rocking out is for boomers with hip dysplasia. all the cool kids are sitting cross-legged in front of a pedal board the size of a bus and playing a single muted note that rings out for 15 minutes and sounds like a broken washing machine
so I'm just starting to play guitar(for about 3 months on and off) on my shitty chinese guitar and I know some power chords and barre chords and manage to play along to some simpler songs, where do I go off that? Is learning scales important compared to getting a sense of rhythm first? anything would help.
Chase Carter
all you need to know right here breh >shit in your hand and rub it on your chest
What sort of guitarist do you want to become? Do you want to do everything? Do you want to be lead guitarist? Do you want to play acoustic in front of grills?
>and I know some power chords What the fuck does this mean? It's just one shape. Moved up and down the guitar. You don't learn "power chords", you lean "power chord".
Jacob Fisher
I rated you poorly last time but I've decided the Boonar is pretty cool.
Parker Hernandez
You realise that there are three different shapes for the traditional power chord voicing and far more if you consider all fifth chords.
Consider: Dig one hole and dig it deep is often effective for a while. Focus on solo acoustic songs maybe, or focus on scales. But make sure you do it right, or else you're going to be reinforcing bad habits.
this is the ugliest graphic design I have ever read

the price is all the guy's labor and little else. RnD has been recouped decades ago and materials are included in the price so its real value is closer to $80-100 like most pedals.

Godspeed, user. You don't need a whammy bar when you have an SG.
Many of them sound inconsistent due to the difference between the bass and treble string's tone.

Nah but i really want a 12 strings and i've only read good things about it. Great value for money it seems.
Ayden Morris
Recommend you learn your fretboard through reading sheet music. Scales are better when you're doing them as a technique practice as well as learning theory, but you should know the fretboard and a modicum of theory before you spend serious time doing scales without understanding why they're built the way they are.
Landon Walker
>these things sound inconsistent therefore they do not exist
Gabriel Morales
Are Gibson guitars really that bad?
Luis Morales
QC has been pretty spotty the last fifteen years, so there are some decent ones and some awful ones. Generally nowhere near the quality you expect for the price (especially those $5k Les Pauls). There are also some poor design choices that have never been corrected because guitarists are traditionalists, mainly related to the headstock.
That said, there are plenty of good ones out there.
Colton Cook
THey've had a bad couple of years. Wait for the 2019s to come out.
Henry Walker
Ok thanks, what sort of stuff is wrong with them in particular?
I won't be buying one, not even a fan. Just interested in what went wrong with them
Evan Evans
I'd probably give it a couple of years to be on the safe side.
John Reyes
bad management led to most of their experienced craftsman quitting or getting fired.
Jose Garcia
QC covers everything, it just means a lack of consistency. Guitars are shipped without a proper setup. They're pushed through so things like damaged finishes, sharp frets aren't caught and corrected.
They've also made some very strange choice regarding direction, namely their attempt to become a consumer electronics company, and plain hilarity like the Firebird X. Not many people liked the HP additions, but I'm glad at least one company was brave enough to experiment with electric guitar design - and they were optional.
Add to this the rather optimistic pricing and you can see why people haven't been keen lately. Got five thousand dollars for a Les Paul with a chipped finish?
They should just fix the headstock angle and the string path at the nut.
Connor Reed
But then they'd become a PRS
Jaxon Gutierrez
hi Yea Forums, i am bored with my programming job. Recently my coworkers invite me to karaoke and forced me to join them.. Thanks to that event, now I know I have a nice voice cause my coworkers were mindblown. So now I want to learn music, specifically electric guitar.. my budget for now is 310 USD.. what equipments should I buy if I want to hear myself playing an electric guitar? >why guitar? cause I found my drummer :D
Parker Collins
And how having a nice voice gave you the idea to get a guitar instead of focusing on singing?
>this is the implication rather than explaining why no one uses large chords that consist only of roots and fifths Nevermind the obscured tonality since 5 chords don't commit to Major or minor outside of the key signature.
Ayden Flores
They're so light and plasticky. I my soi hand can easily hold it while playing neosoul licks for my instagram.
Jackson Cox
the drummer said he need a guitarist too and I have always been wanted to learn guitar.. so please help, kind sir?
Luis King
Person from earlier asking when to change strings I played for ~20 minutes, two strings immediately out of tune, re-tuned them, and after a short while one of them was out of tune again.
So I guess I need to change them. However I've never done this before. Is there anything I should avoid while changing the strings? I'm going to change all of them, but some videos/articles tell you to only change on string at a time, while others tell you to just remove all of them at the start and then restring them simultaneously. I'm leaning towards doing it one by one but I'm not sure if that's the right way?
Bentley Turner
310 ameribucks is not a lot. I hope the drummer doesn't hit too hard. What genre do you want to play?
Evan Reyes

Probably not as the turbo mode on the od-2r does a nice thick and chunk distortion but RAT's do have such a cult following.

