/gg/ needs to be nuked already. It's easily the worst general not just on Yea Forums, but on the whole fucking site. Barely any productive discussion happens and it has devolved entirely to whining about namefags EDITION
A nigga called Sammy A fool called Sammy Acted like a tool and barebacked a tranny A nigga called Sammy A fag called Sammy Barebacked a tranny now AID's not funny
I could never understand why someone would want to own a bunch of shitplanks rather than one decent guitar.
Benjamin Hernandez
I bet that bass sounds like shit and you can't play it
Andrew Stewart
All of them I think. The pickup doesn't affect the routing. Also get the 311H and stop trolling the general now.
Jack Morris
hey stop I can’t I like the 311 so much but the pickguard is so fucking ugly to me
Nicholas Ramirez
I know that there are off the shelf replacement pickguards for the 112 series. You either go with that or get a used 611. None of them feature tortoise pickguards. If you are really lucky you might be able to find just a pickguard from the 611 series. That's the only thing that you can swap.
Camden Ross
Fix your dreadful left hand position. Are you actually bracing your elbow against the heel?
Anthony Ross
i'm posing for a photo that I took myself that ain't how I play I'm classically trained, don't worry
Eli Rivera
that's a big fiddle also yikes
Caleb Gray
You're forgiven then. Here's one of my colleagues trying out my 5 string just after I'd bought it
aw man German bow, jealous, hoping to buy a nice German bow soon to replace the crummy French bow I've been using
Jack Ortiz
whats you yikesing for
Luke Young
Brainlet newbie here. So let's say I play an A chord on the first fret, and then I move a fret down. What note or chord am I playing now?
Juan Cruz
Doesn't hurt to be able to do both, but it's pretty much a German bow town where I live. You'll soon learn that there's heaps of variation in styles of German grip (also French). My colleague and I both play with a Viennese style grip developed by Ludwig Streicher where the weight of the arm goes through the first finger, rather than having the thumb on top of the stick.
by first fret do you mean first position, like open A? if you move the fretted notes one fret down then you get a weird chord called Amin/maj7/#9, assuming you're playing all 6 strings, if you just want to know what chord comes below A major in general then it's A flat/G sharp
Gabriel Morgan
cheers so I can just buy a 120H that’s all black right now and hardtail, eventually replace the pickups to a SD P rails and a single coil or something?
You really cant understand how someone might buy a cheap guitar, then buy another one down the road?
Oliver Perez
Six times. And not once decide to trade them in for a decent guitar.
Side note: you're defending Samuel's shitplank collection right now.
Nathan Lopez
what are your guys favorite licks of all time? hardest/most impressive? looking for more guitar music, can be any genre i don't really give a shit as long as it's guitar
John Scott

Ian Morales
That is possible, yes. There are humbucker sized single coil pickups.
Juan Cruz
I'll ask one more time before I go in blind.
so I have a guitar, and nearly everything on it works perfectly fine, but is the worst of the worst for what's acceptable.
I'm going to buy some chinese pickups, a single coil humbucker most likely, some string tree rollers, possibly some saddle rollers, and some locking tuners.
on the humbucker and locking tuners, anyone know of known good chinese ones? i'm not looking for the best shit in existence, i'm not paying 100$ for tuning pegs, and i'm not paying 200$ for pickups, I don't play 2000+$ guitars that come from custom shops I play cheap as dirt guitars so any issues I come across are almost always down to 'well its cheap' what i'm looking for is stuff that isn't scam tier garbage and is good enough for me to find out if I like how it works and if its worth spending the extra for properly machined ones next time, as far as pickups go, I know what I want to get but I don't want to spend money on them till I know about what my guitar sounds like with humbuckers.
on a side note, anyone know where I can get used made in mexico fender parts for cheap? specifically i'm looking at the bridge.
It’s on both for certain? I’ve heard that coil split neck is shit and doesn’t sound anywhere near as good as a single coil at neck?
Nathaniel Barnes
Is it worth learning guitar sheerly for songwriting? Singing is my real love when it comes to music, but I figure I need at least one instrument under my belt.
Nicholas Martin
Learn piano
Lincoln Parker
I own a bunch of cheap guitars (pic related) but its really easy to buy one then another because of the low cost. However, I find myself playing only like two of the guitars. I am about to trade some for better pedals and such.
