I AM SO FUCKING CLOSE TO BUYING A GUITAR AGAIN EVEN THOUGH I SOLD MY OLD ONE SINCE I NEVER EVER FUCKING PLAYED ON IT I WAS A LITTLE IMPATIENT SPOILED SHIT WHO JUST WANTED TO PLAY COVERS AND I LOST ALL MOTIVATION WHEN IT DIDN'T SOUND 100% LIKE IN THE SONGS I HATE MY 14 YEAR OLD SELF ESPECIALLY NOW THAT MY MUSIC TASTE HAS EVOLVED SO INSANELY MUCH IN THESE 11 YEARS SINCE THEN
>You'll be able to do the acoustic bit just fine as long as you practice playing your notes nice and clean
Cheers, I need to find a good set of tabs for this and start practicing. Was there a reason you mentioned the acoustic bits specifically? I'm using an electric and want to learn basically the whole song
friendly reminder that if you are avoiding a ban it literally means this is the only thing you have good luck with life
Logan Johnson
Well, the electric guitar part isn't anything difficult. some fast runs here and there, but it's basically the same as the acoustic parts. Dare I suggest you try and learn it by ear? Its a nice and easy song and it's good to kickstart your ear training early on.
Well I can at least try I suppose. I've been doing some very basic ear training with the justinguitar stuff so I can recognise some chords, but haven't really tried with individual notes yet.
The kind of garbage Sammy always buys because he's too poor to afford anything decent. He then proceeds to fuck up the install so badly he ruins the turd he's attempting to polish.
Zachary Nguyen
You can call it whatever you want. It's not a TOM
Ethan Foster
it reads TOM.
for your information, this GFS bridge costed me more than the brand new Gotoh aluminum tailpiece.
Ayden Price
>for your information ... Yeah, doesn't change anything I said.
Jonathan Carter
>aluminum
Jack Morris
>$30 XD
Eli Hall
now tell me this isnt solid. you adjust it with an allen wrench and then you put another screw to hold it tight.
What the fuck happened to your pickup mounting rings? And the pole pieces?
Dylan Cooper
thats not polepieces, the pickups have acne
James Hernandez
Finally got the vintage white stratocaster that I ordered from Japan a week or so ago and I have some questions: 1. Is it normal fora MIJ to have a truss rod hole at the top of the headstock AND have a dip in the pickguard for bottom neck truss rod? Mine has both 2. Tremolo bar that came with it doesnt fit and the bridge seems to have a cm gap near the tremolo arm hole 3. Is it normal for saddles not to have Fender logo on them? Its supposedly a 2006 Pic related is the gap, sorry for quality, looks like the bridge is too small for the cavity
i might as well give it a little cleanup before restringing. car wax on the body and dunlop lemon oil on the fretboard (which is darker than modern gibsons').
hell ye. gonna see what the baritone SG does to my mesa boogie that the telecaster doesn't do...
i found out that the reason my telecaster has such a surreal level of dynamics on the twang game where if you pick soft, it's a bell sound, and if you pick hard, it twangs like a lemon, is because the strings actually get lower from the nut to the bridge despite shimming the bridge with pennies. so picking softly doesn't make them smack the last fret. but picking hard DOES. and you can control how hard the strings smack the fret as they ring.
but basically that means i can never set the tele up properly or it'll lose that quality, so i wanted a guitar for a more conventional and thick/bold sound, with humbuckers instead of vintage voiced broadcaster single coils.
i really want to see what it's like capoing the baritone SG off at the 5th fret and doing the dang ol strum n sing thing is like.
This is probably the wrong guitar related discussion group to axe this but any of y'all do any modding to your guitar's electronics? I came up with one I liked for my strat but I am about to mod it again to be a little better, I guess. Neck and Middle in series is pretty good and I recommend it.
Blake Perez

Ask for a pic of the neck pocket
Nolan Lee
Thats either plywood or a very strange router bit. Which one is more probable? You tell me. Also what said
Local shop has a Fender MIM HSS Strat with a coil split switch for $350. Should I do it?
Jaxon Lee
Guys I just started and my guitar body feels really heavy, to the point where it slides off my leg if tilt the neck up too much. Anybody have any advice on what I can do?
Eli Jones
CGDGBD
Andrew Richardson
hunch over. or wear a strap while sitting down. that's what i do. are you fat or something?
