holy fuck another day of visitors guys. theyre coming almost on a daily basis. will i ever be able to play guitar again?
Oliver Brooks
Well, you have to think about it from a certain perspective when you're here. Like see this guy here ? He's talking about "spending his Sunday afternoon playing jazz standards" but what he's not saying is how he's playing them in an empty room by himself like a complete fucking loser. Or this guy here "I play"? lol, be mean and ask him the name of his band.
Just keep in mind anytime /gg/ talks about "playing" they're never talking about playing for or with other people, they're talking about their inability to do this. That's why they all waste their time here. Once you understand that /gg/ ends up being pretty simple to navigate and interpret.
He didn't say playing for or with other people, or even gigging. He said "playing". Stop being fucking autistic and dissecting other people and focus on your life instead.
Elijah Reed
>He said "playing" Right. In an empty room by himself like a complete fucking loser. "I play" is essentially the same this as "I masturbate".
All alone. By yourself. Literally because no one wants to fuck with you. Nothing to be proud of.
Not everyone on here is a little shitstain 16 year old. I'm old. I've been there and done that. I play because I want to now. Not because I feel the need to be seen and heard.
Bentley Campbell
FYI: furiously jacking your tiny dick all alone in your room isn't an accomplishment.
We're talking about guitars. Why are you talking about dicks? Do you like dicks? Do they take up all your thoughts?
Bentley Brooks
You hurt my brain with your stupidity.
Kevin Jackson
Right, you're admitting you're a fucking loser.
Keith Richards is old and is still out there doing it so why aren't you? There's an answer to this question but you wouldn't be ever honest enough to say it.
does not having SD pickups, wilkinson trem, grover tuners really matter when you're learning for your first year or two anyway?
Logan Peterson
>guitar for channeling the ghosts of people who actually listen to shred
Parker Lopez
So I’m really getting into surf guitar of the 60’s, specifically Dick Dale’s middle eastern tunes. I’ve got a complete mismatch of stuff: A epiphanies les Paul II, a fender champion 20 watt amp, and a real smooth tremolo reverb pedal. Drenching everything in wet reverb and some tremolomakes my music sound close, but I feel like I’m missing an element.
There is a better way. Learn the seven natural keys in open position in this order – C G D A E B. Then string them up the neck in this order – C B A G F E D. This is by far the easiest way to see the whole fretboard and the more theory you know the more you’ll see how much freedom this gives you.
Each shape can be played two ways. three notes on the b string or three notes on the g string.
Connor Baker
Be honest with yourself, could you really do better than that if you had a face like Lemmy?
Well, the fretboard already looks as dry and low quality as a real gibson
Hunter Allen
a better question is how overblown is the girls like guitarists meme? i'm not sure if anyone here can actually answer that
Sebastian Cruz
Is Ebm - Db - Ab too medieval sounding for a chord progression?
Julian Rivera
I was in this dive bar once. Some local band was playing. Oldest member couldn't have been over 19. Anyway, the guitarist was some kid barely 18, playing a vintage 70s Strat. His mom and her friends made up most of the crowd. His mom was completely groupie-ing all over him. Like she was at a Foghat concert in the 70s and wanted to bang the guitarist...except it was her son. total incest vibe.
Julian Turner
Yes, never play medieval music
Nathan Cruz
Considering the massively overinflated ego of your average lead guitarist, I'm going to go ahead and guess that it's pure fabrication
Art thou bothered, gnave? Thou'st cannot fathom the affection shower'd upon those whom profess the craft of lutistry. Wench and maiden alike are left aquiver in the wake of one of my delicate sonnets.
I'm going to buy a guitar and bass, just take turns alternating until I learn a decent amount and decide which I'd like to become proficient at.
I guess I'll just go with yamaha since they're a good price point in bongland and I have other things from them.
What are decent yamaha bass and guitar models to start with/consider?
Jace White

Tyler Ramirez
How is your Sunday going /gg/?
I just realized I've been making actual progress as a complete beginner and that it's already going better than all the other times I've tried learning guitar. Really feels like I'm actually learning as opposed to just doing things.
Not that guy, but lately I have been keeping my tele tone knob at 5-10% for that warm jazz sound. It actually comes through quite clear at those levels, but any less than 5% gets muddy/underwater sounding. I dime the amp bass knob btw
Levi Russell
are suhr guitars worth the money?
Josiah Bennett
Bump. Anyone?
Nathan Foster
Experiencing a total renaissance rn. I've been making more progress in the last few months than in the rest of my years of practice combined. I'm gonna make it bruhs, it feels good
Seriously. What the fuck is up with Gibson? I would jump on one of those new ES-235's if the fretboards didn't looked like dried up turd wood you can buy at Home Depot.
Ethan Wright
there is an open mic tuesday but they are charging admission for talent ($10)???
