Gibsons are overrated shitplanks that are only popular because some famous people in the mid 20th century used them
Fender makes superior guitars over all and every other custom/boutique shop worth its salt just makes fender clones and derivatives for a reason
Sebastian Morris
Well would you look at that, an anime thread. Now I'm motivated to have a laidback, late night practice session. Thanks OP
Brayden Williams
Your favorite solo sounds like something I would hear in an elevator or in CVS.
John Wilson
The les paul is so much "the TV guitar" that it even shows up in anime. It's because it looks like a traditional acoustic instead of an edgy rock and roll axe.
If a strat is an AR-15 a gibson is a mini-14, people just don't think it's threatening or edgy so they like it more even if the strat is better and cheaper.
>you've got your dream gig >you've replaced a legend in a major label act >your first gig is going to be televised >you've been told to look authoritative, competent and credible, like someone with the rock cred to play with rock gods >the lights come on and the crowd gets their first impression of this famous band's new guitarist >you're not wearing a Gibson
I have Dimarzio Evolution 7 pickups in the bridge position of my 7 string. As time has gone on ,they seem to become noisier and noisier, and now it's just too much. What do you guys think the cause of this could be? I had the electronics checked when I had it set up like 6 months ago, guys said it was fine. Even with really low gain I still get a lot of noise. Any ideas, friends?
Maybe: 1. A ground wire is coming loose somewhere in the guitar. 2. The wax potting has melted away (this actually happened to me with a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates). 3. The noise is actually coming from somewhere else in the signal chain.
Jordan Allen
How do I go about checking the first 2? I've been going through signal chain and trying to remove the noise with things like a grounded power strip. I'll get a ground loop reduction thingee to put into the wall later on.
What do you do about wax potting melting away? Do you have to buy another or re-solder?
1. Look in the control cavity for the grounding wire and see if it is loose. Touch stuff inside the control cavity while the guitar is plugged in and see if touching something makes it go away. 2. I thought the pickup needed to be repotted because it felt oily. And I was living in a very humid apartment at the time. I repotted the pickup using a deep fat fryer I found at a thrift store. stewmac.com/How-To/Online_Resources/Learn_About_Guitar_Pickups_and_Electronics_and_Wiring/Wax_potting_pickups.html
This is the worst general on Yea Forums. Even worse than KPOP. Literally just never ending gear worship. Everything that’s terrible about guitarists distilled into one horrible thread after another.
Oliver Reed
Why are you so mean? If you don't like it, just filter it out.
Nathaniel Gomez
Gear is half the fun.
What do flutists talk about when they're not practicing? No, they don't practice more instead. If they did there would be fewer godawful flutists in the world. They talk about flower arrangement or something. That's just how people be.
God help you if you ever stumble upon a drum general.
Nathan Reed
Thank you. I'll admit that I don't feel confident messing with the pots at all. I can check the wire at least, hopefully without taking off my strings and such? In any case I can probably get the guys that checked my electronics to help.
Mason Wright
that was the cheapest bait in the shop and you guppies gulped it right up
Charles Kelly
I saw an opportunity to rag on flute players and i took it.
Jazzmaster, Jaguar, and Soloist are top tier Stratocaster is good tier The rest are shit tier. (If there was a 335 shape, that would also be top tier).
A nigga called Sammy A fool called Sammy Acted like a tool and barebacked a tranny A nigga called Sammy A fag called Sammy Barebacked a tranny now AID's not funny
I stick to the instruments that have a resale value
Michael Mitchell
well i stick to instruments that i will want to keep lmao.
Robert Brooks
why? you plan to live forever? you don't want kids? have friends? you selfish? outright?
fuck your tongue with a staple to the roof. Hope it pierces your nasal cavity you fuck.
but i digress.
what i mean's,
i buy things with 'value' not just 'existence'
there is gibson there is fender fender makes the bassman, okay child?
