Where in my post did I say Burzum is bad?
LMAO

Honestly, wasn't going into this expecting much. When it comes to metal, i have a few bands that listen to, and stick with that.
The opener is the weakest song on the album imo. It isn't a bad song, just a little boring and generic. The rest of album, however, really suprised me with how many good riffs there are. You can tell that this band isn't afraid of any elitists from the creativity found throughout.
I only started to like the vocals after the opener, but they kept growing on me from there. The songwriting was very fresh and interesting. Solid 7-8/10 from me.

Gojira is good

Honestly, that's exactly how I felt. The vocals can be a bit to cope with at the first listen. I got a vinyl of their previous album, Earth Suck, for my buddy and he said that the vocals are listed as "Angry Voice" in the personnel section lol.
In any case, I agree. The opener builds up well but then just sort of goes, but it leads into the rest of the album which sounds very sure of itself.
What was your favorite track? Mine is a toss up between Diver and Mercury in Retrograde Virus.
Their debut album is alright and Earth Suck is also good, albeit less heavy of the psycheldics than Whatever Forever.
Plus their album art is usually top tier.

Thanks for humoring me, user. I really appreciate it. Glad you liked it! Cheers

>Gateways to Annihilation

first album cover I ever encountered in the form of a poster, in a poster/memorabilia store. It was probably recent too at that time. I always thought the title was the most badass metal album name ever.

Some guy in here told me that it's Azagthoth's/MA's guitar shtick to sound like they are playing the record backwards and somebody told me that that's what they do in Immortal Rites, but they also repeat it in the Thy Kingdom COme demo. Additionally, it wouldn't be feasible or even imaginable to write music that you couldn't replicate live.

Welcome to Yea Forums newbie

Well I'm sort of like you, in the sense that I usually just stick to a handful of metal bands.
But recently I was let onto this guy, That 1 Guy. I wouldn't say it's metal but it certainly can get really groovy at times.
The shtick is that he invented his own instrument because he felt limited by his upright bass.
He makes music like nothing I have really ever heard, short of maybe Primus mixed with Tom Waits. I believe he has also opened for Buckethead a few times.
His sense of humor is also golden.

A bit different than what we have already discussed but if you are looking for more music in general, not just more metal, this is definitely an underrated gem.

Answer me this question fellow /metal/heads, how come metal has outlasted all other rock music subgenres, or done so well in comparison? All other forms of rock music are either dead or dying it seems to me

the power of autism t b h

Shut up

Based sepulchral riffsposter

That's fucking awesome, I play the upright bass! Never heard of him before, thanks!

Rock developed for ~20 years, peaked in the 70s/early 80s creatively, and was squeezed for the last drops of pop viability in the early 2000s. Metal peaked in the 90s/early 2000s creatively (at that same ~20 year mark) and will probably follow the exact same trend.

How new to metal are you
One of the most popular metal websites is called “metal sucks” for a reason
This general is full of a wide variety of different tastes

My tastes are all over the place. The only real constant is Metallica for some reason. Right now I've been listening to a lot of free jazz and post-rock. Favorite artists, honestly I don't even have favorite artists anymore. You?

youtube.com/watch?v=IaG6dABJyJ8

Nice, Metallica (as cringy as they can be) is what got me into metal so many years ago. Their first three (maybe four lmao) albums are excellent. Recently got Ride the Lightning on vinyl and I have been blasting the hell out of it.
What are some good post rock acts to check out?

In terms of metal, my usual listens are Primus, Burzum, Metallica, and Electric Wizard.
But I'm really into Pink Floyd too, probably my favorite band of all time. Tbh recently got into Yes as well and I can't believe I have never heard this shit before. Close to the Edge / Fragile are monumental albums.

Ride the Lightning was my first album on vinyl, SO sick.

If you don't know the Yea Forums meme post-rock band, Godspeed You! Black Emperor is good, especially F#A#Infinity and Lift Your Skinny Fists. The album Enter by Russian Circles is also good, specifically Death Rides a Horse. They're somewhere between post-rock and post-metal. Tertia by Caspian is fantastic

All great bands, especially Floyd. Listened to TPATGOD for the first time today, such a good listen.

I BIND UNTO MYSELF

It's less appealing to the mainstream, which has allowed it to avoid the stagnation that occurs when bands try to appeal to a wider audience. This also allows metal bands lots of room to experiment and still be successful within the genre.

I forgot to ask, how do you rate your top three Floyd albums?

But the album is SO sick bro. I don't understand. Have you not listened to Metallica or something? It's a Metallica fan thing homie B)

sounds like hip hop

Who was the girl in the cloak running from Messiah in the music video? She’s kinda cute

Don't listen to Floyd enough to not get flamed, but probably: Piper, The Wall, and then DSOTM. You?

