The 10's are coming to an end. What are some of your favourite albums of the last decade?
Albums of the decade?
yung lean - unknown death 2002
retard
for me it's between this, To Pimp a Butterfly, and pic related
the only correct answer
Are you a 17 year old girl?
endess is better
the only correct answer
9 years into the decade and no one has topped it yet
I don’t really like a lot of the albums shilled on this board and on other websites this decade. For me, it’s either pic related or Prince Daddy & The Hyena - ITYDELL.
All my posts.
you guys are all boring as fuck
Everyone else is wrong
There's no other album with the same atmosphere as this. It's like if heaven was a metropolis
Blond has to be one of the most emotionally dishonest """sad""" albums I've ever heard in my entire life. How the fuck can a rich musician be as incredibly whiny as he is on this album? Furthermore anyone who shit on Lil Peep or XXX for glamourizing, sexing up, and aestheticizing depression can make absolutely zero excuses for Frank who does the exact same thing to an equal or greater degree.
This shit fucking sucks.
beat me to it
To think you have a point, except Franks music is like 10x more polished and emotionally balanced. It’s not all about pain. What, am I suppose to give you kudos because you are either depressed or dead??
Kys
not even their best, but still a contender. beach house made the best music of the 2010's. hope they keep it up in the 2020's, cause 7 might be their best album to date
>not even their best
Maybe to your ears. To mine, DC is it
i'm not a huge fan of blonde but if anything you are being dishonest. blonde isn't even just a "sad" album. he showcases a variety of feelings on the album. first half is actually pretty happy at times. it has way more layers to it than anything peep or xxx ever created. if you don't like wealthy musicians singing about being sad then >90% of the music Yea Forums discusses isn't for you. i also don't see how he's gamourizing depression except if you call any music that talks about depression glamourizing it. what exactly about his music is glamourizing it? depression isn't even that much part of his image unlike xxx or peep who made it their entire personality, so in no way would he glamourize it to a greater degree than them.
one of their better albums
Yes he showcases a "variety of feelings" but in most of the songs he is singing primarily about being dejected by a lover, feeling nostalgic/reminiscing, or seeking escape in drugs. That's literally what the vast majority of the songs are about, and it's no deeper than that. Furthermore, while I agree that xxx was for the most part one dimensional, and I don't like him at all, he still had some upbeat hype tracks, which gives him at least about as much variety as frank showcases (even if the music isn't as good). Peep touches on multiple themes on some of his project and has at least as many "layers" as what frank said. Either way this is all pretty much bullshit because NONE of their music is really that deep. But don't put frank on a pedestal, I bet you couldnt show me a single song off blonde that showcases significant emotional depth. And I am fine with wealthy musicians singing about being sad most of the time, but for Frank, it's just so whiny, he does this pseudo-braggadocios thing sometimes where he talks about how glamorous his life is, imagery of nice cars and parties and drugs, and then will sing about being sad. It just sounds like anthems for "depressed" instagram trust funders to me. I love lots of sad music by rich musicians for example pic related which is prob my AOTD, but for me it just feels a lot more honest and less played up for a fashion aesthetic, which is what frank does most of the time.
na dis
>don't put frank on a pedestal
my first sentence was literally that i'm not a huge fan of blonde. still i can acknowledge that blonde is a much more layered album than anything xxx and peep have done. to me blonde was less about depression but rather just about pain, sadness and ups and downs... normal human emotions that everybody has at some point in life. that's two different things. meanwhile almost every xxx or peep songs references suicide and being mentally ill. what i'd like to know is some examples where and how he is glamourizing depression. because to me he always seems to act like a pretty normal guy who's not overacting anything. when i look at pictures of frank or interviews he act and talks like a regular guy, while peep always looked high on four drugs and one bad news away from hanging himself.
This is why people hate "muh lyrics" posters. If the only thing you got from the whole album is that you were a bit annoyed by his lyrics then there's nothing to say.
Nikes is played at a lethargic slow pace and he sings in a sad melody, the second verse is literally just him describing a party lifestyle taking drugs, how everything looks when he's on drugs, and then, "We're not in love but I'll make love to you," here he goes, talking about empty sex... cmon, now you're being dishonest if this is not an extremely glamorous sad song, perhaps not outright depressed but look at fucking pic related, obviously he feeds into the image, and most of his songs contain extremely glamorous instagram model party lifestyle imagery mixed with tumblr boy self-diagnosed sadness
Eh well the music itself is fine, pretty good in fact, not exactly life changing as most people seem to believe but it's pretty above average for the style. The lyrics do annoy me a lot though, and I don't think that's a worthless critique, a significant part of songwriting itself is lyrics, they are the only linguistic element of music so obviously they are going to have a nice bit of importance when analyzing the meaning of music. Being annoyed by lyrics isn't "nothing to say," it's a totally valid criticism.
fucking lol, this is the example you come up with? "signs in a sad melody", "describing a party lifestyle taking drugs", "empty sex". woah revolting! if that to you means glamourizing depression then you can't be helped. honestly.
>a Reddit post with two upvotes
Not really sure what you're getting at here. People will find a way to reach out and relate to all sorts of music, even if the content of the music doesn't seem to warrant it from your or my own viewpoint. The emotional response one gets from music is very much subjective.
Blonde, Age of Adz, & Yeezus are the clear choices
one upvote actually since it's already at 1 when you post something yourself. meanwhile it has 11 comments. kinda means people did not really agree with this shit. and that reddit post is still less about glamourizing it but rather just about relating to him. results of glamourizing are when your 14 year old fans start acting depressed, "joking" about being suicidal, wanting to take drugs as a result of peep or xxx 24/7 acting depressed as an image in a cool fashionable way. this guy just says hes depressed himself and he can relate to franks music because of that. this dudes idea of "glamourizing depression" is really wide since already "singing a sad melody" and about drugs is doing that to him.
jesus christ, do you people ever leave Yea Forums?
Space Song is a bit of a meme because of the music vid, but it's one of the songs of the decade for me, never mind all the other great tracks on Depression Cherry
Crack Up. Aviary is also up there
literally haven't heard any music I liked from this decade.
Frank ocean fags go back to your reddit
am i missing something with this album? I keep listening to it, and it doesnt really sound good to me

