This post is dedicated to best Steve. Creativity and fingerpicking chops will come to you, but only if you reply, "That's a mighty fine skullet, Steve!"
tried to change that but figured the highs of the J arent defined because the strings are too old
Charles Hughes
Are locking tuners worth it? I mean I've heard they help tuning stability but from what I've seen they just make string changes more easy than they already are.
i do have some tracks with minor chords but i prefer happier sounds. also i cant into 7th chords because my pinky doesnt work anymore. i think i should start learning playing lefty
Thomas Allen
on a strat with floating trem, yes on a telecaster with slinky strings and a lot of bending, yes otherwise, no otherwise I don't think so.
Isaac Myers
i use 9s on my Condor tele and i do bends all the time and still it holds in tune through an entire gig
Justin Green
>i cant into 7th chords because my pinky doesnt work anymore. wat >i prefer happier sounds no proble with that, but your melodies are using the roots all the time and it sounds a little bit predictable, imho. you could use some 'out of the chord' notes there
Eli Rodriguez
i'm pretty sure they have enough lubrication on their nuts ;)
Owen Cruz
yeah i put some pencil's graphite on it regularly and i havent fapped in two or three weeks
Gavin Ramirez
oh, samiquinho, you never disappoint me. you are the only one from these bunch of fuckers who knows how to fix his guitars.
Easton Martinez
use samuquinha instead pls did you get the fap thing? my nuts are full of tranny lube.
Ethan Butler
np, samuquinha of course i got it.

