if my amp is buzzing on certain notes, but i can't hear it acoustically, is it my amp fucking up or is it something to do with the frets/neck/whatever? I'm new.. sorry lads if it's retarded question
Wayne is probably pretty good at guitar now I use to clown on him for skating and he actually stuck with it and isn’t bad anymore
Luis Davis
yea somewhere along the way he ended up being a straight shredder somehow. i feel like this newest generation of popular guitar players really has something to offer
my new strat has fret buzz all across the neck even after I adjusted the action and added relief to the truss rod.
I think it's because my dumbass bought it online and didn't let it get up to room temperature before I opened it because it came in from outside (very cold). What do I do?
why? It just lets you transpose open chords. I guess if that's all you're doing then it makes it easier but if you don't have decent strumming technique or a good voice to go along with it, it won't make you seem better at the instrument
Camden Thomas
How many of you actually spend time PLAYING your guitar rather than talking about guitars on the internet?
playing guitar isn't as important as people think it is. I actually think it's more important to just have fun and know how to buy guitars. Buying good guitars is an aquired skill, people will notice when you have a guitar that is actually nice.
Matthew Walker
/gg/ in a nutshell right here, jesus christ why do i come to this website
Is my guitar going to die? Should I bite the bullet and get a hard case?
Jackson Cook
Try living in 'Straya where it's 22 degrees (70f) one day and 40(105f) the next, RIP tuning stability
Easton Jackson
>youtu.be/AYIKs33jMow?t=98 How the fuck do I strum like that? I get the pattern, but I can't reproduce the actual sound of the strumming and he doesn't explain it.
The kind of music that gets you high, I could feel the soul dripping through my screen. Thanks
Isaac Murphy
what the fuck, proof?
Aiden Powell
lol sorry dad all the kids are in bed
Ian Reyes
Nice grain. And that's the only pickup combination anyone ever needs.
Thomas Walker
do people in other countries who browse websites frequented by Americans always feel compelled to have to convert their units for us? stop doing that shit, it's embarrassing. don't convert shit for us, it's cucky
Kevin Evans
One way or another the entire world defaults to America, it's just the way it is. >turned China capitalist >monks drink coke in Tibet >zulus call home on iPhones in Africa >etc. >etc. youtube.com/watch?v=Rr8ljRgcJNM
The idea that anyone (or anything) on Earth can stand up to us is quite ridiculous frankly, as is the notion that there's any culture that's escaped us unmutilated. Ask the Soviet Union if you don't believe me. When your great great great grandchildren get to be the first people to lay eyes on another planet instead of spending their lives toiling in the soil for survival you'll only have us to thank.
If it's a tube amp, you could have a microphonic preamp tube. Gently tapping them one by one with the handle of a scredwriver or similar with the amp turned up about halfway will usually reveal the culprit. Other than that there are kinds of things (handles, baffle, grill cloth, emblems, etc) that could be loose and/or just plain prone to rattle at certain frequencies.
Angel Lee
Or a humidifier for your music room, at least. Need to be around 50%.
Adam Perez
>One way or another the entire world defaults to America, nah, not really. most people on Earth just don't use the inch/foot system. more often I see Americans convert inches to centimeters for convenience, not vice versa
Joseph Fisher
When you adjusted the action, did you match the string heights to the radius of the fingerboard? Have you checked/adjusted the neck angle? Many strats are shimmed from the factory, if the heel end is too high, the strings will never completely clear the upper frets and cause all kinds of buzzes and chokes.
Beyond that, if you have a straight edge, you can check the levelness of the frets themselves. Most Fenders are pretty good, but sometimes problems slip through. Heel hump could also be an issue, but you'll usually be ok lower on the fretboard and it's uncommon on new guitars.
Landon Richardson
>nah, not really lol you've got to love the delusion.
Liam Price
What is /gg/'s opinion on Acoustic Steel and Classical Nylon guitars? Should I get one?
Joshua Russell
I find that those guitars are difficult to play, but what helped me learn is sharting an assload of smelly kaka out of my kakabutt and onto the floor You can pee on the kaka, too, for extra pissiness.