Landon Richardson
i plan to play guitar forever, yeah man up, fag
Zachary White
You bedroom warriors are a hilarious lot, watching you flail about trying to polish turds into diamonds. If a diamond is what you wanted why didn't you just go out and buy a diamond to begin with?
it does. it's an upwards run that ends on that D triad doublestop bend. perhaps you're refferring to the part where the D bend is interrupted by the A bend after it?
i love electric but it takes time to produce a fullband cover.
I'm just curious what program automatically attaches a new hashed filename every time you post an image, seems kind of overkill from a security standpoint. I wouldn't be interested in hashing filenames but it could be useful for other stuff depending on how flexible the program is.
since they make HH telecasters, am I dumb for wanting to get one set up with METAL sounding seymour duncans? i like the body style and control layout, it's comfier to hold than a superstrat
How good are seagull guitars? I like that they're all made in Canada, but how do they compare to some other stuff? A used one showed up on my local craigslist page, but the model number that the guy shared doesn't bring anything up when I search it. All I can tell is that it is a model that is from either the late 80s or early 90s.
right. Well if you think it sounds alright then that's great
Levi Sanchez
I'm looking for an overdrive to slap on after my fuzz I want that Desert Rock tones.
Blake Parker
timmy
Brayden Martin
What kinda strings would you recommend to get a bright summery tone?
David Martinez
ghs boomers bright bronze
Dylan Walker
Thank you for the speedy reply. My fuzz is hella scooped muff btw and I thought Timmy sounded best going into more midrange focused pedals but I will definitely look into this. Are the LM1458 Timmy's better than JRC4559 chip ones?
Angel Rodriguez
yes the pickups arent no-lows shit, wanna hear the clean DI track and get shut up?
but i want it to sound good for you too :) will post a boosted lows soon. it seems every time i boost the lows it drowns all the other instruments
Robert Cooper
Not him. Timmys are tone neutral. If you want more mids out of them, that's what the midrange control on your amp is for.
Angel Morris
Or, alternately, an EQ pedal. Anyways, I think the utility range of a tone-neutral overdrive is quite vast. It's such a fucking useful thing to have in so many circumstances.
Kayden Richardson
Sometimes you make me feel really bad, Samuel. youtube.com/watch?v=aRdcptG365I I think about this girl at 1:45 all the time. I think about you too. The human condition is as much suffering as it is giddy cruelty there's no opting out of. I don't have the right to tell you to hide yourself from the world but I can tell you the world is objectively worse with you in it.
Being aware of your existence makes my heart hurt.
my coworker mentioned kaka the other day. he was selling a gibson to an old man and the old man was asking about how he should best maintain the guitar. my coworker said that he squirts out assload after assload of assy shartlogs and rubs them all over the fretboard to get that caked in kaka playability.
he also said that he has a hollowbody at home that he specifically bought in order to hide his ploppy shits in. I'm considering shitting inside of a grocery bag and then cramming the kaka into my output jack.
there are many ways to incorporate smelly kaka into your guitar playing.
Why do you need a capo? Just use your index finger bro.
Elijah Foster
learn how to barre you pussy
Angel Stewart
i ate your mums barre pussy last night lmao
Dominic Campbell
just keep it by your computer and randomly play things as you shitpost play things as you play video games and the loading screen is loading
Landon Watson
how likely is it i'll permanently fuck up a bolt-on by shimming the neck?
Austin Sanchez
i've literally been playing guitar for over 10 years and i've never heard of this "shimming the neck" thing
can you please explain?
Zachary Turner
it is removing the neck and adding a thin disc or something to raise the height of the neck where it's bolted on
Jackson Cooper
and what are you trying to achieve here? what's the goal?