That Epi is still great, at least by my standards. Mostly looking to get an overdrive. That tube screamer is borrowed right now.
Anthony Cook
Katana
Levi Baker
Did you guys see John Mayer playing one of Tosin Abasi’s guitars?
Nathaniel Fisher
Epiphones can indeed be great, every guitar varies.
What kind of overdrive are you looking for? Flat, mid-hump, etc. If you're on a budget and can use a soldering iron, most pedals can be built for about $20 in parts.
Julian Morales
>> All thanks to ops shit tier threads that make everybody not want to post in them! >inb4 he replies " uh no fun allowed!??!"

looking to simplify my bass rig. put away my tube amps for now and am using an ampeg pf 350 going into markbass traveler 151p sweet setup but i'm looking to get that tone i love... in short of cranking the volume and driving the tubes, how can i get a tone like youtube.com/watch?v=gPxO069Ldf8 youtube.com/watch?v=rEOQqwlbrpw on a solid state amp?
Luis Perry
Never thought about building one, I could easily do that. Will have to look into this.
Gabriel Ramirez
Tell me what kind of sound you're after and I might be able to give you some recommendations or even schematics.
Lincoln Watson
Just ordered one of these. I think this will give me the sounds I've been chasing with multiple pedals in one.
Should have got a clone with the LM308 chip. The rat 2 sounds like ass sorry to say.
Luis Garcia
Getting the right chip is important. Unlike any other pedal I can think of, the characteristic sound of the RAT is due in a large part to the opamp shitting itself.
Blake Edwards
People been using it for decades
Eli White
Yes they have, but the one that has the legendary sound uses the LM308 chip. That’s the one that sounds good. The newer circuit with the other chip sounds like shit. That is why the Rat has become irrelevant in the last 20 years or so. When Proco does a run of reissue pedals with the original spec chips they sound amazing and sell out quick, but they’re not the new ones in regular production.
Carson Cook
You couldn't tell the difference. Maybe in a side by side, but that's it.
Owen James
Fag who uses other generals here
/gg/ is good except for namefag drama. Try out /g/'s generals. They're basically advertisements and they are made by actual bots. Someone wiped the board once and generals popped up within seconds of 404ing. Or if you really hate yourself, go to basically any thread on /vg/ where the posts visible from the index are not clearly related directly to the game and I guarantee you it will be more off topic than this. Or go to a Yea Forums general, those are known for being moved to /trash/.
/gg/'s problems boil down to one or two people reposting some IRC/discord tier drama but it's easily one of the most on topic, least spammy generals on the website.
Is that you Samuel? Of course you can tell the difference, it's pretty obvious especially in single note melodies.
Mason Williams
i did this for a while but it was only because I was never satisfied with the guitar i had. but two cheap guitars still isn't the same as the one guitar you actually want. if the wood configuration is close to what you want, try fucking with the electronics instead, it's cheaper and you'll get better results. a set of good pickups costs less than most guitars and some wiring tricks like kill switches and coil splitting are basically free.
Genre doesn't matter as it will all sound like shit when played by me anyway
Jayden Kelly
Fair enough. Schematics are everywhere and the official one is pretty cheap, so you can do what you like. If you build one, make sure you get the right chip.
Lincoln Sanders
Music Man are trash tier for limp wristed babby hand faggots lol

Does anyone have any video lessons on some advanced blues rhythm guitar? I found a really good one (50 Blues Rhythms You MUST Know), but it's 30 bucks and I'm not even sure if online guitar courses are worth it.
Christian Jenkins
True fire is worth. Buy a year sub
Nolan Brown
I think people in /gg/ just get annoyed when people with piles of gear tell them everyone should own less of it.