Then mash the pissy kaka pile into the guitar soundhole and reserve some kaka to rub on the strings.
Utilizing the power of kaka makes the guitar easier to learn.
take a break user, your /pol/ is leaking Maybe go outside or better yet, practice some chord inversions. You'll get there someday
Easton Miller
what? it's not widespread outside of the north america.
Jordan Ortiz
Why lie to yourselves like this? It won't ever make it not true.
Liam Lee
I'm really sad for Mac DeMarco, boy could he shred....
Leo Miller
Tell it to the Viet Cong.
Matthew Powell
really he played pretty basically imo
Justin Stewart
There's this video of him on YT, he's trading licks with Paul Gilbert. He chose not to overplay because his music is so simple, but the guy knew his fretboard. RIP Mac DeMarco
He’s probably the best guitarist out there who’s a professional rapper desu. I thought his playing would be a meme since a lot of his music is, but no. He’s surprisingly good. He’s even good rhythm and feel
Ian Perez
Especially when it comes to context, amirite?
Mason Perez
Incest kid
Kevin Price
That chart is completely accurate, both are used in the UK and it's fucking stupid.
Kevin Peterson
So what American guitar do you own a copy of?
Parker Nguyen
Nobody's ever going back to Imperial, user, just accept it.
Alexander Cooper
>Especially when it comes to context, amirite? Case in point.
I am loving my new deluxe big muff pi. That mids control is really fucking useful. Actually glad I got this over the green russian reissue I was initially eyeing (although I might still get that anyway). This one has way more sounds in it.
Christopher Adams
>Not going multi-fx *sips*
Jordan Peterson
I have a multi-fx. It has a muff model which I liked so I got a real muff and it sounds even better. Way better chord clarity and analog sound processing trumps a shitty digital model every day.
Kayden Adams
I'm tired
Wyatt Morales
Post your boards /gg/oys. Pic related is my fuck-around-and-not-practise board.
Context? Nobody's ever going back to imperial, regardless of context.
Jose Reyes
Now you just need a decent amp and it'll sound great.
Dylan Nguyen
Yeah I guess. Been keeping an eye out for a suitable used amp in my neighborhood for the last couple of months but so far no luck. A bass amp has priority anyway. At least I have that roland cube for my guitar. I play bass through VSTs now which is too much of a hassle for practicing.
Juan Cruz
If you're on a budget, the answer is Katana. Might even work with bass, since it's not tube it's far less likely to blow up on you.
Michael Evans
Why do anime girls love gibsons?
Is the short scale length better for people who are five feet tall?
Yeah, this is why that show features an LP and a Mustang.
Jayden Morales
Hi, Jcum! Nice to see you again! Let's discuss this clip you posted a couple of weeks back, ok? Remember? Here it is again in case you don't: vocaroo.com/i/s1hepaDJ6dzx
Pro-tip: if you spent more time actually practicing instead of posting Dean buyers remorse because you couldn't afford a genuine Gibson™ there's a chance you could stop being this bad of a player! Of course there are no guarantees but what could it hurt considering your skill level, am I right?
john lennon was a 5'10" manlet so yes. gibsons are manlet guitars.
Christopher Nguyen
That was a pretty terrible excuse. You'd think he'd just claim to be drunk or high or something, that's a much better reason to play so terribly.
Adrian Butler
While I've appreciated Jcums entertainment value in the general I think it's time for us to become responsible pet owners and try to teach him some better behavior! Sort of like you'd train a dog, namely through positive and negative reinforcement. I mean, pissing and shitting all over the the living room rug on command has it's charms for sure but I believe /gg/ can do better than that! Let's experiment, I say! A doggie treat for good behavior and a swift bop on the nose with a newspaper for bad! We're squandering a perfectly good /gg/ Chris Chan style opportunity here!
If Jcum can learn to play then anybody can! Whadda say /gg/?!? Can we do it?!?