Yeah. This is still the correct answer.
AE is probably a popular choice, but it really did hit the nail on the head of art hip-hop. Really blew me away by my third listen
My favorites

5. Frank Ocean - Blonde
6. Deerhunter - Halycon Digest
7. Grimes - Art Angles
8. Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires Of The City
9. Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels 2

It's the best hiphop album of the decade in terms of style, flows and atmosphere, better then HTPAB and MTDBF in my opinion
A masterpiece.
Sophie is a man
Bladee - icedancer
I feel like this is gonna be the next "Lennon beats his wife"
I took a break from Yea Forums around the time this album came out when I realized people were actually gonna talk about it and I didn't want my most anticipated album in years to get ruined for me

ITT: Yea Forumscore and Fantanocore ONLY
aside from Iceage
Shit was spammed hard when it came out
still not Yea Forumscore. you don't see new fags spamming threads about how You're Nothing "finally clicked"
good album but the band members are cowards
lmfao
cellophane kicks more than metal and
thats correct
Ah they did the right thing
They’re all liberals and they realised that it could’ve impacted record deals etc if they didn’t change the name. Preoccupations is a shit band name tho
First time I've seen Hozier posted here. Good choice! What did you think of Wasteland, Baby?
but Viet Cong isn't even an offensive name. it was just a few college students protesting their shows
To southern Vietnamese it could be
It’s a bit like calling a band “the IRA”
Feel free to @ me
well done

