourself like an adult?
>white guy: lol fuck it, i'm white, i'll get laid anyways >black guy: i better do my best to stand out or else people will think i'm a nigger
Every time you think a black guy is cool just think of those two lines of greentext

take lessons when you platuae imo, assuming you’re already putting in quality, disciplined and intelligent effort.

the ultimate boomer guitar

What do I need for Mac Demarco sounds? From pickups to effects please because I’m a brainlet.

Mommy issues to start
Oliver Allen
That's pretty standard. They'll probably do an okay job.
Lincoln Brooks
Don't do that, you'll fry your pedal.
Noah King
Yes. I don't generally recommend people switch to fourths for a variety of reasons. However, if you're going to play jazz I can honestly say I can't think of any downsides, so you should look into it.
Classical: definitely do NOT play in fourths, the repertoire demands standard tuning and improvisation is not part of the genre. Rock/blues: don't play in fourths, you want to be able to play the repertoire and big open cowboy chords. Metal: definitely consider fourths, it makes learning a wide variety of scales very straightforward. Jazz, fusion, etc: I strongly recommend fourths because it makes learning the huge variety of chords and scales easier, it makes improvisation easier, and there is no fingering-dependent repertoire, and you don't need big open cowboy chords. Acoustic singer-songwriter shenanigans: absolutely not, you need those big open chords.
Genres I know little about: Country: no idea, probably a bad idea Ambient: probably worth a look Funk: no idea Folk: probably a bad idea, you want those open tunings
Parker Morales
What about prog rock user?
Joseph Morris
I don't know anything about prog rock. Seems like fourths could work, though.
I really have thought of this before, but with guthrie govan
Elijah Johnson
Yep, marketing like that
Evan Edwards
Still haven't tried a Parker so can't tell if they're memes or not
Gavin Richardson
open sus tunings work well for prog. try CGCGCF

what kind of left or right hand exercice could i do while i watch series ? i've gotten pretty good at switching between any chords, bare chords as well, aiming from the first fret to the 9th or other things like that, so lemme know if there are other things i can practice without being too focused on hearing what i'm doing

Yo, fibbin' or foolin', you gotta be like "standard tuning allows a very [fucking] standard approach, yet many choose to adapt."
We are standing on the shoulders of giants. Play your heart out in Standard. Tune 24" up to F#, tune 25.5" down to Dop Db Standard, capo 'til you're in tune lel. Okay now make a band!