Nicholas Parker
sure
Nathan Cox
So I've got my rhythm shit down where I want it, but I barely ever touch lead/solo type stuff, and I think y'all will understand why I would like to be able to do both. Is there any way to git gud at that stuff without having to spend hundreds of hours locked in a room just sucking?
Should specify the kind of style I wanna be able to play is 60s/70s rock
Grayson Martin
didn't mean to tag that post, RIP
Parker Brooks
No I just think the guitar is heavy. I have an acoustic that I can hold perfectly the body of my electric is just a lot heavier than the neck and I'm worried it will slide off my leg if I tilt it too much.
>tfw you nerds are going on about tone and I just meant the look That's why I'm getting a guitar with a maple fretboard even tho I'm more of a punk player. Those babies age like beauties. Can see right where the owner plays the most
Colton Lee
No
Yeah, I'm just getting back into guitar after not playing for almost a decade, so it's never been cleaned. I have been looking at video for doing my own setups, though, so that will be soon. I was just dismayed at the appearance of a crack in the neck.
Ryder Gray
He is trolling. There is literally no reason not to use a tube amp if you can afford or build one. Building them is pretty easy. 'Modeling' is simply disgusting.
>valuing looks over tone Jesus Christ
Hudson Stewart
Should i buy a Jay Turser bass or save my money and buy a fender?
James Hill
I was told with this kind of bridge if you thread the strings backwards and over it makes bending a little easier. Can anyone confirm?
half of people can tell whether a quarter will land heads or tails...
Juan Fisher
What if it lands on the edge?
Eli Martin
Someone convince me not to buy the 600$ left handed weeaboo epiphone. I don't have the money. Our band doesn't need the les paul tone. I have guitars that need fixing. I should buy groceries or a better amp than the minibrute. It's not even a real les paul. But GOD DAMN IT I WANT IT I NEED IT TO MAKE ME FEEL HEATED.
How much bow is too much? I would love to low the action on my guitar but I can't without causing fret buzz which could be corrected with the truss rod, but I don't know how far is too far
John Bell
>you'll pass aids to the little kids who dream of being slash Good. Fuck Slash. Overrated mother fucker
Oliver Garcia
Shouldn't the neck simply be straight? You use the bridge to raise the action, not the truss rod.
Nothing of value will be lost. Slash is literally musical AIDS. Why not save them the misery of perpetual failure by killing them off when they’re young?
Besides, Samuel needs someone else to buttfuck without fear of infecting anybody new.
James Jones
You’ll know when it’s too low.
When it starts buzzing all over the neck and you can’t raise the bridge saddles up enough to kill the buzz, that’s when it’s time to loosen the truss rod again.
Thomas Lewis
I don't want to raise the action, I want to lower it. And secondly, no, it shouldn't be straight. There should be at least some bend in it
Christian Williams
>weeaboo epiphone Shut the fuck up
Ian Young
google
Alexander Wood
No. The neck should have a little curve.
Nicholas Sullivan
I stopped watching the anime, but I fell in love with the weebpaul
Taking the new strat in to a great luthier wednesday for a humbucker install, some wiring mods, and a setup. Can't wait to get it back.
Jeremiah Davis
cant you do that by yourself
Wyatt Kelly
No, I'm mentally challenged. Didn't you understand that by reading my post? I bought a new guitar despite the fact that I don't like the hardware configuration and electronics
no, you just said you have a new strat. looks like you are actually mentally challenged.
Nicholas Martinez
no, it's a telecaster.
Brayden Turner
when i press the high E on the 1st fret i get 3.1mm between the 22nd fret's top and the string
rate that
Tyler Parker
Gear doesn't matter. That's why /gg/ only talks about gear. It's actually /gear general/
Chase Sanchez
Hard to tell without playing it, but probably
Chase Wilson
What are you supposed to be measuring?
Easton Anderson
Ok let me plead my case here. The only reason I bought the Strat was because I liked the color. It's a special run walnut finish, maple board with fat headstock. Got a really good deal on it so I figured I could just make it exactly how I want with the money I saved.
Alexander Wilson
Yeah but it makes cool twangy noises and the notes ring out forever
Never buy anything in a color you like, that's for tryhards. Buy things in your least favorite color and you'll learn to really love them.
what i am supposing myself to be measuring? action/bridge height.