and you all complain about r3ddit being normies lls

> It just sounds like anthems for "depressed" instagram trust funders to me.
100% hahahah. The cult around Frank's sentimentalised, whiny and affected sound is so fucken bad. Beyond its content, I fundamentally just hate how he sings.
Based, but they have different takes on depression. Lil Peep, etc are all about angsty teenage depression while Blonde is, in true RnB fashion, bland "heartbreak" songs that are considered groundbreaking because they're about men
Blonde is proof that RnB is the worst genre and is utterly incapable of being anything besides erotic cooing about tfw no gf
Laurel Halo - Quarantine
Tim Hecker - Virgins
The Knife - Shaking the Habitual
Grouper - A I A
Giles Corey - Giles Corey
Roomful of Teeth - Roomful of Teeth
Fursaxa - Mycorrhizae Realm
Gesaffelstein - Aleph
Little Scream - The Golden Record
absolutely
i'm a huge blonde fan and i was validating this guy's point and didn't thought of that, thanks i was feeling guilty
David Bowie - Black Star
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly
Tame Impala - Lonerism
Death Grips - The Money Store
Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Blonde
Money Store
Flower Boy
Currents
TPAB
also Giles Corey - Giles Corey

>i'm just a guy i'm not a god
Not to sound like a fantano drone, but it really does stop being 10/10 after monster. The context is what makes this album what it is.

It's literally posted 6 posts before yours

And I would've gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for you meddling kids.
>reading
pretty pictures only fag
That album was 2009.
The 2010s has been the worst decade for contemporary music, by far. Mostly boring EDM, shitty mumble rap, slay kween poptimism cancer shilled by soibois. And don't get me started on the absolute state of rock. That genre took a nosedive big time. Worst decade yet the narrative is that it's been one of the best ever because "muh experimentalism" (which means that songwriters and producers just got lazy and passed their lack of ambition as """""minimalism""""")
Only standout albums I can think of have been ...Like Clockwork and Reflektor and they came out within the space of a few months of one another.
>Faggot rockfag with "muh generation" disease
go listen to dark side of the moon again, music is just fine
The 2010s has been the worst decade for everything, by far.
i'd argue the 1940s were worse
I like movies from 40s
TISHKSC NFYR
the fuck does that mean?

my exact same top 2
you're a mind reader, user.
my AOTYs each year of the 2010s
I think we'll look back on this decade in hindsight and say it had a good run.
Fucking HOW?
It's just bland house
I saw Ferarro open for OPN and it was one of the worst live acts I've ever seen
i'd say swap blonde and lemonade. probably a solange album instead of rtj
fukken easy
John Scofield is a god
>Pretty disappointed with Wasteland, Baby!. Nina Cried Power EP was on the level of s/t, Shrike and NFWMB are insane. Movement was a good single. The unreleased songs on the album are mostly underwhelming. As It Was, Talk, Dinner & Diatribes, Would That I, and Sunlight are the only new songs that I liked. And I wouldn’t rate any of these 5 above the worst song on s/t. Also, I waited 5 years for this.
going for best artwork also
For me it's either this or The Seer
I know they have another album coming out in 3 weeks, but not sure if they can top this one.
Pic related came out late last year but it’s already one of my ‘10’s GOATs

