How old were you when you outgrew taking music seriously? I was about 19. It was soul crushing because I was really into music as a teenager. I used to scour rym lists for obscure music in all sorts of genres. I thought this passion was legitimate but then I grew up and realized that music was a distractor/pacifier, like pop culture drama or porn. How old were you when you came to this startling realization and decided to stop wasting your time with it? This doesn't apply to the angsty teenagers that are still going through this phase or the 20+ year old manchildren that have yet to shed this time wasting behavior.

dude nothing matters lmao

you are arrogant to assume that you understand the true nature of music

that you'd gleam this from the post tells me more about you. writing this post off as nihilism is a defense mechanism. you find it hard to cope with the truth that music is a waste of time so you convince yourself that the person with these beliefs is a nihilist when in fact they're not
you're arrogant to assume there is a single defined true nature for music

POO POO PEEPEEEEEE

>stop wasting your time with it?
>*posts on a tawainese music forum*
i know this is bait but i still like music at the age of 27. youll never "outgrow" music, stop being a pretentious asswipe.

tell me more about me

>youll never "outgrow" music, stop being a pretentious asswipe.
you're a 27 year old that tripfags on a music forum. why should anyone put weight in your opinions on anything? you're the manchild being described here
your gay. stupied idiot

I understand what you mean, but finding and listening to obscure music doesn't mean that you're taking music seriously. Any passion or passtime could be called a distraction, especially when you don't specify what it's distracting us from.

it wasnt the act of rummaging through obscure music that i enjoyed, it was the music itself

I was about 23 when I really started to accept that music was a pointless waste of time. Still come to Yea Forums for the memes though.

based

sorry i misunderstood.
when you say that it is a distraction/pacifier, what do you mean? Do you mean that it is unproductive in furthering your individual goals or do you mean that it is breads and circuses to stop people from responding to global events.

dude nihilism lmao
based

i mean nice trips.. can u pls keep bumping my thread while i'm out running some errands. LOL

You sound fun at parties

I was already 25 when I realized it. So many wasted years desu. It's funny because it's obvious that the vast majority of Yea Forums are still in their pleb phase where they take pride in listening to something obscure and treat music as if there's something to achieve listening to it.

and why should we care about your anonymous resentful brainlet opinion on music? kys

you shouldn't but you keep bumping the thread so you do

forgot to sage

what do you do now instead of listening to music that you deem to not be a "waste of time"?

bump
make bait threads

Art is one of the most important facets of the universe, you're a fool if you think it's a waste of time especially considering music is one of the oldest and one of the most important art forms.
"The effect of music is so very much more powerful and penetrating than is that of the other arts, for these others speak only of the shadow, but music of the essence" - Arthur Schopenhauer

based. OP is motherfucking gay and an impossibly retarded fuckwit

this troll falls apart entirely when you remember op is posting on Yea Forums

>ywn be this insecure to project this hard
phew

i never said that there is a single defined true nature of music, i would claim that i do not understand the true nature of music and you should claim so too because otherwise you are probably lying

>outgrew taking music seriously
Yo never liked music then. You were just a poser

Pop music and memerap isn't art.

If you mean dropping all that stuff so that you can start a family and raise kids or whatever meme goal then imagine being such a neurotic wreck that you need to stop doing literally everything in order to throw yourself with completely desperate and needy abandon into something most other people just get on with

Nobody here claimed that you dumb piece of shit.

It's a good thing that there's more to music than pop and rap then lol

of course it is

all music is art you fucking nitwit

Attached: He's_right_you_know.jpg (800x598, 73K)

if everything is art then nothing is. there needs to be something that distinguishes art from the commercial, the cheap entertainment, the jingle meant to sell you a car or a soft drink

>if everything is art then nothing is
[citation needed]

>there needs to be something that distinguishes art from the commercial, the cheap entertainment, the jingle

there is, it's called the observer

maybe you should read the rest of my post. or don't, you clearly have nothing to add to the conversation

>there needs to be something that distinguishes art from the commercial, the cheap entertainment, the jingle meant to sell you a car or a soft drink
why

It is just music bro not a lifestyle lmao ur retarded

i remember my schopenhauer phase. kek good times

@86513897

idk man why do you care lol

there is a difference between art and entertainment. art is self-expression. rap and pop are art

What kind of music do you think MatPat's wife Stephanie listens to?

>citing the incel "philosopher"
Lmao

Retards.
Blind retards. This board ONLY and EXCLUSIVELY discusses those two things. All the shit discussed here is pop garbage like Ariana Grande and edgy 12 year oldcore like Lil Peep and J Cole. Not art - it's literally useless filth designed for tween girls to feel their clits burn up at the image of whatever music is being made so they compulsively stream brain rotting garbage in order to social climb. No music is art except classical.

bruh, I don't agree with his views on women...