Hunter James
>Yeah but it makes cool twangy noises and the notes ring out forever
now i know you're lying because twang and sustain are literally, physically, physics-based-actually-diametrically opposed opposited
David Hall
That's not how you do it
Mason Gutierrez
damn user walnut?
bad irony there
Benjamin Long
hows the action set up?
David Mitchell
Needs more jizz
Andrew Bennett
I'll have you know all guitars sound twangy if you pluck the strings hard enough.
Zachary Wood
the shittiest guitar in the universe
Bentley Harris
whatever, im doing it by feel now
Ryder Cruz
measure at the 12th fret with noting pressed. Should be 2.3 on the low and 1.5 on the high
Xavier Robinson
I just learned where an F chord is 7 different places on the guitar. Holy balls How did I not realize this sooner. They're all connected.
Wyatt Taylor
should be how much i feel like
Camden Campbell
that's not the point, for a guitar to be considered twangy, it has to have the twang-point centred on the very midpoint of playing dynamics. half as hard as the hardest a string can be hit should be where it begins to twang. any less than that and it's just fucked and any more than that and it's not really nashville approved.
Jackson Lewis
i can play it more than one way on the same place, top that.
I'm not trying to one up you, I'm just sharing in my break through. How do you mean more than one way in the same place? Like you can break up the G shape fingering to the top and bottom because barring that is stupid?
Gabriel Anderson
Just trying to help. If you want to keep being a shit, by all means.
Tyler Jenkins
Yeah. Here's the before. It's getting a gibson 490t in the bridge, and I'm moving the knobs around so vol is where tone 1 is and tone 2 controls every pickup. Hate the stock vol knob placement. I just put graph tech saddles on it too. Will post after pics when I get it back.
LETS TALK ABOUT F CHORDS user. I GOTTA FIND THIS GUY. TURNS OUT, THERE IS NO F CHORD. THE CHORD DOES NOT EXIST. ARE YOU KIDDING, I HAVE BOXES FULL OF F CHORDS. SO I GO DOWN TO JUSTIN GUITAR AND GO JUSSSSTIIIIN, JUSSSTINNNN I NEED TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT F CHORDS JUSTIIINNN. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? IT TURNS OUT THERE IS NO JUSTIN.
Isaac Bell
different fingerings and inversions
yeah good look being "good" with your gay action and thinass tone
Wyatt Gutierrez
how to sand and polish the string slots of a tuneomatic with stuff i have at home?
Jose Sullivan
>This creature is inside your guitar right now. Be careful, it might kill you as you sleep.
Looks great user, what color is the humbucker? Hopefully you'll use it with the chrome cap.
Does body wood actually impact tone enough to matter for electric guitars??
Hunter Morgan
I'm not at that level yet. I started with open chords. Figured out barred A and E chords, and now I'm trying to figure out C,G,D barres.
Lucas Murphy
no
Evan Peterson
yeah i knew im levels ahead of you.
Isaiah Hill
Yep, got the humbucker with a nickel cover.
Carson Rogers
any protips senpai?
Luis Miller
yup, keep practicing the instrument and learning songs and maybe some day you'll be as good as i am
Nathaniel Evans
high action doesn't increase tone. It does, however, make all your shit sharp when you press the strings.
But maybe you like being out of tune? I don't know.
Chase Perez
Nope. Pedals can replicate tube overdrive. Solid state amps are lighter, cheaper AND more reliable, and do not necessitate regular parts replacement. Tube amps are inferior, antiquated technology.
tube cleans are better. tube drive is better. tube in betweens are better. tube response is better. solid state amps can be pretty good, but tubes are better. the way they feel and respond behind your strings and hands can't be replicated. their sound can't be simulated.
unfortunately not many people make solid state guitar amps anymore. i can't think of any except the jazz chorus and i KNOW randall has to have one.
Is that tone "shit"? Because yeah. I don't know how to do a setup for that.
Jackson Bennett
of course you do. have some faith in yourself! you have done that for years.
Tyler Ramirez
>tube cleans are better. tube drive is better. tube in betweens are better. tube response is better. solid state amps can be pretty good, but tubes are better. the way they feel and respond behind your strings and hands can't be replicated. their sound can't be simulated. All expectation bias/post-purchase rationalization/placebo snake oil bullshit. Yes, really. What exactly do tubes do for guitar sounds? They provide soft clipping and harmonic distortion. Pedals also provide soft clipping and harmonic distortion.
