Because it helps develop a sense of rhythm and timing if done correctly. It also helps an understanding of scales and modes and phrasing if you use them. I went to a music store and manhandled the bb734a and it was pretty terrific, especially because you can switch between active and passive pickups so I Reccomend that highly albeit more expensive than the ones you said. That being said, watch all the videos on those basses and try them out for yourself before buying them as they might be totally different than the sound you actually want.
Guitar players now focus too much on jerking off rather than creating and developing, keyword developing, an actually decent song. They dont just come out of your ass. Learning bass will definetly help with making the song steady and groovier. And its fun.
