Post challenging listens
You first.
Legit Question: How do you know whether something is a "challenging listen", or if you're just forcing yourself to "appreciate" something just because it's technically impressive?
I listen to music for enjoyment, so I feel like although some albums grow on you and are for challenging listens, I'm not gonna force myself to listen to something just because it's revered/impressive.
That's not a challenging listen.
It took me about 5 listens to get into Kala, maybe that's why I found it challenging. Here's another one (not particularly good, but very hard to listen)
You guys are retards if this is challenging
>5 listens
Why would you do this to yourself? I give albums two listens before I decide, but five? Play anything enough and you'll start to like it...jeez.
if something is challenging to listen to then it's shit
Thanks uwu
I mean, if I want to evaluate something propperly, I have to give attention and time to the project and get to know it.
This. Stop trying to force yourself to like music that's considered "good" and just form your own opinions, lol.
It doesn't work like that, but ok
Very scary, reminds me of Geogaddi.
Then how does it work?
To me, you give repeated listens because on the first one (or maybe the second) you aren't ready, therefore you can be shocked easily. There are albums that give you everything they can on first listen ("Lush", by Snail Mail) and then get very boring and unpleasant. On the other hand, there are albums that at first may sound awful but then you start appreciating more and more. You give something more and more listens so you can take a look to all the detail put in it, to some production problems and stuff like that. To give an elaborate evaluation of any piece of art you have to take your time.
With that said:
An album constantly good > An album that keeps getting better > An album that relies on shock factor so you like it early on and then gets worse and worse > An album awful on first listen but that you were right about. Still, everybody has their methods.
I was planning listening to pic related. I like the tracks I've heard so far, so I'm excited.
When do you just stop and go "maybe this album isn't for me, and it's okay for me to not think it's good"?
Why not listen to an album 50 times...maybe that 49th time, something will click!
best album itt
If after 4 listen anything has changed, then I know that album wasn't for me. But if I start seeing something, I'll listen to it again. With Solange's latest record, I stopped in the third listen, because I felt like I wasn't getting anything out of it and like it doesn't suit my taste.
Bump
I'm on my third listen and holy fuck OP.... you are an idiot if you didn't get it in the second one
this is just bad, not "challenging"