Thomas Rogers
As for the amp discussion you might just as well discuss what is the best chord. It's fairly subjective. On that note, we'd better call it a night Bois.
Samuel Anderson
Sup fellas. I own Fernandes PJS 50 and its neck is not comfortable for me so im gonna sell it and buy this Kramer. Worth it?
Got my shitty Epiphone SG setup today and it feels so much better to play now, much less buzzing when I fret some notes. My brother also said I can have his mustang fender amp which was really nice of him :^)
More shitty questions lads, what resources do you think are good if I want to learn the fretboard and the scales?
Em and G are the most guitar jam-friendly chords with regards to standard tuning.
Tyler Harris
pedals can't provide anything similar to tubes. unless they have tubes in them. tubes are fundamentally different and it's not even quantifiable how much goes into that difference.
Ian Williams
How does it hold the candle against modern stuff? I've been looking for it but i'm also interested on the Mooer GE200, for the IR stuff. I got a ME-25 at the moment.
Your argument: voodoo magic My argument: science I'll repeat: >What exactly do tubes do for guitar sounds? They provide soft clipping and harmonic distortion. Pedals also provide soft clipping and harmonic distortion. Do you have anything other than voodoo magic to argue with or have I decisively won this debate?
Some of the best tones I've ever gotten were a Blues Driver into a Tube Screamer into a $50 Crate solid state practice amp's clean channel. No fooling.
Colton Gomez
just because you can't understand it doesn't make it magic.
if you think it's 'soft clipping and harmonic distortion', nothing else, YOU are the superstitious one. you're just a trolling weeb anyways.
Connor Taylor
Its so weird seeing a tele with humbuckers but I really like that tele
Noah Diaz
>it's not even quantifiable A statement like this is pretty much by definition argument for voodoo magic. >oh no he used an anime image on an anime website, this totally invalidates his argument Many such cases. Sad!
just because you can't quantify it doesn't mean it doesn't exist, does it. no. 5
Dylan Kelly
I hate waiting for my nails to dry cause it means I can't play guitar for 2 hours. Ima dude btw
Luis Butler
The Guitar Grimoire: Scales book is pretty good, has a bunch of different scales and permutations if you want to play some really out-there stuff as well as the basics.
Otherwise, I would just watch any YouTube video explaining the major scale and its modes, maybe look up how to play blues and pentatonic scales. That alone will get you through 99% of guitar music.
Benjamin Myers
I am rather pleased, but I am a oldfag who's hasn't really been paying much attention to the development lately. It does have a bit too digital signature imo, but lots of fun to play around with for a old geezer like me. Payed about 150usd, I don't know if that's a good value, at least all functions work and it is build like a tank.
Luke Thomas
>it's your big break, the most important show of your life >you turn your amp on >it's dead because a tube cracked when you hit a pothole on the way to the gig
I like it because it has a lot of pre-amps and you can use different cabs. But the Mooer is about the same price, new, and can load IR, which are the second best thing other than having a 4x12 with mics on a studio room. The fact you can make it stereo too is pretty amazing, not sure if the Mooer can do that.
Correct, it wouldn't. I've seriously considered buying one of those actually. Pretty affordable for a reliable 100 watt beast. I know you've been spamming that amp ironically but I mean this unironically. I know I could get great tones out of its clean channel with overdrive pedals and an EQ pedal.
William Cox
>turning your amp on just when you're ready to play
how do i know you've never done a show
Jayden Carter
>turning your amp on just when you're ready to play DID I FUCKING SPECIFY THAT? READ IT AGAIN.
>he thinks that every potential problem with a tube amp can be diagnosed and repaired in the time between plugging in an amp at the show and actually playing the show, no matter the show and circumstances How do I know you've never done a show?
>every show has a soundcheck How do I know you've never done a show?
Jace Lewis
I'm just setting up a home studio, didn't know about the Mooer, might check it out. I will get the Focusrite 2i2 tomorrow, and will use Ubuntu Studio with Ardour 5. I am currently looking for a good 2 hand condenser mic. Any advice is much appreciated. Will use mic for acoustic guitars and vocals.
Jackson Hill
does that work if i want to replace these bushings for thinner ones
Brayden Hall
>thinking sound checks are optional
how do i know you've never been PAID to do a show?
Logan Brown
get a MXL, or Rhode if you can afford it. large diaphragm for vocals and small diaphagm for the guitar.