No, they'd still need sterile and lifeless pickups
William Baker
Hello man! Unironically get a cheap used squier. At your budget a better amp rather than a better guitar makes a world of difference,a and since you will be playing live you want to sound half decent, so get a katana or any other nice amp, maybe marshall code series, avoid Line6 at all costs

Is there any reason to keep the Fender hardshell case if you have a semi-hard case?
god I can’t fucking decide if I want to learn bass or guitar first and what will be better for me
Adam Barnes
Damn, you need a pretty clean amp who will not distort at moderate volume but with $300 for guitar+amp it will be hard and i'm not super knowledgable about these cheap entry level amps. For the guitar take something inexpensive like a squier bullet strat, who cares, you will suck at first anyway but like another user said put the majority of your money on your amp not the guitar.
Jackson Howard
With this indecisive loser attitude bass would fit you well. Leave the stage presence to the guitar chads.
Colton Cooper
Wait 20 years and sell it for 100 times the price because it's vintage and made of tone woods

Man, will I ever stop regretting falling for the floyd rose meme in 2006? I'd have gotten this instead of a guitar with a shitty floyd-rose clone if I knew it was useless
no dude I want to be a chad I keep reading things about how much better guitar is when you know how to play bass which means you will have developed good rhythm and timing, understanding music better, makes you a better musician etc almost as if it’s near impossible the other way around
Isaiah Lee
You would have regretted that ugly natural finish in that case
Christopher Howard
lol, what are you, a faggot?
Nolan Wilson
>You would have regretted that ugly natural finish in that case Quite the contrary, it looks even better knowing that mahogany is now extinct in the wild. The only point of painting guitars is that you can use wood with all sorts of holes and zits by filling them with wood putty.
Looks like the guitar body version of a dry poop ferro fretboard
Dylan Cruz
bass is cool, guitar is cool too. Drums are hella cool tho
Carter Long

