When you boil it down, isn't all music writing just clicking a bunch of coloured rectangles to make pitched noises in sequence?

not rectangles with an embedded sound. You write music for specific instruments and for them to interact. For example, the synths that anons use have a lot of overtones and make consonant intervals sound richer and dissonances sound good. Try that same roll with a piano or guitar and it sounds like the crap they truly are

(not the guy you were talking to) I wonder what anons even mean when they say that. Most people who "know music theory" just like know what a V chord is or what #9 means or whatever. This can do nothing but help you. There is a small chance that maybe if you get uber obsessed with super technical details and start to lose sight of aspects of musicality beyond theory you lose some "creativity". But like, some rando on Yea Forums is not going to get to the level where that could even be possible, because you couldn't become knowledgable enough by reading a couple wikipedia articles and watching some youtube videos.