Is it true there will always be someone better than you? Even if you practice 3 hours a day
Ryan Hughes
To follow on with this, you have to be a little careful when getting a pedal that has been in production a long time and made by more than one company during its run. Sometimes what makes a pedal sound great is the fail state of one or two critical components, and if those are changed out for whatever reason (no longer available, costs too much, builder wants to automate production, etc), the “magic” sound of those things goes away. Famous examples include: The JRC4558 op-amp chip in the original Tube Screamers, The germanium diodes in the original MXR Distortion+, Germanium diodes in the original Klon Centaur The germanium transistors in the original Fuzz Face and Dallas Rangemaster boost The transistor values, inductor values and pot taper in the Crybaby wah design. For instance, there’s a reason why most 90s songs don’t have wah but a lot have have Big Muff all over them. The Crybaby circuits from the time sounded awful, while the Russian-made Big Muffs of the time sounded absolutely amazing. It was only later when pedal builders started tracking down the original components, tracing the original circuits and building super-premium pedals that sounded great when wah started showing back up on recordings in the late 90s/early 2000s. 90s Big Muffs, meanwhile, still command premium prices and have recently been reissued by EHX in response to continuously strong demand for that sound.
Ian Powell

Charles Peterson
Anything less than 10" and you're relegated to playing shortscales and ukuleles, I'm afraid.
11" is necessary but not sufficient, learn to logic.
John Jenkins
Like I said, make up your mind.
Ryder Miller
Having a handspan of less than 11" makes you a spanlet. Having stub fingers makes you spanlet. In order not to be a spanlet you must meet several stringent criteria.
I can recommend you the Fender Jaguar, user.
Dylan Martinez

Eli Perry
>wrist I think you're measuring it wrong. We're talking about handspan here.
Angel Price
Start slow-like 60bpm-and work on being absolutely clean, with no mistakes. When that’s done, work on being just as clean at 65bpm, then 70, 75, 80 and so on. Just working your way up in tempo, always focusing on precision and note definition. By the time you’re playing clean eighth notes up above 150, people will think you’re blazingly fast and wonder aloud how you got so good.
Noah Reed
>tfw 5'10" >left hand is 7 6/8s long >right hand is 7 7/8s long >left hand span is 8 1/2 >right hand span is 8 3/8s
Gee now I'm never gonna be steve vai
You only have to reach the first four strings and only past the 12th fret to be a guitar god nowadays though right?
Notice how spanlets have to hide their rulers in a desperate attempt to avoid their shame.
Sebastian King
Daily reminder that there’s no money above the 5th fret. You are also reminded that Keith Richards has a net worth in excess of $300,000,000 and has fathered kids with supermodels. And all this despite being a lifelong junkie and drunk.
My strings started scratching against the frets when I do bends just today. Wtf is this? It hasn’t done it before. I hope it’s not the frets wearing out. To be fair the factory strings are a bit shit and are already brown where I touch them the most (gonna assume it’s rust). Do strings get scratchy when they rust? I’m a bit worried I just don’t want the frets to go bad.
Nicholas Clark
I know man, I live in the city and can take the bus/walk/bike anywhere I need to so I have no need for a car (would probably not buy one for quite a long time even if I were to get my license) so have just been postponing it forever. Been working for soon three years now after uni and I prioritized buying an own apartment first, and now I'm beginning to get some cash stashed away again so my next two "big" purchases are the license and the guitar, just don't know which one to get first.
Levi Green
No wonder youre a fucking virgin.
Jason Edwards
I'll let you know that I've gotten laid multiple times thanks to guitar. Also if it weren't for me starting playing and being in bands and having to socialize with people irl I'd probably still be playing WoW full-time and have no social skills whatsoever.
Jose Torres
>thinking he’s ever going to get one He’s already waited too long. At this point he might as well get the Strandberg, because he’s got no other source of personal fulfillment in his life.
Grayson Baker
>I've gotten laid multiple times thanks to guitar Now imagine for a second if you had a car
Robert Gray
The guys a fucking idiot. Let him do what he wants and buy the dumbass headless guitar.
Liam Brooks
My music is more important to me than fucking shallow sluts desu senpai
Lucas Rodriguez
you're right, he's hopeless
Austin Gray
He prefers the attention of nerdy dudes who will gawk at his guitar and ask if its a strandberg. Meanwhile stacy doesnt care about a broken looking guitar and is getting fucked in the back of chads car.
