The latest Satyricon album. I didn't care for it back when it came out, but looking back and relistening to it it's really a solid record.

Satyricon is one of the few Norwegian bands I just couldn't get into. Dark medieval Times was okay, but the rest of what I heard just wasn't interesting. I should probably give that album a listen though. It's interesting to see how the old fucks from the original 2nd scene develop through the years.

It's not embarrassing like latter day Mayhem, but it's really, really bland. Modern Satyricon somehow manages to make "rocking" black metal that neither rocks nor feels anything like black metal. it's like a black hole of inspiration and passion.
I'm curious why you couldn't get into Nemesis Riffina. It's the perfect "professional" BM release in my mind, huge and polished without losing any of that brackish organic feel and atmosphere the genre needs, and the songwriting still feels unpredictable even after all these years

It sucks Striborg has just about disowned his black metal past. A Procession of Lost Souls was a good album that shows he still is capable of making worthwhile black metal. But the "blackwave" stuff he's been up to recently is just so mediocre. Most of it sounds like it was completely created on Garageband.