Ive played a lot of these over the past 15 years and never have I seen them charge me to entertain others. I have some instrumental originals I could play but I can't help but think what is the point? I would like to do it, but the experience is not that valuable or novel and I dont know what Id get out of it
Joshua Kelly
You have to use a Marshall. You will cut through the mix like a niggers shank.
Logan Martin
>paying to get into an open mic sounds like some grade A jewery to me lmao
There are a few songs that I'd like to learn, but there are no tabs anywhere because fairly obscure songs. The songs sound "simple" enough that I think I might be able to play them poorly with a bit of practice.
Jackson Harris
what made you go to the doctor for meds though, did you just cum and think "oh fuck i might have aids"
andertons are pushing them pretty hard, as is our lord and saviour justin sandercoe. Andertons do a setup on every guitar sold
Matthew Martin
Yesterday there was a thread where someone posted a video of some jazz pianist lady who was talking about the importance of being able to play a melody that you hear... just sing what you hear and hunt for the notes, basically. Eventually you'll get better and faster at it as you do it more often.
Henry Brooks
>andertons are pushing them pretty hard Of course they are. It's their house brand.
Owen Howard
they don't own the brand, they just bought a fuckton of stock
Gabriel Bailey
then why'd you bareback and Transylvanian?
Landon Powell
No, they own it
Levi Flores
How does your mother feel about this?
Xavier Perez
I've seen them for sale in guitar guitar and PMT too
Connor Martin
so is this thread for just discussing the instrument and learning to play and diff types of guitars or like guitar focused music like american primitivism or jazzy shite?
Ian Rodriguez
Yes, because they recently bought them. They were around before that.
Evan Ramirez
Is Justin being paid off for eastcoast?
Gabriel Diaz
practice with a metronome, start slow, gradually get faster
Parker Morgan
theres a blurb from justin on the eastcoast page of andertons
Connor Ramirez
This thread is for corresponding with Samuel Campos and Roman.
Aaron Martinez
this...is good to know >slowly backs out of thread
Nathan Davis
usually just a gear circlejerk and randoms shitposting. if you have any american primitivism (besides fahey) or jazz shit you'd recommend post it
Luke Kelly
Yes. But you can contribute anything guitar and unfortunately bass related as well.
Plays good. Have it tuned to D standard to learn some Crue songs.
Jackson Cooper
d'addario 11's used ernie balls for a while but I'd rust em out too quickly. Not a fan of elixirs at all, they're literally just coated in plastic picrelat
I use regular strings for a week and they're rusted to shit. Elixir Optiwebs last me six months of playing hours every day, well worth the modest extra expense.
Nathan Morales
Pros: MOAR VINTAGE Cons: can't bend properly
Andrew Sanders
thanks it sounds great Round midnight and I'm halfway through the entire kind of blue thanks. I use the ts as a clean boost more often than full out OD
Gabriel Gonzalez
How the fuck do I stop my pinky from sticking out like a wanker when playing solos
Practice slowly while not doing it and gradually speed up. It'll be disheartening at first, but you'll have it sorted in a few weeks.
Nathaniel Jones
i wish, probably just the mark V combo if I can find one used for a decent price
Nicholas Brown
Just get an Origin Effects Cali 76 and be done with it. There are a few to choose from; they're all stellar.
Oliver Diaz
How do i learn multitasking guitar and singing at the same time? i already kinda do both but not together. im able to strum and sing simple straight stuff but always find myself stuck when trying different rhythms.
Lincoln Sullivan
Why that one? It's more than I paid for my amp.
Colton Watson
I'm not a /pol/tard, so I don't know what "redpilled" means, but that's the best pedal format compressor you can get.
>I am a newfag Compressors do exactly what it says on the tin: they make your signal more tightly packed so that they take up a more clearly defined frequency range. This can be detrimental if you're playing by yourself because you basically lose out on harmonics and overtones, but if you're playing with a band it can really help you stand out in the mix.
Connor Gray
I've been here since 2009. Keep /pol/ away from me.
how do you manage to consistently post these in every thread???
Isaiah Nguyen
how much is too much for a full maintenance? I got an old washburn and it has a bit of rust, the volume and tone controls make nasty sounds when adjusting, etc. So I'm thinking to take it somewhere so they clean it up and remove rust and whatnot.
any ideas for shedding triads/arpeggios and incorporating modulation? also trying to get more familiar with melodic and harmonic minor (i know the sounds pretty well but not reliably enough to use consistently in improv)
When strumming, you shouldn't use your elbow. Instead, rotate your wrist - like you're turning a key one way and then another.
