well so basicly i wanna self teach accoustic guitar, ialready had one hanging around and i really wanna learn how to play the guitar not only a few songs, i wanted to ask if someone in Yea Forums could give me tips and where to start because i really dont know where to start
Self Teaching Guitar
you need to sell your soul, i'd advise not to however
Ok tip 1, the guy in the picture is an idiot and is holding the guitar upside down, so turn it the other way and ull be good
At the beginning barre chords will seem impossible so make sure to put vaseline or lube on your left hand to make it easier. As you get better you can slowly put on less.
OP i did this too, heres my advise
>learn some basic chords
>find songs you like, learn to play them
>do this every day
that's it. i've been playing for 2-3 months now and can feel myself getting a lot better. you just gotta do it every day. even if its just to pick up and play some random chords
literally learn how to play C chord, G chord, and D chord and you've mastered all modern music.
basicly learn while i play?
Honestly, the best advice you're gonna get is: practice, practice, practice. It's all about input. Focus on building your repertoire at first, while ironing in the core techniques at the same time.
You'll slowly find yourself wanting to learn more and more complicated songs, until the challenge itself becomes half the fun.
ye but where do i start?
If only there was a running general about playing guitar.
yes. dont waste your time with youtube beginner lessons or anything like that. just keep playing, keep trying new songs, keep trying new things. push yourself and just keep playing. learn the intro + solo to wish you were here, i did that when i first started and it really helped just get some basic finger work in.
get a teacher unless you just want to play easy crap.
You're all going to make it.
so yo saying self teaching is shit and impossible to play well after?
Play music you like. Look up "beginner guitar songs" on Google. Buy a song book with both tab and musical notation.
I don't recommend starting with music theory because it can take all the fun out at the very beginning. That's more advanced beginner/intermediate stuff.
I disagree, you just have to be very strict with yourself. Most self taught won't analyse their technique much.
Oh, but when you're learning a song, it's absolutely critical that you finish learning the song before moving onto another one, and make sure you can play it at least most of the way through without too many mistakes.
Working out the kinks of your individual performances is how you improve your overall playing level.
Bump
Yeah, that can be a big downside to self teaching. It can help if you record yourself playing and watch or listen to it back afterwards. It'll be a lot easier to spot where you're struggling that way.
so mastering it before switching?
any music you recommend?
a million times this
Pretty much, yup
I play classical guitar, but greensleeves is an easy enough.
The first song I learned on electric was House of the Rising Sun, by The Animals. That was a lot of fun to learn as a beginner.
holy shit music sounds fucking amazing
this desu. if you don't want to take lessons this is the easiest way to self-learn guitar. start with the standard cowboy chords (G, C, D, Em, etc.) and work up to barre chords (F, Bm, F#m, etc.).
look up music that you already know so that playing it is easier. i taught myself when i was 13ish and the first songs i learned were wish you were here and into the aeroplane over the sea. the hardest part is getting used to the calluses.