>No music is art except classical.
So my point still stands, music is still one of the most important art forms and not a waste of time. Also why dismiss trad folk as art?

I remember when I took Yea Forums this seriously. If you can't think of anything better to do with your time you should double down on the amount of brain cells you lose due by seething harder

art doesn't have to be good

Obvious bait but on the off chance you're serious, love for music is one of the most universal aspects of the human experience and if you don't have it you most likely have an autism spectrum disorder or schizoid personality disorder. And I cannot stress enough that I'm neither joking or exaggerating

Music and girls are a waste of time realized this when i was 15

Music is only useful for meditating on the life of Christ and the passing of this world

Could you elaborate more on that?

Not OP but curious as to how (schizoid personality) disorder leads to disregarding music

is there anything out there that is actually worth our time though?

working that overtime at your job, of course

Incredibly based
Music

>I used to scour rym lists for obscure music in all sorts of genres
you didn't really love music, you just wanted to feel cool and are now jerking off, feeling superior and tasting your own farts over the fact that you have never actually appreciated music

Not him but true schizoids feel no pleasure and don't really have an emotional reaction to anything. That's what a schizoid is.

21. It took a while to realize that my interest in music was to cope for the lack of real skills in anything useful.
Listening to music — tbqfh senpai — is a thing to do. I can’t even consider it a hobby due to how useless it is.

for me personally I think enjoying good music is certainly worthwhile, but I think if i dig too deep into why it's worthwhile i'll just end up disappointing myself with the conclusions

Same. I realized it around 19 as well. Men shouldn’t be wearing band t-shirts, escaping into music countless hours a day, etc. unless it’s their job. A man should be focusing on school/career, friendships, his girlfriend/wife, his family, and the Lord. Unfortunately, most of Yea Forums would rather sit around, mope, and listen to music constantly.

Saged.

surely it's about balance though, there's always a lil room for music in your life

>schizoid
>autism
nah don't think so, autistic people love music (as is evident by their presence in Yea Forums) and I've never read anything about schizoid not getting music but maybe I'm wrong. It is a real mental disorder which OP might have though, it's called musical anhedonia

Tell us o wise one, what isn't a waste of time so that we may finally accomplish our holy duties without distractions ?

>Music is a waste of time
>Looking at memes is a productive use of my time though

Attached: 9878749195819.jpg (253x297, 25K)

>not taking your enjoyment of music further, learning an instrument, and playing in a band

fag

You might outgrow trying to get an encyclopedic grasp on music as a whole, but disregarding the simple joy of music in general might mean you are troubled in some way

The post is obviously ironic, come on.

>A man should
No

Lmao and another falls for the ironic serious answer to an ironic post in an ironic thread
My god when will you kids fucking learn thanks for the karma points see ya.

t. edgy 21 year old

I know it's ironic but I still reply and always with a sage :)

OMG and he thinks it was an ironic post when it was actually the biggest SAVE of a called out non-ironic answer to an ironic post
WOW dude, you are making me burns so much karma i might ascend to Nirvana by the end of this month !
Not even saging

I feel like my soul is being built up with songs. Each song I hear is another piece. I feel impoverished and malnourished without music.

Yeah, conventional hobbies are just too mainstream. Maybe try parachute free cliff jumping?

formerly?

CHUCK!

the only phase is not playing music seriously and treating it like a hobby instead of a quasi-magical art form yes i am high. it is only until recently that i dropped my ego and started playing again. i may never be what i could have been, but if nothing else, playing guitar has brought me brief moments of joy

I don't think music is necessarily a waste of time or un-serious. There are good artists that are serious about it and make interesting work. Even still, music that is meaningless or not extremely deep has value in that it's enjoyable for the groove and bounce it carries. Thus, I would say I like both Pretty Hate Machine and Anacapa, but for completely different reasons.

why do people pretend to be christian on here, it's really embarrassing

they do whatever fulfills their reactionary needs

You're only saying it here to try and get back at the people who made you feel insecure before, otherwise you'd keep it to yourself.

My name was Robert Paulson

It was when I outgrew metal and liked vaporwave, once I got to a point in metal that gore noise didn't even shock me or entertain me I gave up on it. At that point I didn't use metal to define me and I liked a lot of music for it's sound and couldn't give a damn what people think of what I like. So I'd say at about 16.

18 1/3

Shut the fuck up, holy shit.

are you saying you stopped participating in the obscurity competition, or that you stopped listening to music altogether? Because music should still be taken seriously on a visceral level, if not on the level of artist recognition/reputation etc.

Attached: images.jpg (180x280, 7K)

I was 17 when it happened, because I realized that all the music I listened was to please this board, and I couldn't actually play it on a car without being asked to turn it off, you are all pretentious pieces of shit

I still find enjoyment in music and I'm 24. Although, since about 21, I have occasionally thought about how pointless it is and have spent brief periods not listening to music at all.

Must have been pretty shitty songs if you feel that way.