Anthony Russell
>you don't even know whats going on do you? Honestly, I'm half paying attention.
Carson Adams
I've been on both ends of the optional soundcheck/paid gig spectrum dude, and I find it hard to believe that anyone who claims to have never played a gig without a soundcheck has ever actually played a gig in their life.
Jonathan Price
>never played a gig without a soundcheck
for what reason would you. it can only make you look bad. really bad fucking optics. some people have rent to make as well.
Adrian Lee
You might need to put something larger than a toothpick, and might look like shit on the end. But you do you man. All i know about mics is that i like how the SM57 + V30's for IR's sounds. Cant help you on that matter. If you are going to use a computer though you definetely don't need the Mooer to get IR, since its a thing that came from plugins in the first place. Although i do reccomend using IR's on the plugins before spending money on the actual mic, unless you already got a cabinet. Though even if you have, i'd try getting a IR that matches your cab and try diferent mics for it, until you find one you like.
Some people consider soundcheck to be part of the gig. I do. Everything from the time you leave home until you return is "the gig".
Eli Barnes
Confirmed for never played a gig.
Robert Ramirez
ill just bring it to my tech. it doesnt take much equipment for him to do it, does it? because he said hes not doing woodwork for he sold his wood equipment.
he is asking about mic'ing acoustic guitars and vocals, why is that useful in the slightest?
Hunter Sanders
There's a Rode NT2-A for sale, could that be OK for my use? (I don't have any ambitions for my setup other than having fun and learning something new)
Logan Flores
Just ordered a Boss Katana and an EHX Small Clone, lads. What should I expect?
no, what he means is that sometimes you don't have time for a soundcheck because you're not being paid and the proprieters don't give a fuck what you want. only 'artists' do that kind of thing, they do it because they think it's exposure, but it's the wrong kind, and it never works out. in the time you waste doing that shit you could be making SOMETHING that day, SOMEWHERE, if you're not it's because you're not looking hard enough.
John White
Awesomeness
Henry Garcia
ebay listings for a boss katana and ehx small clone
Oliver Long
Everyone plays unpaid gigs in the beginning. Everyone.
Lucas Myers
Why would anyone play a gig for free?
Adam Reed
i didnt know rodes could go that cheap. the NT2-A shall do you fine.
Camden Morgan
I've never played an unpaid gig.
David Hill
What you’re describing isn’t a gig but larping
Sebastian Miller
Some people enjoy playing music.
Connor Rogers
You do it for free in your bedroom. You get paid to do it for an audience.
Jackson Parker
Nothing makes you better at playing music with other people in front of other people... than playing music with other people in front of other people. You're doing yourself a disservice as a performer if you're not performing at every opportunity, paid or unpaid.
Andrew Wright
nope.
because they're hung up on juvenile notions of 'using your (probably bad) "stage presence" and soul' or something retarded like that to 'win people over and make 'fans'. it's dumb and it worked for like 3 people in history but people continue to attempt it, which is a blessing to shitty venue booking, where you just need *something* for the jazz clicking beret wearing sickly folk that spend disposable income at such events. look at it this way, you can sell coffee, or you can sell coffee and also sell more coffee if you have random bush league artists playing at your place.
ok. you do it how you think will work. good luck.
Ryder Hughes
new thread new thread new thread
Dylan Stewart
You're cutting your own throat if you play for free. Why would Paul pay you to play at his club if he knows you play for free at Peters club?
Jordan Hernandez
Holy fucking SHIT that is one adequate guitar. It is absolutely radiating adequacy.
>people who aren't yet good enough to reliably play paid gigs shouldn't improve their ability to play with others in front of others by playing for free Imagine completely ignoring the most effective form of practice.
Brayden Sanders
Bigsbys are so fucking sexy.
Wyatt Ortiz
It's called band practice. If you think playing for an audience makes you better then you invite some friends over to your practice. If you play to an audience outside of your practice space, you get paid. Period.
this is a person who is not me, but who is saying the same thing i was saying.
if you're trying to make a living as a musician, you might want to start off on the right foot by getting paid to do it.
you've never been paid to play, and probably never played a show unpaid either. either way, you're stupid. you don't get how it works.
Elijah Jenkins
Been playing acoustic for a few years, thinking about upgrading to an electric for more variety in sound. Should i get a cheap tele with a few pedals, or a jaguar? Still brand new when it comes to electric stuff, would like to be able to get a more versatile soundscape.