Different guy, but sure... >improper fretting thumb placement (will depend on what you're playing at that moment) >not practicing with a metronome >not learning theory >not holding pick the correct way >rigid hands and arms while playing >supporting neck with left hand >playing barre chords without using bony side of finger And worst of all... >browsing /gg/ It's better to talk to someone one on one for learning. Or to someone IRL. Or to read books or articles on learning. If you want, I like teaching people on Discord to save them from /gg/ and other places. I can drop my tag if you want.
People also pay hundreds of dollars for coffee that a cat has already digested and shit out. What's your point?
Colton Campbell
there's a yamaha music instruments nearby my place.. should i check it out? is yamaha pacifica suits me? anyway, thanks for the input! Right now I am thinking on buying second hand guitar and amp (with headphone jack)
William Garcia
This is correct Another case of the >rent free 's
Isaiah Martin
>yamaha pacifica They are made for tiny asian hands. The neck is so thin and small it gave me handcramps.
Lincoln Long
They're probably the best at that pricepoint. Feels like a far more expensive instrument.
Levi Peterson
>(with headphone jack) Look at the Fender Mustang amps then > is yamaha pacifica suits me? any guitar will do the job, honestly, take one that you like the look of, you want to love your first instrument, a lot of entry level instruments are good these days (i started in 1996 with a shitty korean vantage 113t with a neck like a baseball bat), check the guitars in your price range, read some reviews and you'll be good. Stick to known brand tho (squier, yamaha, peavey to name some) so you don't end up with a (really) shit instrument. And take lessons.
the roland cube amps are pretty nifty and there are good chances you can find them used. They're basically indestructible and the new ones are very versatile. They sound very good for a small amp. I have one of the piss old cube 40s which basically only does clean tones and has a terrible hiss, but I love it anyway. Pic related is a new one
Go play it or play something similar at a local guitar shop find out what model it is and do some research on what the sell for typically both new and used if it seems like a good deal at that point scoop it up.
Jose Watson
>I've never understood metronome practice White dudes
Noah Williams
bump please give me opinions on what to do
Lincoln Hernandez
Strings are made of metal. Metal corrodes over time. A year is plenty of time to rust enough to effect playability so change them.
Luis Adams
If you're buying electric be sure to be VERY thorough in testing out the electronics. I bought a hollowbody once that was great in just about every way, but one out of every couple of times I would specifically switch between the middle and bridge pickup positions, the guitar wouldn't output at all. It would go back to normal after flicking the switch a few times, but it would have been nice to know about before I bought it
Henry Hill
Not with that tone
Jose Bailey
I will put it as bluntly as possible. Realistically you are already too old to get proficient at either instrument. Based on your posts I can also determine that you will never be part of a band context or play on a stage due to your insecurities and crippled socials skills. In this case a single guitar will get you further in your bedroom playing career than a bass would.
Brandon Ross
>you are already too old to get proficient at either instrument. Kek, what are you talking about?
thanks for that total projection enjoy your guitar
Hudson Butler
Thread the string with enough slack to get three complete winds around the spindle, kink it on the post in both directions, and tighten. Never try to 'lock' the string by overlapping the winds. Such a practice is a common, cringeworthy misconception. Be mindful that a freshly strung string will take some time and retuning before it naturally settles.
Brody Torres
just play both. a bass can do the same thing a guitar can. you can play chords on bass but a guitar just does it better. also the bass and guitar have the same notes bass is just an octave down.
Brody White
its a di. wait i know your just jelly you cant play bass.
Ryder Long
Any reason not to buy a cheap Pacifica and pay ÂŁ110 for a full setup, new cut bone nut, frets levelled, rolled edges etc?
that head stock angle is part of the gibson sound. it creates more tension on the nut. there isn't any problem with tuning stability with a properly cut nut.
Andrew Martinez
they are more resonant.
Elijah Cox
All I have is a 5 watt tube amp and a25 watt solid state. Are either of these loud enough to gig with?
Oliver Edwards
depends on the gig
Lincoln Rogers
Drop your discord Id senpai
Owen Cruz
I see. I should add that the 5 watt tube is a head that is hooked up to a small 1x8 speaker. Would hooking it up to a 1x12 make it more gig able? What types of music and gigs could I play with the 25 watt solid state combo or alternatively the 5 watt tube?
by that logic wouldn’t it be pointless to buy any strat other than the cheapest fender mim strat because everything else is just polished versions of that?
Jose Myers
You don't understand.
Elijah Bennett
Actually yes, and also black dudes and asian dudes who live the euro lifestyle. Metronome practice is practicing rhythm. White culture considers rhythm trash so you can go your entire life without learning it - and you're probably out of practice.
But if you're a little nigger/wigger in the middle of compton you were probably learning to keep up with rhythmic chants and rap battles from the day you could talk. It's not a critical period dependent skill, you can polish up on your rhythm pretty late in life. But some people do have a head start. There's also genetic factors but they aren't associated with any races - they're just the same ones that make you good at music in the first place.
Cooper Bennett
it's baby boomer shit