>Removing pots from an old guitar because literally every electronic on it buzzes and crackles somehow and even ebay guts would work better >one is stuck >apply heat >nope >apply alcohol >nope >apply force >crack
Don't waste a nice looking piece of wood under a solid poly or nitro coat. Use a gentle application of a burned finish ie: shou sugi ban to bring the grain out and shellac it plain or dye it first.
I don't know if you can get a super intense burned finish on a pre-made body. Charring instead of just browning wood removes decent amount of material and would make the body thinner. It makes the grain show through dye better, but it would probably fuck with the setup.
Michael Murphy
Dunno. The Katana is probably great for most things, but I'm not sure it does doom and stoner very well. Then again, I don't think anything does at bedroom levels.
Cameron Lee
It's by far the best amp you'll get for the money, and it's indestructable. Doom and stoner tones can be had from pedals: you've already got a muff to get you started.
How about a plain old Telecaster Deluxe? Lots of colors available, and it would be straightforward to add the series/parallel push-pull.
Luis Murphy
I don't play bass but I'd like to. The local music shop has a pretty good quality bass on sale that's super cheap because it's used, fretless and left-handed.
>hey fellow amateurs i sound like shit how do i git gud >uh, get a metronome >try suicide >distortion pedals fix everything >you only need power chords on the last three strings
Lincoln King
i like the much smaller pickguard way more don't know about the bridge though. is there any real advantage one has over the other?
Landon Lopez
see, the majority of guys here bought into the gear = talent meme and can't actually play the guitar.
A gibson style bridge supposedly sustains better and doesn't pull the strings as tight, but only compared to top loader hardtails and tremolo strats.
A string through body fender bridge probably sustains a bit more and has more string tension, but still less than a gibson style bridge with the strings going through the body instead of a stop bar. Also, fender style bridges have a wider range of adjustment and individual string height setting.
That's my guess based on two minutes of google. Google it yourself to arrive at a better answer.
Samuel Butler
>begging for attention this hard Yeah no. Imma just lurk until i stop living >rent free
They're both good designs, to be honest (the Telecaster Deluxe has six saddles; don't get anything with three). I personally prefer the sound of a tune-o-matic/stoptail, but the difference is minimal.
I'm looking for a 335 style guitar. All the Epiphones I've played feel like shit, and I don't want to pay Gibson prices. Will this fit the bill? It's slightly more expensive than a Dot Pro but way cheaper than a legit 335.
Looks like a partscaster, not a modified JM. Serial number?
Chase Davis
I gave my swollen pickle to your mother.
Julian King
ebin it's a heavily modified jm, he got it off of somebody in san diego, the neck has the made in indonesia stamp on the back of the headstock and the skunk stripe and it has one of those newer squier neck plates so i'm certain it's not random parts. the body was refinished and they added that tacky fucking f hole that i'm probably gonna cover up with a sticker
Easton Ross
Wonderful! This is going to be so much fun. I'm about to leave for lunch but I'll be back tonight or tomorrow if you want to discuss any further details! Have a nice afternoon!
Why do they make you route out the neck pickup? Is it cheaper that way?
Ethan Lopez
huh?
Henry Fisher
YOU ONLY NEED ONE PICKUP
Parker Walker
The other guitar player in my current band still hasn't figured out the importance of the guitar not occupying the entire frequency range at full volume, all the time. The idea that his huge sound at home is not all that useful in a band setting just isn't sticking.
Colton Anderson
what sort of music does your band play?
Benjamin Gomez
Progressive punk funk
Asher Edwards
sounds pretentious. no wonder you attracted a retard wank guitarist
Sebastian White
Anyone got a got practice routine for guitar?
Cameron Fisher
prog and punk are antithetical styles, your band is probably shit
This is a great point. I never realized how much I suck at playing in the pocket. Rhythm is the most important element in music. Gotta work on time feel. Any tips?
Gavin Phillips
the absolute easiest way to work on your rhythm is to try and tap your foot in time while you play. Simple, but extremely effective
Isaiah Diaz
Any competent musician will know where rhythm is practiced, it’s not my job to hold your hand :)
Why do I get a ton of rumbling if I play the G note on the low E string and the open A string at the same time? Is there a way to get rid of it or avoid it?