What’s some dumb shit you thought when you were first getting into metal?
I thought def leppard were American and Metallica were British

Thanks anons

I thought David Lee Roth was the lead singer of Led Zeppelin

I used to think Black Sabbath was from the 40's or 50's, needless to say i was pretty retarded

>in an alternative universe one of the Elvis's early inspirations was Black Sabbath

Favourite black sabbath album, I wanna listen to more of their music but don’t know which album to listen to. Any suggestions?

Eh, I've found that people will argue about their best albums to the end of time. It's all just personal preference because they're all so good.
Mine are Wish You Were Here, Dark Side of the Moon, and Obscured by Clouds.
But you could really put any album, in any position, and someone will be there to tell you that you are either a patrician or pleb
Or tourist lmao.

Anyway, I'm about to nod off so I'll sign out of my Yea Forums account here. Thanks for the chat and the recommendations, user!
Best /metal/ in a long time.

that actually sounds interesting

Listen to Born Again or Heaven and Hell, seriously they're pretty good

The Ascent is b&w
But most definitely is kino

have you tried Dio era Sabbath yet? if not then try Heaven and Hell

Thanks to you too!

Mob Rules is the best Dio era Sabbath album

now you're thinking with portals

In what universe? because it certainly isn't this one

Opinions on Stoner metal? Example here: youtube.com/watch?v=PCDcm-BNiFs I would like to find more around the genre but I have yet to find anything that I enjoy as much as Sleep

Ignoring all söyposting listen to Electric Wizard for the riffage

DUDE

Shit you're right, could have sworn that was Anatoly Solonitsyn

OM - God is Good

You guys were cute I wish I could make meaningful connections with people

Dude weed lmao

Heaven and Hell is great but Mob Rules is objectively the best one, Heaven and Hell is probably 2nd though

I wish I had never seen that picture

I have listened to OM already as its the bassist from Sleep. Pretty good

GOOD LORD THANK YOU MY DUDE

Here is your you, Saor sucks. Get better at atmoblack.

that album sounds super boring
I prefer euro stoner
youtube.com/watch?v=htREEIwG4yI

or i am from the south

I definitely see the resemblance, had me second guessing myself for a second

top tier Polish band
youtu.be/k9LgYzrtgx0?t=72

I mean, euro stoner sound, not stoner made in europe

electric wizard is not a metal band, stop calling them metal

Pretty neat desu but I would like to see Sleep live. The guitarists rig is just a wall of Orange cabs

kek

I used to get Watain and Arcturus confused for a while (as well as other pairs of artists confused with each other e.g. Incantation and Vital Remains).

I kept thinking Led Zeppelin were American.

I used to think the reason Watain threads are banned on NWN! was because the people there loved Watain too much and were making too many threads about how they liked them.

I used to think Houde-era Kataklysm's lyrics and logo were completely original and 100% devised by Houde himself (not taken or inspired from other media).

I used to think/sometimes thought the song "Necropolis" on Vader's Tibi Et Igni was a cover song.

missed opportunity not to call that image Eternal Nightmare.

Cathedral's first album is some of the best shit ever, but I've yet to hear anything like it

or Nexus of Teeth

why does metal have to have such a weird cringy aesthetic all the time? the paint and the outfits are just embarrassingly bad and take away from the awesome music for me

For some reason I thought for a while that Vader formed as a Judas Priest cover band at first.

Stoned Jesus - Black Woods

just close your eyes nigga

corpse paint is cool, but I do wish metal fashion were less wigger-ish sometimes

maybe if it were run through deepart

filtered

>cringy
Blech

if you scroll up you will find a guy that referred to Primus as a metal band, i really want to believe that he is not a troll

What would be fitting aesthetic for metal in your opinion?

I thought the murders and church burnings in Norway’s were carried out by fans of black metal, I had no idea Varg even made music let alone that it was seen as a classic of the genre

just wear normal clothes desu, outfits like cowboy shit in country or hip gangster wannabe shit in hiphop are always bad

dressing up like it's halloween is childish and awful and dumb

I just see primus as redneck "metal" with a few of their songs.

Les claypool was considered to be in metallica in the past lmao

>I thought the murders and church burnings in Norway’s were carried out by fans of black metal
but they were

>JUST BE NORMAL
yeah very fitting aesthetic for metal

yep

Yeah, this look is so entertaining

Attached: nativeconstruct-740x494.jpg (740x494, 86K)

looking like normal dudes instead of adults dressed to go trick or treating, good deal

At least black metal backed up its edge.