whammy bars are for fingerlets who can't bend and SLAYERRRRR metal players who can't actually play and just randomly whack the thing until it sounds cool
tune-o-matic string through body is the best bridge, HH is the best pickup configuration, 4+2 is the best headstock design, 3 way switch, volume per pickup and master tone with push/pull for your gimmick of choice is the best control layout, 22 is the best number of frets, 24.75 is the best scale length, the best fingerboard radius is 12", and the best number of strings is 7.
Xavier Phillips
Ha ha haa I always laugh when I see some dumb shit buy a cheap guitar and immediately start "upgrading" it. They usually start by asking for replacement pickup suggestions. It's like why, you dumb fuck? Why did you buy a guitar you didn't think sounded good to begin with? I'll tell you why: because you don't know what the fuck you're doing and you have no clue what the fuck you're after. You bought some retarded piece of shit because of how it looked in a picture on the internet and then when you got it home and actually played it ..it sounded and played like straight up ass. So you started "upgrading" it instead of admitting to yourself that you don't know shit and made a mistake, or that the guitars construction was so shitty that you didn't have any other choice but to "upgrade" it to make it a playable instrument. Here's the thing though: you could have just saved all the time and money you sank/wasted into "upgrading" a piece of shit and just bought a decent guitar to begin with. You bedroom warriors are a hilarious lot, watching you flail about trying to polish turds into diamonds. If a diamond is what you wanted why didn't you just go out and buy a diamond to begin with?
cheapest fender mim strats are made of shittier wood than more expensive ones, they'll use 3 or more pieces and glue it together and put a thick ass coat of polyurethane on top to cover that shit. more expensive ones are nicer wood and thinner paint because they don't need to hide that shit wood. nicer ones have legitimate electronics and tuners and shit too, MIM stuff you'll end up wanting to replace a lot of it (fuck ceramic pickups desu). and good fender maple necks are 1 piece of maple, MIM necks are 2 pieces.
Does it make a difference in tone? Probably not a huge difference directly, but it feels better and more solid and you can play with more confidence so you play better. and you'll spend less time monkeying around with everything and have more time to actually just play your damn instrument.
that yamaha pacifica is probably 5 pieces of wood, shitty tuners and pickups, will need a ton of work to get it playable, and at the end of the day it's still a fucking yamaha pacifa.
Jaxson Young
and there's the pasta make sure you get some practice in today lads
Xavier Thomas
its funny because gibson fanboys always buy their $3000 guitars, and then the first thing they do is upgrade the nut, and then maybe the pickups, but it doesn't' count because they buy authentic gibson pickups. sometimes they even pay $100 for 10 cent capacitors wrapped in gibson tone paper.
but putting another $200 into a $500 superstrat is dumb. you could have imported basically the same guitar but made in japan for that money and still been just as dissatisfied.
speaking of satisfaction, it seems some people aren't satisfied until they spend so much they have no option but to be happy with what they have.
Cameron Brooks
Have you ever seen someone play a guitar at a store, like it, then look at the neck or body, notice it's multiple pieces, then half-assedly noodle around with it and put it away looking disgusted? I have, multiple times.
And then at the high end of the price range you have mutli piece necks and bodies but all of a sudden they're a good thing that add rigidity, stability, and sustain and a brighter tone and all that. But it's a good thing now because the guitar costs more than $1000.
Lincoln Richardson
>buying a les paul
enjoy your continuously fucked tuning on the g string and broken headstock lol. a $3000 gibson is worse than a $450 fender unironically.
John Johnson
Good question. I bought a gibson and kept trying to fix it. Why didn't I just buy a strandberg?
Benjamin Ross
>Have you ever seen someone play a guitar at a store, like it, then look at the neck or body, notice it's multiple pieces, then half-assedly noodle around with it and put it away looking disgusted? I have, multiple times. never

Jaxon Wood
I'm not white though . I don't think you have to practice a lot to feel the rhythm. You guys are very strange . Have you never danced or sang in your lives? Have you never heard music before deciding to play guitar?
Jose Ramirez
Believe it or not it's the same shit and usually the same factory and in a double blind test with each guitar given the same scale length, frets, strings, pickups, and wiring hardness, played through the same cable and amp on the same settings, you wouldn't hear the difference, and if you made sure they were made from the same wood and finish and both had rolled fingerboards, you wouldn't feel it either.
Shut in nerds don't dance or sing, they just listen to melodic death metal and baroque masterpieces.

The best shit are these stupid guitar forum boomers with 10 telecasters that talk about getting another one while also describing the modifications they'll have to do to it. I suppose it sounds better that way when hanging on the wall.

what about the guitar forum teenagers who think the only guitar you can and should play is a superstrat
or people who get their guitar knowledge from pop culture and don't know you can have something like an HH telecaster that doesn't sound like concentrated nashville
bro that middle one is all jacked up, you need to replace the bridge and get a full sized EMG 81/85 pair, and replace the neck so it has at least 24 frets

Went to GC yesterday to noodle around with some semi-hollows. Most in my price range are pretty shit, but D'angelico really impressed me. They're clearly Asian made, but definitely higher quality than anything made my Epiphone or Ibanez in that price range.
Also fucked around with some more expensive guitars I wouldn't buy. Gibson QC is not a meme. I've never seen so many $1,000+ guitars with so many obvious flaws.
I don't understand why you're so unwilling to budge on this.