Actually I checked again and I get similar rumble/disharmony from playing minor second chords on any strings. I don't know if it's my guitar or just what I'm playing
Julian Jackson
Wow a music interested person who plays the world's most played instrument. I'm surprised.
William Rivera
Well, that's normal, does it only happen when you're recording or does it happen when you play unplugged?
Henry Foster
Put Lace alumitones on it, crazy clean for everything from jazz to metal
Benjamin Campbell
It's not very noticeable if I play unplugged or without any distortion, so I guess it just means I have to avoid playing those chords like that when I'm recording
Tyler Roberts
But it's cool user make sure to use it for hardcore doom metal songs or something.
Jayden Allen
there is literally no reason to use single coils instead of humbuckers wired in parallel tube amps are dated, solid state and modelers sound better but if you really want it they can sound the same if your guitar has a headstock you're the guitar version of someone who rides a fixed gear bicycle it's fine to play an 8 string guitar and not use all of the strings in every single song, nobody ever gave a classical composer shit for not using all 8 octaves
press down with the VERY TIP of your fingers, NOT with the pad of the finger. fair warning, this will be very uncomfortable until you build up some calluses
Jonathan Powell
is a $300 squier telecaster deluxe a good deal?
Julian Harris
nope
Levi Jenkins
ok thanks
Ryan Carter
tell him $150 or go fuck himself
Eli Russell
are any squier telecasters above $300 worth it? i’ve only played acoustic and am looking for my first electric and don’t know what direction to go
Thomas Hernandez
I have the Excel DC and I love it. I've also sat down with the Premier model in music stores and they play and sound really nice. I'd go with the D'Angelico over an Epiphone or Ibanez copy.
I moved all my houseplants to the same room and set out some bowls of water and I can't break 37%
Is my guitar going to die or can I just adjust the truss rod
Samuel Jackson
I think they're 10s. I don't actually change em unless they break and mine haven't broken since I got it so yeah also it's a 12 string so I don't know if they would put a different gauge on that out of the box now that I think about it, I don't actually put much thought into string gauge at all unless my high e keeps breaking all I know is that flats >>> rounds erry time /blog
we can but it's hard to transcribe traditional sheets to a guitar until you've been playing for a while because all the fucking duplication across the fretboard and fingering efficiency concerns
Ayden Jones
fucking fags
Hudson Gomez
user you know humidity doesnt really matter that much right?
Zachary Rivera
I know a guy who had his guitar break from dry air
i'm flying over to anyone willing to give me a place to sleep, play guitar and food
thanks my dear
get one of those bags of hot water my dear
Liam Hall
for once, an enlightened opinion in this garbage pile of guitar obscurantism
Jason Kelly
If my apartment wasn’t so small I’d let you stay with me and then we could finally form our band
Robert Lee
while hollowbodies are pretty based, this one looks like a derp and and I certainly wouldn't get it
Ryan Diaz
i ccan sleep on he lfoor
Parker Martin
looks very nice, I like the materials that aren't glossy
Wyatt Thomas
car factory?
Adrian Garcia
Jcum publicly humiliates himself.
Blake Walker
just install a good nut and have it professionally cut by someone that knows what they're doing. traditional headstocks need it. people only use them for looks, really.
Cooper Miller
this is true, but Sammy put his reputation on the line to defeat jcum before all of /gg/, permanently wounding jcum's fragile ego
Hunter Hall
I live in a Tokyo sized apartment, there’s barely a floor :(
It’s actually not bad if you live by yourself. I live pretty minimally anyways, the only thing I have excess of is music equipment but that’s stored at my practice spot or under my bed :)
Nathaniel Bennett
walking bassline + chords at the same time
Adam Brown
All the time mi amigo. >imagine shitposting for free >he does it for free
Angel Gomez
This real guys life must be sad. Thats like a childrens toy because its all he can afford and some asshole here larps as him. Thats pretty messed up.