Lincoln Wood
having reached the limits of his body he gave it over to the frost to free him and become the zimakov of the mind youtube.com/watch?v=ltgSpjHvIyU

this is usually done when the action is way too high, even after lowering the bridge as far as you can
Joshua Cook
what about adjusting the truss rod? it's seems like a very dramatic procedure
have you tried a proper setup by a tech/luthier? it should only be about 40 USD if you if you have a fixed bridge. i'm not even trying to be condescending or anything, just trying to help
Shimming isn't dramatic, many companies even do it at the factory. It's done when your neck is straight but you still can't get the right angle.
Gabriel Robinson
>10 strings >fanned frets >shit color >PuPs way too close to each other >5k kys my man
Lucas Cruz
You forgot >headstock looks like a bell-end
Xavier Wilson
is there a point of buying a large cumbersome amplifier when you can use superb software amps, apart from a slightly more natural touch when recording a real speaker with a real mic that also registers some room ambiance?
Lincoln Morris
the head stock is the most tolerable thing about that abortion.
Juan Flores
Yes. Computers are fiddly quiet bullshit, amps just werk.
Noah Howard
I think that might be the point, user.
Lucas Cox
>is there a point of buying a large cumbersome amplifier yea if you actually want to be taken seriously as a musician in the real world
the kemper meme is for bedroom musicians mostly
Ethan Ward
Alas, plebeians. This is above your impaired æsthetical sense.
Isaiah Roberts
Nope, I wanna sell my amps apart from a smaller solid state peavey and get some kinda rack unit that just goes straight into the PA system
Ryder Ward
>the kemper meme is for bedroom musicians mostly I've seen Grammy performances with Kemper. Top pop guitar professionals use Kemper. The future is digital, get over it.
James Hill
>æsthetical but that's exactly how i can tell you're not an actual musician. only 1 of my 5 criticisms pointed at the "æsthetics" of this shit.
this guitar is great for trust-fund babbies with too much money who want to play a djent riff or two
Dominic Mitchell
>Grammy >pop oh im sorry i thought we were talking about music here. my mistake
Jackson Cox
more than 3 strings is excessive honestly, 3 voice counterpoint is plenty
Zachary Stewart
Fun fact: power amplifiers make things louder. Not rare special tube guitar amps. They only can make things dirtier. The more you know.
Michael Sanders
>caring about aesthetics
Thomas Evans
if i tighten the truss rod any further, the neck will bow backwards
Ayden Perry
4 voice counterpoint bare minimum, if you can't improvise a fugue in 4 voices at any given time you're never going to make it
Parker Rivera
Goddamn, either you accept their superb professionalism and discernment or you shut the hell up mr unrecognized underground genius.
Ayden Thompson
>'amp'
Don't do that.
Ayden Morris
you don't care about anything apart from hoarding shit in your bedroom
Easton Johnson
i worked up to 5 but it gets muddy all coming from the same resonating surface, 3 has a clean sound ive heard fluorocarbon strings can help with this though
Leo Martinez
I don't play "djent" or whatever, mostly bluegrass
William Hughes
tube amp tone will ALWAYS sound better than digital shit. you're going to have to accept this fact. kempers are fine, my buddies use them. but even THEY admit that tube amps are better for everything except traveling
Elijah Carter
Should I get a Pro Junior or get a JC 40?
Alexander Reed
>Trying to compensate this badly Your responses are bad and you should feel bad.
Hunter Flores
it was an obvious shitpost you autistic loser
Jonathan Morales
Somebody help me figure out overdrive pedals. I've been glued to software sims for five years and am only getting back into physical hardware now. Looking for something to trim off some low end on high-gain rhythms (using a VH4 pedal for dirt), besides adding a little volume and more options on upper mids.
I started out trying a Boss SD1 since they're dirt cheap, and it's doing a great classic rock thing with my bridge pickup, but that ain't really what I wanted. Should I be looking at 808/TS9 clones next, or are those similar enough that it's gonna be the same shit? Otherwise I'm gonna look at OCD clones or something like the TC Spark.