The main reason I want one is because of the ergonomics and the light balanced weight. I'd probably be able to practice for longer sessions without getting fatigued in my shoulders and back. Also I want a proper quality 8-string where the quality of the guitar isn't fighting against me all the time. My 6-string (Gibson™ Les Paul™) plays and sounds great and is so much nicer than my 500€ Ibanez RG8, but since I got that one it's pretty much all I play so upgrading would be nice.
Never watched that, what anime?
Adrian Campbell
>HOW you're playing like shit >WHAT you're playing also shit

Grayson Phillips
>8 string >neet >no license >no car >27 >blizzdrone please stop user, I can only take so much
>neet >blizzdrone Where did you get that from? I clearly posted I've been working for soon 3 years now since I graduated uni and bought my own apartment first instead of a license I have no practical use for at the moment. Also I said I stopped playing WoW years ago. What's the matter?
my bad, I just assumed that anyone who's enough of a manchild to pay 2.5k for an 8 string meme guitar would probably lie to strangers on the internet about having a job and being done with WoW
As opposed to people that pay $2.5k for an unremarkable gibson with tuning issues and the ones that pay $2.5k for a plain jane "custom" fender and so on when they all sound just as good as a $500 mexican guitar
Aaron Bell
I'm starting to get pretty fit actually, been dedicated to keeping my workout schedule for real for about a year now. Pulled 200kg deadlift a little while ago, how about you?
Tyler Kelly
I do practice three hours a day I've been playing for 20 years I'm nowhere close to playing like John Scofield
Noah Adams
natural talent is a thing
everyone probably has something, even if its lame like being a natural at sucking cock, but very few people want to do what they're good at. guitar probably isn't what you're good at. sucking cock might be. but you play guitar because it beats sucking cock.
Cooper Parker
that's the thing, quantity of practice < quality of practice. I was total shit for years until I realized this
Isaiah Sanchez
"natural talent" is just early development exposure to music, how well your parents set up your brain plasticity's ability to progress in music
bad guess, it's very smooth to play, has a narrower spacing, and sounds fine
why Sam would be discussing mods on Rat pedals
theyre not shitplanks. the tele stays in tune like you wouldnt believe, is made of ash, maple is one two pieces only (glued fretboard), and came with upgraded pickups (bought it used) the 12 string was borrowed and isnt with me anymore since early 2017 the les paul is 3 piece natowood, good stock grover tuners, and id put duncan 59 + super distortion on it, dunlop 6000 frets, gotoh tailpiece and gfs locking tuneomatic. the classical is unexpensive and my first guitar but stays in tune surprisingly ok the strat was my first electric, it's 7 piece basswood, i upgraded everything on it but i took it apart because it didnt sound the way i wanted because of the basswood body, now i'm making a headless compact guitar with its body and neck.
Im not fat at all. Why do you try so hard to impress men?
Jacob Hernandez
hey sucking cock isnt a talent. it's very easy to figure out. ive sucked like two trannies and the second one already was impressed by my femalecock sucking.
Luis Foster
I remember you putting shitty chinese clones in there not duncans.
Connor Perez
how do you keep doing it i cant do daily pushups for two weeks. probably because my ego wasnt entertained by doing only two reps each time (of the one with closed arms. the speadd one i can do 15 or more each time). after all these years i'm still a weakass fag.
not chinese, brazilian handwired ones made with the same raw materials as the big brands.
Justin Sullivan
maybe you've just got a gift for it, Sam. don't diminish your accomplishments in the art of banging ladyboys
Isaiah Thomas
>not chinese, brazilian handwired ones made with the same raw materials as the big brands. Then you can't call them Duncans
Ryder Morales
it would be a long hassle to write malagoli clones of duncan 59 and dimarzio super distortion
Bentley Carter
Why did you call them seymour duncans then? Nevermind i already know its >peasant cope
Jose Davis
it doesnt matter theyre virtually the same
Justin Cook
Next time write malagoli branded sd copies.
Charles Jackson
but sd as in super distortion or seymour duncan? see, youre making it unclear already.
Is there anything other than picks and strings you can get at music stores? I'm going to one tomorrow (rarely do) and I wonder if there's anything I can buy while I'm there. I have lemon oil.