First thing that came to mind when I saw the thread. Genuine fucking masterpiece.
But Devil in a New Dress comes after Monster
Here's my favorites for hip hop. For non hip hop,
Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges
Haxan Cloak - Excavation
Arca - Arca
Bjork - Vulnicura
Tim Hecker - Ravedeath 1972
Sufjan Stevens - Age of Adz
Grouper - A I A Alien Observer
Yellow Swans - Going Places
Vessel - Queen of Golden Dogs
Swans - The Seer
just off the top of my head
This and Color The Weather by suicideyear
Let's get serious for a second
It's between Yeezus, Painting With, The Age Of Adz, and Blonde for me
Age of Adz and Blonde are tied for #1 and I'd have trouble deciding
Painting With at 3rd, Yeezus at 4th, maybe Beerbongs and Bentlys at 5? I'll get flak for that but it's my favorite trap album ever.
Adjusting your pick for inflation (read: social justice points)
This is the superior album
maybe if you swallow what the musical press shoves down your throat
solid fucking pick user, great album
I'm in the minority probably but I think they just keep getting better at their craft
at least you have The National on there but man, your collection screams fantanofag
he really needs to be stopped before people start huffing his bullshit and put thank u next on their list
probably all of those except deerhunter because they're white males and I'd switch 3 to 1, also replace Vampire Weekend with some other POC or woman
unique choice
definitely on my list, underrated on Yea Forums it seems
apologizing to reactionary sycophants is not the right thing to do, it's never enough anyway
Malibu Ken was good but if it’s 2019 AOTY this year would suck
lol me too
dope
nice trips and choice
Anyone care to explain to me the significance about this album? What makes is different from other hip-hop alums?
>bland "heartbreak" songs that are considered groundbreaking because they're about men
lol based and honestpilled post
well first off its not hiphop lol
an absolute nosedive in quality and consistency
yes
socially-engineered poison
This. Probably in my top 5 albums of all time (no kidding).
Fucking love it, gonna go listen to this right now
>Golden record
Never seen this posted on Yea Forums, great record
2010- Kanye West- MBDTF
2011- Shabazz Palaces- Black Up
2012- Hanne Hukkelberg- Featherbrain
2013- Kanye West- Yeezus
2014- RTJ- RTJ2
2015- Kamasi Washington- The Epic
2016- Niechec- S/T
2017- Mount Erie- A Crow Looked at Me
2018- KSG- S/T
the first track really isn't the best representation of the whole album lol it's basically the only track that sounds like that you should listen to the full thing
easy
Listening to the album right now and I fucking knew someone had to post it in the thread! Actual god tier
>InnerSpeaker instead of Lonerism
good picks
extremely reddit but i still respect it
probably accurate
i dont love blonde as much as op (i dont even think its aoty 2016) but idk user it just *feels* sad to me. like the lyrics to white ferrari or nights or whatever people always quote aren't actually that sad but it makes me feel something because of the backing track, buildup of previous tracks, and his vocal style
good taste.
B/rp

>White Ferrari
such a good track
@(You) this is a fun album but far from the best
nah I'm good, thanks though
ZHU - generationwhy is a journey

Wanna know how i know this list is meaningless
How are your testosterone levels doing there fren
I just will never understand this opinion, I can’t think of a single bad song after monster. Every song has a great instrumental, great guest vocalists, and great flows from Kanye. Especially lost in the world and devil in a new dress
Does anyone who likes this album think its a "sad" album? half the songs are pretty upbeat.
youtube.com
still one of the hardest songs ever made
im still waiting for Ne-Yo to come out with an album as good as YotG

probably my favorite album of all time desu - definitely by listens. I'm an R&B head.
I don't how normie this album is, it's a fucking great ambient album.
What's the second from the left on the top row?
Its the one that's had the biggest impact on me personally
My actual answer is Kids See Ghosts but I'm throwing this in the ring
Hmmm, that's a tough one, OP. For me, either Daughters, TMS, The Marshall Mathers LP, and while(1
I absolutely LOVE Telepath - Another Night Together
Great to see this one getting some love in here too
New Order has never made a bad album, Republic and Sirens Call have a few weak tracks but other than that they still got it.
The Idler Wheel is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do

I need to listen to this one, I really love "Mine" but that's about all I've heard

1989
This one is great. Rarely see it mentioned around here

Think these come out on top
I haven't bothered to go back and listen to that album since the first time at release.
It's not bad but the songs didnt do much for me.
>Impossible Kid
There's way too many others to point out but pic related and the following are definitely contenders
Cattle Decapitation- Monolith of Inhumanity
Mithras- On Strange Loops
Every Earl album starting with Doris
Batushka - Litourgiya
Archspire - Relentless Mutation
Artificial Brain- Labyrinth Constellation
Job for a Cowboy - Demonocracy and Sun Eater
I'm just gonna stop here
christ! forgot about this! what an album.
