Pretty much. Hella is an obvious example, but i prefer his solo material. Other notable bands include lighting bolt, most, if not all, midwest emo bands, battles, polvo, and don cab.

Fred Firth is the godfather of most of modern experimental rock. It’s crazy if you think about just how much he has done for the avant-garde music

Fred wasn’t as pretentious and that’s a win in my book. A lot of his stuff is extremely complicated and sophisticated, but it’s still very humorous and entertaining. Still love frippster though, he is responsible for some of the most beautiful rock pieces of 20th century

where is the line drawn between math rock and emo with odd time signatures tho? I’m not a huge fan of the idea that anything that isn’t in 4/4 and has slightly abnormal drumming is considered math. Doesn’t really matter I guess but it can make discussion on the genre harder because everyone has such wildly different ideas as to what the genre is

i don’t anyone agrees what actually qualifies so some will say yes and some will say no. I think the genre as a whole had been pretty stale for like 15 years tho desu. I think there really just isn’t much to have done post-Hella and this is coming from someone who LOVES the genre

Best thought i have ever had - We are losing speech as a trait in the process of evolution, the people in the 90s had to be more expressive to communicate thier feelings, ( this is how the acting in movie is done) maybe that wasnt just acting, it would have been the real behavious of the people at that time. Now we are less expressive, we have started to communicate our expressions more silently than expressovely [this can be seen from acting of our times movies]. Also people are using cell phones more. I guess in evolution speech takes a lot of energy, so one day we might communicate with nothing but our facial expressions to communicate. Also vision would be better in different conditoons to communicate, we want camers to see us more this may
becuase it will help us on keeping a watch over us at all times, rather than having sound(energy inefficent) we have just vision to communicate through the camera to save us from dieing.