>tube amp tone will ALWAYS sound better than digital shit no it won't, as computer modelling improves, it will be able to handle a full computer model of a physical system like electron tube perfectly well in a matter of years. And those reverb/room/speaker simulations will become incredibly sophisticated pretty soon, since there's incessant digital acoustics experimentation in research facilities.
Liam Brown
boss SD1 is shit, a TS9 clone is actually what we used on our album and it fucking ripped. stick with the ibanez tubescreamers, they're industry standard for a reason
depressedfags do not belong on this general. please go somewhere else. we're all here because we're looking to improve ourselves, not end it
Jace Smith
Sorry about the late reply user, I just came across Walrus Audio they have some sweet overdrives I'm looking at. I heard the Mayflower was based on the Timmy. It's not on their website any longer so Reverb might be the best source to get it. I actually like their Voyager and Warhorn pedal. Might even get a War Horse for the Ratt Muff sound. Any of you familiar with Walrus pedals?
Zachary Morgan
not true and also i still play better than u shittalker faggot
Henry Sanders
lmao post vocaroo of you playing then faggot. im drunk as fuck and i gargantuan i'll shit all over you
Xavier Johnson
How long you took off from playing isn't anything to brag about you loser. Stop trying to one up people and start practicing daily
Austin Garcia
My only options for 808/TS9 clones locally are the EHX East River Drive, the Mini, and the Way Huge Rhino, otherwise I gotta mail order it. I might just grab the EHX one when I return the SD1, and order something else online if that turns out to be garbage.
Learned the basics of guitar back in high school, haven't played in a few years though. Want to get back into it and learn some Parkway Drive songs but I need to improve my technique and skill. Anybody have any good "20 minute a day" type practice lessons?
I unironically like some butt rock. I stopped listening to Alter Bridge after realizing it was buttrock, but recently have been rediscovering their stuff. Mark Tremonti is honestly pretty amazing at what he does.
Juan Evans
We are roman. Everyone and everything is roman.
Except for that faggot Samuel. He is not roman.
Logan Kelly
Restrung my Telecaster with NYXL heavy bottom, medium top strings today. I've never felt a guitar feel so fucking good before.

God damned Australians. Go shit up another thread.
Why do people say this to beginners? I'm not the guy above, but what do you think they are going to do? They don't know any chords, they can't play any notes. The only thing they are able to do is to hold it in their hands and go "oh I guess this looks kinda cool?" It's good to get a feel for the guitar just to see if you like it, but telling someone that doesn't know anything about playing to go and play the guitar is useless.
Angel Cruz
When I first started playing, I wanted an Ibanez. But, when I when to the store and held it in my hand, it just felt wrong - the neck was too thin. If I had bought a guitar without ever touching one, I would have purchased a Ibanez that would have impaired my enjoyment of playing.
James Phillips
Yes, but that isn't really playing it, you're just holding it, getting a feel for it.
Instead of telling people they need to play the guitar, tell them they should see it in person, hold it, feel it etc, because that's really what the important thing is. Strumming idly on the strings without any direction probably isn't going to help them with a decision.
Isaac Cooper
Because that's how you know the guitar works in the first place.
Daniel Richardson
I'm going to guess you are 14?
Ian Sullivan
How’s your wife’s boyfriend lmfao
Blake Cook
Just someone that got the same stupid advice to "play" the guitar, went into a store wondering what the fuck I am supposed to do and if I'm expected to know chords and songs before even owning the instrument. I ended up leaving the store after a short while because (at the time) it wasn't really obvious to me how important it was that I like the "feel" of the guitar, the looks and all of that. I knew nothing about guitars at the time, and strumming the strings told me absolutely nothing other than "I guess this makes sound".
I eventually went to another store where staff were helpful and were able to give advice and kind of figure out what type of sound/guitar I'm after. I just think it's important that you instruct new people correctly.
It looks cool. Which Seymour Duncan is in the bridge?
Isaac Martin
What model is this? I wouldn't trust Asian made instruments especially when you can buy American. Radiation is also a concern from a made in Japanese guitar.