Attached: churchburning.jpg (480x360, 12K)

When I think of metal, I think of these guys

Attached: 9biaxRw.jpg (2448x3264, 721K)

I didn’t think any of them made music or that Norway even had a metal scene
I was 13 and mostly listened to iron maiden and was just picking buts up from edgelord comments on old Internet forums

>just wear normal clothes desu
it's the opposite, I think metalheads clothes are not original enough

Attached: serveimage (1).gif (280x210, 39K)

the guy in the center should really be at the back

fuck off retard
not everything has to be homogenized to appeal to your estrogen infused tastes

Yeah all that edgy shit kind of had to happen otherwise they would’ve been a total joke

What the fuck would you call them
Srs, listen to My Name Is Mud or even any of Pork Soda and tell me that shit isn't a subgenre of metal

>Bible Black
Uhhhh I just googled this??????!

Yeah, it's always leather and spiky vambraces.

He is the one that looks with more confidence

hard rock

Only black is real

Attached: Evilfeast.jpg (400x400, 18K)

Dude, this shit is fucking awesome. Thanks for the recc

funk rock

Yeah but you see metal has a sense of spectacle, and, for example, leather and spikes give off a sense of that. Even then, plenty of thrash and death metal bands wear just shirts and jeans with sneakers and still look cool.

What do you think metalheada should wear user?
If it were more extreme and flamboyant it would just be goth

Attached: 9BA8D1A3-F3C5-4A28-BACE-DA0E7341E48A.jpg (448x683, 164K)

"no"

I think his confidence is fake.

Did you get vintage classic hentai instead user

Funk METAL
:^)

maybe breeches

Attached: 18th_century_breeches___front_by_goldenspring.jpg (600x979, 181K)

obligatory

Attached: Testament-throwback-800x450.jpg (800x450, 87K)

Yes, it's a shame I already masturabted to girls pretending to be boys pretending to be girls fifteen minutes ago

Type O Negative just wore jeans and a t shirt and they all looked cool but they also made a point of being ripped so they looked good on stage

Pirate metal fan?

greatest american thrash band

>What do you think metalheada should wear user?
something artistically original, with some thought applied to it. Something that has its origin in your own experience. Something that steers up emotions other than stale "hey, it's that metal guy, he likes metal".
not another bullet belt heavy metal/punk costume party.

>not having enough testosterone to masturbate multiple times in a row
heh

but it is not black metal

Peter Steele looked pretty badass when he wore spikes and all that other good stuff

Attached: Carnivore.jpg (736x515, 87K)

*stirs up

I think metal should take a primal nature to heart, and wear experimental practical clothing. I heard somewhere that breeches are comfortable and serve their purpose well.

dude looked like a fucking Castlevania character, he could dress up like the fags from Versailles and still make it look good

I watched a few videos of peter steele and he just joked about a lot and considering his physique it just makes it even funnier. Then theres the video of him literally ripping the strings out of his bass at a live show

how about like Imperial Triumphant's masks?

or some other distinct/unique costume or parts of a costume. I'm thinking like how Attila was/is known for wearing a variety of unique costumes.

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 105K)

Hm but kind of outfit would that translate to ?

Is it possible to learn this power?

Attached: Is+it+possible+to+learn+this+power+_8bd25472fae5c79b7962457f9d4ce406.jpg (480x360, 20K)

not from a redditor

If you stop watching porn and don’t masturbate for a bit you should be able to

it's obviously better when they create their own costumes that look cool. but I also feel like there can be more nonchalant fuck all kind of attitude. when they're aware that they are a fucking rock band, you know what I mean
youtube.com/watch?v=Ubryx5b5awo

couldn't tell the difference between iron maiden and hard rock

what's the deal with Watain? It's one of those bands for me, where you read abvout them and have known about them most of your life but never listened to them.

I love you user

T-thanks

I thought hammerfall's cover of rising force was original.

I thought Emotive by A Perfect Circle was all original songs and not covers

if you're referring to on nwn, everytime Watain gets brought up it starts a shitstorm because most people hate the band but a vocal minority love them

melodeath sucks

I absolutely love wish you were here. Mine personally would be wish you were here, animals and the wall

Will there be any new Deafheaven tracks this year?

Like it or not, but Slipknot was a defining band for metal. More so than your obscure and irrelevant black metal noise. Calling them anything but prodigal, and I mean this unironically, is being tunnel visioned to an extreme.

Hopefully there won't be any new tracks ever

Nah. They broke up after the band members were discovered to be cheating on each other, with each other.

What did they even do for metal?
Contribute to a subgenre that no one gives a fuck about anymore?

...

I have no idea. See, you want it to exist already, yet I don't know what it may be, and I don't want to strengthen this ready-made culture of spectators and "good managers" who will feed me prefabricated packages of entertainment. Everyone just says "really, what do you mean? show it to me right now!"

Ulcerate pulls this off the best

I didn't know effect pedals and amp gain were a thing, I thought all tone came from the guitar itself, and metal guitarists had some special kind of guitar that made them sound the way they do.

:D
