We gotta talk about rap, Yea Forums. Forreal.

In 2019, with hiphop/rap easily becoming the most popular genre in the US (especially with youth), what are your thoughts? Do you think rap is headed in a positive direction or is it completely fucked?

I think there’s a ton of great rap music out there and most of it was released within the last 2/3 years. It’s easy to forget that in 2018 we got blessed with KSG, Taboo, Die Lit, Astroworld, Famous Cryp..

I don’t see how you could argue that rap has nothing to offer

Modern rap is shit and rapidly getting Shittier ever since white people became the main listeners. What are some promising newer music subcultures out right now?

Rap is utter garbage. It is literally the product of fatherless, overgrown and uneducated children who are so lazy they dont even learn an instrument. Every time I listen to it I literally feel dumber.

Hip hop is dead, you zoomer retards are listening to zombie hop

What's going to happen and what's being pushed is a fusion of hip hop and pop, there will be one music period presented on a global scale, and it will be a combination of the degenerate shit modern rap pushes performed by fake edgy artists in a pop music format of literally nothing but hooks.

Pretty much this. I grew up loving hip hop, but this new zoomer shit is vapid degeneracy

The fact that people see any of those albums you mentioned as having anything positive is a sad statement about hip hop. It's held to the same standards as middle school marching bands. It's almost racist, as if critics think black people are incapable of creating music that isn't vapid garbage

people have their minds made up on hip-hop man you can't argue or convince people
You just like it or you don't. I remember my dad showing me clean eminem music videos (his more meaningful stuff like lose yourself, sing for the moment, like toy soldiers) on yahoo music and that kinda established my interest in rap. On the flip side, if you've never really listened to hip-hop or jazz until you've reached 18 or so I can imagine it sounding alien and isolating to listen to. You could never convince me hip-hop isn't good, just like I could never convince somebody that it is.

As though old school hip hop wasn't complete degeneracy as well.

The only good hip hop is "too white" despite most of it being made by black people

The namefag speaks the truth

>Kids See Ghosts
>middle school marching bands tier

wow you’re fucking retarded. the only way you could consider kids see ghosts vapid garbage is if you never listened. Die Lit I get but even thats got substance you faggot

die lit is far and away the best album he posted, megafaggot

poor OP. He just wanted a nice comfy hip hop threads but everybody is saying hip hop is dead and trash.

He only mentioned how vapid it was, not the total quality. You can't deny that Die Lit is thematically vapid, even though it's great anyways

Trip-hop is a pretty cool offshoot of rap music and I think there's a lot of really talented artists that do interesting things with sampling.

I dont think the extreme mainstream attention rap is getting will change it significantly, or rather not more than it wouldve evolved if it had stayed more underground. There will always be great and horrible artists no matter what, both sides will grow equally. Who becomes popular in this era doesnt really matter and does not reflect on the genre as a whole since anything that becomes as popular as rap is right now becomes less about actual music and more about image and identity.

And to all the bait replies saying rap as a genre is trash consider this a (you), hope youre happy now

>Famous Cryp
Zoomers need to stop talking about Hip Hop. It's not even that I don't like modern Hip Hop, there is a lot of it that is good, but this kind of garbage is what is giving Rap a bad image.

Blueface is literally just rapping like someone who just started Rapping and struggle to follow the beat. His Rapping is simply not good, and that you call it a "blessing", proves that you shouldn't be allowed to talk about Rap.

Of course, zoomers are going to compare him to E-40, because "lol he's off-beat", and also because they follow Genius on youtube. There is literally a zoomer who told me that Blueface was "basically E-40" the other day. Once again, it proves that you don't know what you are talking about, and you are responsible for the bad image people have of Rapping. Praising Blueface is like praising a drummer who can't fucking beat the drums with rhythm while being in coordination with his band, and saying that he's "like E-40" is like saying that fucking Scott Joplin is like this kid because this kid is off-beat and Scott is syncopated :
youtube.com/watch?v=wx4vRsKCjho

E-40 was not fucking off-beat, and was not in any way similar to Blueface. E-40 had a low-pitched staccato delivery and doubled the amount of syllables he pronounced per beats to make his flow bouncy. The verses aren't all around the place, just around the beat, and he double the amount of syllables that usually fit in 4 bars. There is nothing similar between E-40 bouncy flow and what Blueface is doing. Blueface is just sorts of mumbling off beat while being at a slower bpm than the instrumental. He seems to have latency issues

I can't believe Zoomers are comparing this :

to this :
youtube.com/watch?v=LX0TOg-V_iU

They fucking loosed their mind

I really would have to disagree. To me someone like Lil Uzi is someone who's music is vapid but the total quality is alright. Carti and Pierre's music has so much nuance to it though. To a casual listener I could see how Carti would fit right in with his contemporaries but in my opinion he really stands head and shoulders above them. I honestly think when Whole Lotta Red comes out we might be looking at the best hip-hop trilogy of all time.

where do i find more like this?

>I honestly think when Whole Lotta Red comes out we might be looking at the best hip-hop trilogy of all time.
Definitely

I would argue there's a lot more merit to what Uzi was doing (rip). Without Uzi, none of the guys that are getting popular now would be doing what they are. He's definitely a singles guy, but I think it's very refreshing given how bloated and stale hip hop was from 2010-2015.

Blueface has some pretty dope beats though

this is accurate, but misleading. rap before the 00's was god-awful, and 10's rap in all it's glorious degeneracy is still preferable to the unbearable garbage that is 80's and early 90's hip-hop. even if the recent trend towards pop hop is making the genre more retarded, it's still at a better place than it was 20 years ago

what’s next for rap music? The current wave seems to be emo rap and trap, so how should it progress forward from here?

obvious answer: experimental and industrial stuff. Death Grips, JPEGMAFIA, Lil Ugly Mane, Clipping, and other industrial hip hop groups are enjoying rising popularity recently, and it's only a matter of time until the subgenre overtakes emo and trap

>emo rap and trap
I don't listen to rap, can you give me some examples? Thank you

It sucks and I feel retarded listening to it
