emergence is a poor, contrived, and damn near cynical, tragedy. don't bother reading it for anything other than the sex, which is pretty good.

I felt the opposite. Didn't care about the sex, found the story entertaining if only to see just how much worse things would get.

humans will naturally feel sympathy for characters that we experience for long enough, and shindol just manipulates that basic human function to make a tragedy without meaning. i don't wanna be too hard on him though, since a true good tragedy is very hard to write.