Evan Lewis
if that's actually you in the video guitar is too low to be conducive to good form
looks like you're clenching the fretboard like a baseball bat and using a lot of big movements
ideally you'd want to be making small movements and using the big muscles near the top of your forearm for most of your fretting. The way you're doing it seems like it's more of a grasping motion and then relying on the tendons in your hands to do most of the work
picking hand also looks pretty stiff. Hard to tell exactly what you're hitting because WHAhaahAhAHahahHAHahAhahWHEEeEehwhehwehhWhahaah, but it seems like you're doing the frusc thing where you just find of rely on funk muting to keep strings from ringing while using a wider pick motion. This is fine occasionally but I wouldn't lean on it as your main way of playing.
Your overall picking technique kind of looks like you're tensing up your arm and making a jerking motion. I won't get in to the whole "playing from the wrist vs. playing from the elbow" thing because I think it's up to the player to find what works for them, but regardless you should be going for a more relaxed fluid motion. Tensing up when you play is more conducive to injury and you will not be able to play as fast compared to if you were relaxed.
in review -raise your strap height, you shouldn't be reaching down for your guitar -fret from your upper forearm, not by clenching your hand and relying on your tendons to do the heavy lifting -working on being less tense/more relaxed when playing and you'll be twice as good in a few months -didn't mention this before but practice with a clean tone if you're not. practicing with high gain or that wah tone will limit what you're hearing and restrict your melodic ideas
Kayden Price
That's exactly wrong
Easton Russell
Cool, thanks.
Hudson Gomez
Not really. >like you're turning a key ...I would say like turning a door knob.
Adam Peterson
Thank you user! I wish I could here your playing so I could give better advice. Woodshed your triad formulas while learning a piece that excersizes it. When you say incorporating modulation, do you mean modal playing?
Jason Stewart
Is it worth £60 for talkingbass beginner material or are the free videos alone enough?
absolutely based paragraph thanks for the full response.
yeah my entire picking style is really the *muting everything except the string(s) i'm playing kinda deal* atleast for the style of music i'm playing here. When i'm sitting down i play alot softer and more 'precise' in terms of the right hand, but i think thats down to the music i like to play and practice at home. and yes I play very clean when i'm practising, vid related was just one moment of a jam where i wanted to go for that frusc kinda waheeewoo texture.
That being said, i hit very hard with my right arm, that jam in the vid was about 12 minutes, I started with a fresh orange tortex and by the end it had melted to pretty much 1/3 of its original length. Is the way I tense on my right arm and the fact that i play 'hard' linked, or is it just coincidence?
thanks for the rest of the advice btw user
Benjamin Ross
do you have any video of you sitting down and playing?
Michael Allen
Give me 5 mins or so
Aaron Morris
Oh look a bunch of posts that are absolute trash made by people nobody cares about.
Joseph Scott
just report him for using an avatar and ignore him
Levi Young
Ill put it to you like this, at that price I'm sure you could get a second hand one for pennies and resell it for the same price if you didnt like it.
Try the EHX Soul Food pedal. It preserves much of the Tele's bite while fattening the sound up and allowing you to dial in everything from a little dirt to full blown distortion. Not all that expensive, either.
I don't want a drive pedal. I like my amp's distortion.
Jonathan Diaz
That's exactly the point. No reason to spend that kind of money. Didn't an original one recently sell for $4k? Fuck that noise. The Soul Food sounds fantastic(particularly on a Tele) and doesn't even cost $100.
Jeremiah Smith
>shelling out extra shekels on a meme pedal nah bitch
What kind of bizarro world must /gg/ to be living in to expect people to constantly be getting gigs AND have a good amount of disposable income? Really butters the old crumpet
You could any of the following: -be a professional musician -have a decent job -play in a coverband -have the financial responsibility to own your own gear and merch -pick up a part time job instead of shitposting
THE POWER IS YOURS
Adam Martin
>-be a professional musician (and live with your parents) >-have a decent job (and be shit at music) >-play in a coverband (and live with your parents) >-have the financial responsibility to own your own gear and merch (and be shit at music) >-pick up a part time job instead of shitposting (and live with your parents)
Adrian Long
that's the thing that gets me, see. if you have a good job and lots of gigs, what are you doing on an Armenian embroidery forum?
kek no one in gg does any of that highly accurate hey no thinking allowed pal
Henry Jenkins
any anons have experience with installing vintage style tuners into modern stratocaster necks? Gonna need to drill some pilot holes and line that bitch up to get them on properly
sorry for the speed up slow down playing, i was having a conversation whilst recording it quickly, and turns out its hard to do both of those at the same time.
is Desert Tan an translucent finish or a solid one? It's hard to tell in pics.
Noah Bell
Yeah, that's why they turn out shit

ah. so we meet again. at the fork in the road.
guitarists of the internet, you must choose wisely.
William Miller
fuck off Gibson shill
Levi Jenkins
Yui a cute and her guitar an adequate.
Daniel Sanchez
dude, this guitar is sick. i have NEVER EVER shilled gibson and in fact was the original telecaster shill for a while about a year back. but i've been looking for a humbucker guitar for months now, and when i set eyes on this enormous SG yesterday... i just knew.
