I used to hate this album. I thought it was boring, underdeveloped, lackluster and just boring. However one day I found myself listening to it repeatedly, delighted by the synergy of Playboi Carti and Pi'erre Bourne. It gives so much insight into how Carti and his team go about creating such a project, compromising song-writing/lyricism for the first-time listeners in favor of creating texture and sound rather than coherently telling a story (but this is not to say the record doesn't have lyrical merit). The way that the hypnotic beats dance with Carti's famous adlibs and delivery is near perfection, examples like this seen on No Time, Lean 4 Real, Fell in Luv, and Love Hurts. The record balances these dreamy, trance-inducing tracks with off the wall bangers like R.I.P., Choppa Won't Miss, and R.I.P. Fredo, not to mention Shoota, which is probably the most standout track on the album. The features are tasteful, with names like Gunna, Young Thug, Travis Scott, and Skepta, who all deliver on the album. The most eclectic trap album yet, drawing influence from minimalism, shoegaze/dream-pop, and trap. Die Lit is in any case one of the greatest albums to come out in the 2010's era