John Gomez
usually you can buy harmonicas and other little instruments if that's your thing
Nathaniel Turner
how to interface a piezo pickup to a pc? I can get my electric guitar working in amplitube, but i get nothing from my ovation
i'm only a third of the way through, but it keeps getting worse and worse as it goes on
learn to tune, buy a metronome, follow the changes, stick to a gameplan instead of improvising aimlessly with no structure or phrasing, and get better backing tracks
>imagine being a little bitch irl >imagine being a little bitch that deletes his sperg angry poats showing i clearly got to him on the internet Lol hows that girl with a tweaker mom just like yours? Tell her todd said hi
I don't understand how music works but I can read tabs and move my hands around the fret board pretty well, that's about it though. What do I have to study to be able to just jam over backing tracks and shit? Right now I only know how to read tabbed music by other people and play it as it's written.
I would learn a few scales and use them to create your own solos and leads. Check out minor pentatonic and blues scales, as well as the major scale. Once you've got those under your belt, look into the modes of the major scale and then diatonic chords.
>one month of sporadic practice, 5 hours worth maybe
Should I just give up
Brandon Gonzalez
I got one for my 70's lawsuit les paul
Daniel Ward
You hit the strings way too hard asperger boy
Juan Cook
Stop bullying my friend right now
Jonathan Bell
At least I hit the right ones most of the time.
James Reyes
considering youre pressing so hard the notes you're playing go out of tune, no you're not hitting the right notes
Luke Ross
invest in a metronome, you can get them online for free, practice to one every time you practice for all of your practice for your next 100 hours of practice
put in the effort so you can look back on your investment and feel a deserved sense of pride in what you have accomplished, or kill yourself
Juan Richardson
it sounds more like his guitar isn't setup properly than fretting too hard
They're not headless and look way too bulky for my taste, otherwise they are cool but nah.
Jackson Gutierrez
How many years have you played? And how many years did it take until you were 90% as good as you are today?
Juan Wilson
8 years, and 8 years
Brandon Cox
13 years 7 years
Tyler Lopez
>play bass >join metal band >don't have to be good
Jose Hernandez
Can confirm
Juan Reyes
what is fret buzz? can someone post an example of it? i think i have it.
Charles Campbell
Basically
Justin Perry
why are there so many guitarists who you’d look at and think wow he looks pretty cool but there are no bassists like that?
Thomas Hernandez
the string's vibrations make contact with the frets or another portion of the guitar's anatomy, creating either muted notes or an unpleasant buzz
if you think you have it, you probably have it. Take in your guitar and have it setup for the tuning you intend to play in without the fretbuzz, and experience the results
Jacob Price
well, stop the anime shitposting tyrants
Hunter Kelly
actually i did have it a few days ago too but then i setup the guitar, adjusted the neck relief, etc and it was gone completely but now its back. should i adjust the neck relief again? what are some other causes of fret buzz besides the neck relief?
Jaxon Nelson
It doesn't usually happen, but it's common for the neck to "settle" (i.e., go back) a few days after the truss rod is adjusted. Set it up again, it should stick this time.
Brody Morales
>play instrument >join metal band >don't have to be musically creative
Jaxon Evans
okay. thanks
Joseph Stewart
What kind of power supply do you guys use for your pedals? I'm just getting into pedals, but I don't want to be using individual wall plugs forever.
Charles Sullivan
Damn day old general still up. It feels like just yesterday these would only last 4 hours.
is it stupid because you might as well go out and buy a les paul if you want that tone.
Kevin Thompson
wait i checked the neck relief again and it's perfect. what else could be causing it? the string height is fine too because i haven't changed it whatsoever.
Angel Barnes
Set the whole thing up again, not just the neck relief.
Charles Jenkins
>is it stupid because you might as well go out and buy a les paul if you want that tone. It's a small alder 25.5" with a vibrato, it won't sound like a Les Paul.
If you want humbuckers, why not just go full-size HH?
Jaxon Edwards
Humbuckers doesn't equal Les Paul
Samuel Brooks
I should probably add "bolt-on" to that list of differences. It'll never sound like a Les Paul.
Colton Rogers
I guess its just the buzz is gone and the PAF tone is a bonus. I compared them to the Pearly Gates Seymour Duncan's and the tone is similar
The pickups listed there are 59 PAF reissues they're voiced like the 59 les paul