i've been using your practice routine and am at least 1% less shit Any good practice ideas for taking triads through modulations or any other triad based exercises to mess around with? Also looking for some ideas on making arpeggios more familiar, so far I've been taking two seventh chord types through the circle of fifths/fourths + shedding changes to standards I'm working on
That's the first time I've ever said it. Are you sure you don't have someone else confused for me?
Henry Long
I have to drown a bass in distortion/chorus/compression/eq etc etc, after all the effects the difference between a p and a j bass would still matter?
Ayden Collins
thank, I guess it can’t hurt to learn and buy both because even if I’d prefer bass later down the line, I’d still like to be able to have a decent grasp of chords on guitar.
If I can’t find any mim for a decent price in UK, I’ll probably have to go with Yamaha. Which would you recommend to start with so I can get my feet wet for a year or two without headaches?
also how does the amp situation work for bedroom practice with both instruments?
Tyler Adams
Hmmmmmm are you sure you're not the "Nobody cares" fag from the last thread? You're not jerking my chain, are you buddy? You wouldn't do anything like that, right? Because the way you said it, it was really reminiscent of that other guy. Kinda peculiar, innit?
If don't overdo the compression and distortion, you'll still be able to hear a difference. Even if you would, you'd probably feel how they play differently.
how much spare time you got? half hour a day will see solid progress in 1 year, putting in more time will shorten this. Try not to go too nuts at the very beginning before your fingertips toughen up
Bentley Morris
I'm just tryna defend the integrity of these threads m'kay?
whats a good tuner to drop into a headstock bored for klusons? i have some shitty kluson style things that need to go
Bentley Hughes
did you repaint it because anons ripped on the old paintjob? i am dissapoint whats up with all the filler, did you go too deep?
Christian Rodriguez
Why does it seem like the whole world wants to pretend that Nita Strauss isn't shit? Is it just because whammen?
Oliver Clark
unless you sand the bejesus out of that, the filler is going to show through your new paint. wet and dry, 1600 grit or higher. available at all good auto stores
Nathan Wright
I don't know who that is
Jaxon Diaz
>some leather blonde 80s relic Women are memes ahahaha
Jaxon Gray
GUITAR IS TURNING YOU GAY
Aaron Miller
I've been meaning to redo it for a while. I did a hacky job of hand-sanding it the last time so I'm re-doing it with an orbital. It's already much more smooth. All the filler is to fill in scrapes, nicks, and heatgun burns from the last refinish. Also when I got it, it looked like someone drug it behind a truck, so a lot of scratches were from that.
I plan on it. The last time I did this it was obvious where the wood stopped and the filler started. I wanted to go overboard with it this time just to make sure that doesn't happen again.
I'm cool with it relic-ing after I get it looking good from the start. But I'm not gonna be a fag and paint it, then take a sandblaster to it. That's whack. Earn your relic status.
Jack Walker
>pay $2000 for a guitar that looks like you got it from a pawn shop in the shitty part of town for $20 Boomers make me wanna barf
they should make guitars with more than 6 strings it would give people alot more options
Henry Rodriguez
Buckethead signature?
Blake Sanchez
eh, more than six and bar chords become pretty unreasonable. you gotta be able to get your hand around the entire neck to play it with a full range of common techniques... and adding a string only gives you like, 5 extra semitones. so it's not really worth it unless you're making like a 10 string guitar and djenting, which is totally different.
i've heard it called that somewhere but most actual online stores don't call it the buckethead signature.
but if buckethead had a signature SG then yes it would be this.
so many SHITTY fucking headstocks out there and i just think about who the hell has a company with employees selling real guitars that might even be great instruments, and then the headstock is just FUCKING STUPID LOOKING.
Juan Clark
>Not happy with giving himself AIDS, young Samuel proceeds to gove aids to his already cancerous made in brazil kakaster
I see it being a possibility. I really love plini's style and sound a lot, and the Prog 6 is essentially his guitar, but with a little extra. But I like playing 7 string and having that option.
How do you make those dope dissonant psychedelic moments like on Pink Floyd's Time when he says "though I'd something more to say"? Tame Impala did the same thing a lot on Innerspeaker too.
Caleb Johnson
Pure kakapicking
Easton Nelson
okay thanks Mr rat man
Daniel Powell
I think I have an issue with my strat.
Luke Clark
Yeah, it's not a hardtail HH with coilsplit options for both pickups
Chase Smith
I've got a tele for that
Charles Clark
Do you guys feel like you basically have two "levels" of alternate picking? There's a tempo up to which I can alternate pick pretty quick, but then there's this big grey area where I can't play it very cleanly or precisely, and then there's picking as fast as i possibly can, which I can weirdly do. It's like I can only alternate pick slowly or ultra fast, but not in between.
Maybe I'm a fucking retard though
Carson Nguyen
yeah. i practice how fast i can flat pick super precisely, but there's a break where it's angle picking to get any faster. two seperate picking techniques. i got the angle picking faster by practicing literally just two notes cleanly
Zachary Ramirez
nah that's normal. You just have to break it down and practice increasing the metronome through the gray area
Adam Robinson
>Maybe I'm a fucking retard though I'd say there's a high chance of that.
Lucas Torres
a good week
Adrian Barnes
this is such a subjective thing. What constitutes as "competent" for guitar? Seems pretty hard to define. I am autistic as fuck about technique and being clean. I've been playing for 10 years and I would barely consider myself competent because I can't do things like those crazy 2 handed tapping patterns
Robert Adams
don't think that gradual increase will get you there. it won't. you do improve through gradual increases in speed, but, you won't make it without 'epiphany' where you just fucking do something you've never done before by brute force
they don't come with the strandbergs that i want, and i don't want to replace the ones i would get.
So, anyone else have any experience with Suhr SSH+ or Fishman Modern Fluence?
Nathan Lee
anyone ever use Strandberg's patented ergonomic neck shape? If so what did you think of it? t. considering a Boden 7 guy
Logan Clark
hey pal, back of the line, i asked my strandberg question first
... what kind? Boden classic? Prog? Metal? Fusion? etc
Gavin Diaz
ordered this guy the other day, affinity series.
was it worth the price? I played guitar years ago but had to pawn my only guitar a while back for financial reasons, so I'm back at square one. seems like a great beginner guitar
looks great. another great gg hotrodded diy shredstick. Try some bondo up in that.
Jaxon Turner
and no one's answered? disheartening. Looking at the prog model. Left handed so limited availability for me or else I'd get a model with the True Temperament frets.
Kevin Hernandez
ah, so we're looking out for the same thing. I've just autistically been trying to watch videos about all the strandberg shit and the pickups they come with and trying to make a decision from that, but when it's 2400 bucks i really wanna hear more before I buy.
Jordan Rogers
Chinese. Shoddy qc. Terrible brittle pickups. Should have gotten a Classic Vibe or Vintage Modified if you were gonna go Squier.
Parker Hughes
If you can cancel your order, I would and go ahead and get a Classic Vibe or a used MIM Tele. Affinity series guitars are pretty bottom of the barrel quality-wise.
Jack Jackson
Are there any kits that end up being better value than what you could just buy for a little more or is it pretty much just something you do for the experience of building a guitar?
William Diaz

Was hoping someone could be real with me and let me know if I could mod some cheap squire to being close to the JMJ build. Granted, I've never done any work on a guitar before, and all my gear are hand me downs from my older brother
Why make you dreams wait when you can grab them today?
Carpe diem, brother!

