The early 90s were a bit different from mid/late. I don't know why but in music decades run from the third calendar year.

Groove is in the Heart, featuring DJ Towa Tei before his solo career
90s music suddenly changed around 1998, in 1997 you had OK Computer and Fiona Apple having a triple platinum album with her hit single criminal.
In 1998 most of the albums by commercially succesfull alternative rock musicians were flops, like Adore from the Pumpkins o Is this Desire from PJ Harvey, and Boy Bands and Britney and Christina got huge.
In a way Rock never recovered from that. Before Boy Bands around 1997 people thought that the next big thing was going to be electronic music, and The Prodigy were getting shilled a lot.
couldn't have say it better. its wierd but not even grunge survived in the long run.

you are from the UK aren't ya?. I dont remember this at all, but I think I kinda like it.
Electronic music was the next big thing... perhaps not in America.

>Before Boy Bands around 1997 people thought that the next big thing was going to be electronic music
Electronic was was already the next big thing in 88-89 in the UK and Europe, anyone who was alive during the house/rave scene will tell you this

Having listened to it I can truly understand why the band left it off of OK Computer, compared to the album itself it’s super 90’s alt rock
Gotta keep em separated

Close, but no cigar.

that's practically the 2000s tho
I was waiting for this. First 2 albums were unmitigated kino. TWM was close. The fourth one was supposed to release shortly after the godzilla single but disaster struck. They scrapped the entire album and started from scratch after the bassist bounced. The MTV studio samples with the original bassist sounded sweet. What could've been man...

I almost forgot hammer
I was there for the 90s, and desu there was so much chopping and changing even in pop that its hard for me to pin down anything as really spectacularly of that time. But I think this is a good contender because it has a couple of different bases covered:

For me this is the most 90s song. I remember this song being bigger in the 90s than it's now.
Everybody seems to think Mezzanine is the best Massive Attack album, and among casuals Teardrop has gotten much more popular than Protection ever was.
You know it
