Imagine MGMT's Congratulations (but not quite as good) with more synthpoppy and surf parts as the soundtrack to a French spy movie
Didn't know about her but she seems really good, thanks for the rec
Buridane
Metal Urbain are hella underrated, great synthpunk with drum machine, and loud guitars. Iirc they were the group that inspired Albini to use a drum machine in Big Black. Unfortunately they never caught on in France so they had to move to England to get gigs and stuff, but they ran out of money and broke up

A more current French band, cheveu, owe a lot to them

Ah of course, that makes sense. We kicked them out of Algeria for good reasons, but we still share centuries of history and culture with them so it's cool that they kept this tradition.
Dahmane El Harrachi is one of the best to ever do it, you have good taste. Great dude too, my grandfather was friends with him. Here's more of him

My personal favorite is Souad Massi. She's less traditional and takes influence from western indie, but she still has an oriental sound

>no Alan Stivell
What the everloving fuck is wrong with you, Yea Forums? This man singlehandedly invented Celtic Rock long before those shitty Irish-American bands came along.
One of his songs was a protest song calling for Breton independence.

After Ultime Assaut ended, Fabrice Lauffenberger and Jean Christophe Bru wanted to continue music with folksy themes. Inspired by Alan Stivell, the two men got some friends together to form Vae Victis. The band blended Celtic themes with hard riffs and folksy instrumentation. Vae Victis premiered with a self-titled album in 1995, covering one song from their days as Ultime Assaut as a folk theme dedicated to the Cossacks. After Jean Christophe and Cathie Mollius left the band to form Île de France, a stable line-up would go on to record the Clovis EP and then the sophomore full-length "Quand les vents tournent". They would finally call it quits by the time "Hors-la-loi" came out.
The opening track begins with all-too-familiar epic yet whimsical motifs that would sound more at home scoring the opening scene to a forgotten '90s high fantasy RPG. All the songs are of an enjoyable length that don't overstay their welcome. The songwriting here all compliment the themes established by the music. As you would've surmised, our title track is a tribute to the Frankish King who successfully unified all the tribes under one ruler. "La Dame du Lac" goes into Arthurian territory. The sole overtly political track here is "Résistant Gaélique," pleading for a ceasefire between the Irish Nationalists and Ulster Loyalists. Although I do not speak a word of French, our vocalist Carine conveys these lyrics wonderfully with her angelic voice.
The highlight here is the title track with its energetic riffs that convey the narrative. All the other tracks here are much softer and emotive. In the end, you're left yearning for more, but the band provides the satisfying introductory experience for those seeking Nationalist Celtic Rock.

France's Coldwave scene was much larger and active than the Post-Punk scene from which they were derived. Same with Poland.