Owen Lewis
25.25" is the perfect scale length
Prove me wrong
Elijah Stewart
Yeah... does that make me a guitar tourist? I've only ever owned some shitty line6 amp and an epiphone SG. If I'm being honest I've never really played on nice gear, so I don't know what I'd even prefer.
Know it'd be nice if I had a trem
Logan Cruz
Not at all. Pay what you like and everyone else be damned.
Jack Gomez
Different user here, I was in your same position before. I went from a really fucking shitty ESP to an ibanez. For me it's always really hard to tell what I want in the moment. Even as I try other guitars.
I will tell you that making a big ass purchase like that does help "force" you to get used to it because you feel obligated after that point. At least for me it was like that
appreciate it guys, definitely feels like a tough spot, but in all honesty, I'm still having a ton of fun playing on this Epi. I'll probably take some more time to make a decision and run my ideas/potential purchases by more people
Levi Howard
One thing to note about the Jag is that it has a scale length of 24", which is 3/4" shorter than an SG. The frets will be slightly more closed spaced, and you'll need slightly lighter strings to achieve the same tension. You should try one out at a guitar shop to see if it will even feel right to you.
Julian Long
pretty uncommon scale length
Nolan Wright
I live around the corner from some vintage guitar shop, but he actually doesn't have any jags oddly enough
Jayden Myers
Does anyone actually use extended range guitars for things that aren't cringey djent or noodley new age music?
Gabriel Perez
There is no meaningful sound difference in electric instruments anyway assuming they use the same electronics.
Angel Green
25.6" is the undisputed best scale length, followed by 25.5"
Brody Campbell
For me, it's 25.515"
Ryder Hughes
>She isn't listed on the featured artists page on ESP's website The absolute disrespect.
>Was hoping someone could be real with me and let me know if I could mod some cheap squire to being close to the JMJ build. Granted, I've never done any work on a guitar before, no, between the parts and cost of labor to get everything right it will not be comparable. The cheapest squier you'd want to go with is the classic vibe or the vintage modified which are $400 new/~200ish used. Parts will run you another few hundred.
If you're in the states keep shopping around the used market and save your money, don't give in to an impulse buy and don't fixate just keep practicing
Matthew Barnes
very similar. th eIbanez Blazer is a grail bass for me.
Though maybe because in reality their VAs suck at guitar and ended up being overshadowed by the backing band. Saechi is the only one of them that's any good at it, iirc.
I’m the same guy who couldn’t decide between learning bass or guitar yesterday
how comprehensive is justinguitar/scottsbasslessons stuff for the first year or so?
I can either learn one and start with a better quality of instrument or learn both but it means I’ll have to use lower end yamahas/squiers, does this really make a difference or is gear a meme?

Not an option with my backwards work hours unfortunately.
It’s a question of what first, really I’d like to learn both, am I better off spending £300 each on both right now and learn at the same time, get comfortable for a year or two and then choose what I’d really like to play from there or just £500-600 right now on a guitar since I can probably do more alone so like a MIM fender or Pacifica612 and hope I’ll get good enough so a lot of what I’ve learned can transfer to learning bass?
I want to buy a strat. Looking for something around 600eu. Player series looks interesting. Is there anything better?
Chase White
i dont like it, so your statement is wrong

it's made in indonesia, youre wrong again

four voice movement is hard to study on guitar. You need to be a proficient player to do so and it's way easier on the piano. If you want to study harmony, buy yourself a keyboard.
How do I get my fingers to not hurt. I've been playing for half hour and it feels like I was testing the sharpness of a knife with the tips of my fingers. Beginner btw.
Practice for half an hour at a time tops, then take a break if it starts to hurt too much. Your fingertips don't have calluses yet, it's completely normal.
Cooper Bennett
Is it a meme that guitar to bass will mean you will always be shit at bass or can you learn both and not play bass like a guitarist?
Ethan Moore
No, unless you're planning on touring with a prog metal band 6-string basses are a waste of money. Save and get yourself a good quality 4 string and trust me you'll be golden. Plus string changes on extended range instruments are a pain in the arse because of the extra cost and more limited supply
Ian Morgan
Depends on how you approach it. If you're starting off playing only root notes with a pick you're gonna suck ass.
William Thompson
You're not supposed to touch the metal directly. You know that right?
If you have to “drown the sound” to even get it to sound remotely good, it’s complete shit to begin with. Re-record the part until it doesn’t suck.

Let’s put it this way: He’s such a greedy guitar player that he barebacked a tranny for his art and now has AIDS. Not joking.
Affinity series is “it looks like a guitar, so Mama bought it for Junior” tier. They don’t have near the quality that the Squier Classic Vibe line does for just $75 more.
Noah Rogers
No. The big companies get price breaks from all of their suppliers that smaller operations just can’t get thanks to placing huge orders for all of their stuff. When you order 250,000 potentiometers at a time, you can get them dirt cheap. Same with switches, body and neck blanks, paint, trem bridges...you get the idea. Make your own and you’ll pay roughly twice as much for something of comparable quality. More than that if you also count your time.
Leo James
Much cheaper, and the parts to do the mod aren’t hard to find.
Prepare your anus. It’s going to be confiscated.
Stick with the four string for now. For all but the top .001% of players, 6 strings are a complete meme-they’ll never use them to its full potential. Even 5 strings are mostly unnecessary unless you’re playing downtuned metal. 99.5% of bass stuff can be covered by a 4-string, and that’s where you should focus for now. If you get decent, find you like playing bass and want to expand into other stuff, then go for it down the line.
Charles Watson
Probably an unrelated problem like you have a burr in your saddle, and it would have broken anyway.
