as a vocalist, I would say, while classical has without a doubt extremely talented vocalists, they are far from versatile. Many opera singers I'm familiar with are not as strong or as comfortable doing much outside of operatic styles/techniques. I would absolutely agree that metal has the most versatile vocalist for sure, there are plenty of vocalists within metal that are on par with opera singers melodically/in the traditional singing sense, and likely even have the spectrum of harsh vocal techniques (everything from the ability to apply subtle distortion, to full on screams and growls) to their name. Many opera singers (in my experience) have incredible coordination with straight/pure tone singing, but beyond that, unless they train in other styles, they don't have as much ability to produce a wide array of sounds, they know a select handful of coordinations really well because they need to, and that's about it
