tfw still have to restring my tele for the gig and check the zoom g1's patches in case their shitty amp dont have distortion and i have to use my multifx

I hate the blues and shred boomers but the faux jazz faggots with their neosoul and fusion shit will be unbearable once they reach memestatus and old age like their predecessors
Hell yea, been thinking about doing this to an old jazz bass I’ve got. No idea what color though. I’d say so, I wouldn’t say they’re as bright as GK or Genz-Benz but definitely brighter than Ampeg or Aguilar.
Julian Bell
HAVE YOU MADE YOUR DAILY BLOOD OFFERING TO THE SPIRIT OF EARL SCRUGGS TODAY? HE PREFERS YOUNG BLOOD, I USE STRAY KITTENS HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Any tips/tricks for guitarfags who are starting to learn bass? I can't seem to quite nail muting strings when I'm playing with my fingers, I can do it just fine with a pick though.
Ryder Russell
I bet even Samuel could do a better job than this. Sad!

great reasoning! thanks for your constructive criticism
Aluminum necks are vastly inferior to wooden necks from a tuning stability standpoint.

I'm copping that sweet SVT tone with my SansAmp VT Bass DI looking to get a dirtier sound. The gain on the pedal is good and all but I'm looking to add another pedal to the parallel output, I'm between ZVex Basstortion because it's modeled after an SVT or an Earthquaker Devices Acapulco Gold because I've heard they sound sweet through an Ampeg.Open to suggestions.
Kevin Kelly
Nobody actually pays any attention to the root notes you play. You don't need pedals.
AW H*CK YEAH BROTHER WHEN I PLAY THE 'JOLELE I FEEL LIKE A GIANT HAHA WOOOOOOOOO

I'm so sick of fucking anime. I get its an anime website but fuck why do we need anime girls on everything. And worse its invading other, better types of drawing and animation, Why must that shitty aesthetic invade everything? Every time I see an anime girl I just instantly hide the thread unless its a general.

Holy fuck EQ is a miracle. Now I can actually hear the guitar layers. How does this sound? instaud.io/3kZg How the fuck do you even name instrumentals?
I never really listened to Slipknot back in like middle School when all my friends did but I actually kind of like them giving them a listen after all this time. Why is this
Dominic Cook
Nice sample size, and nice documentation of what preparatory work went into the guitar before he played it on stage there. is an accurate post.
Wyatt Sullivan
Try double tracking your layers a bit but do it with a slightly different tone that can somewhat compliment the original. But nice job with the eq/stereo work, everything was fairly clear and defined, just each part sounded a bit thin
Ian Martinez
lmao keep crying NPC

So much this. The *ONLY* thing shitty trolls and tripfags can't stand is to be ignored. Everyone in /gg/ should give pic related a try for two or three weeks and watch what happens, they'd be so amazed. Common sense says once you've recognized a problem the next step is to take action but in this case it's actually inaction for the most part because things works weird like that on Yea Forums. Reporting off-topic shitposts, ignoring on-topic shitposts, and hiding them works every time. >out of sight, out of mind These threads could be so much better but everyone involved would have to show some self-restraint in order for that to happen.
Just keep in mind that you make a choice every time you choose to reply, just make better choices. It's that simple.
I've had guitars for years and years (since I was a kid), I'd strum a few chords and play a few riffs and be content as I didn't really listen to that much technical music. I recently decided to get good at this, learn some theory and actually play some intermediate level songs, nothing too intense like performing.
I've been trying to learn a single song for at least a couple of months now, practicing an average of an hour a day (won't play for 3 days, then I'll play for 3-4 hours like today).
I'm still struggling to progress and get that one song down however, is this normal? It's nothing extremely shreddy but it's got some parts with long stretches, fast chord changes and a lot of slidding and a bit of tapping even, things that I generally never worked on.
Is this progress too slow, should I give up? I really want to do this but it's disheartening...
Brandon Scott

i just did an edit of that image to make the same point a few weeks ago. an attentionfag can't exist without you in the equation. remove your attention and they die. all you have to do is make a conscious decision to let them die
>people are responding unfavorably to my bullshit >I can't be wrong, it's gotta be just one guy! you're redditing up my boomer dick measuring thread, why don't you go back to /r/guitar or something
>be me >look to see when Sam last posted >17:33:16 >Brazilian tranny fucking retard has things to do during the weekend and I don't wtf am I doing wrong with my life senpai this is bullshit
Indeed, the newfag truly is ruining this general. If we set our names to things like the, is, and, etc he'll have to filter a large number of posts to avoid namefags
apart from the dogshit recording quality, I'd say that you could stand to work on your rhythm. sounded like you were randomly speeding up and slowing down

You seem upset user, am I upsetting you? I know that accepting the truth can be difficult if you've already made up your mind. It's okay, I know that one day you'll come around! ;)
i've been using your practice routine and am at least 1% less shit Any good practice ideas for taking triads through modulations or any other triad based exercises to mess around with? Also looking for some ideas on making arpeggios more familiar, so far I've been taking two seventh chord types through the circle of fifths/fourths + shedding changes to standards I'm working on
Because I drunkenly sanded it by hand and the finish was sketchy as hell. I'm considering just repainting it the same color. But I'm also looking at other colors since I have the option.

>/gg/ - Guitar & Bass General >hardly any discussion about guitar or bass
im not playing flats reeeeeeee 11/10 nice cat great color pickguard combo
James Green
Yeah id rather use it but it has this huge gap that you can see straight through to the motherboard thing. I guess these wine red active deluxes came with these stock but this one just doesnt fit perfect.
it happens, mang looks pretty damn modified, what pickups are those?
Jace Ward
I think just stock active deluxe ones. The G used to be quiet until i put higher gauge (medium ddadario flats) on it. Same with my Tele, once I put 11's on it actually sounded good.
Levi Hall
oh i didnt know fender started using single poles on the active pickups, what the fuck
Ryan Evans
>what do you want to play I'll take that as "What do you play". Folk, Shoegaze (So they say), Noise, Alternative and "Indie"

assuming you have pedals already id try to find a used fender twin. it can truly do anything besides metal if you put the right pedals in front of it. the silverfaces can be found used for some really great prices. check reverb and ebay
Adam Cruz
I'll consider it Thanks

Whats a good compliment to the EVH bridge pickup on a HSH guitar? Also has anyone tried those Harley benton fusions yet? Between the floyd rose and tuners it seems like youd make money buying it. There has to be something seriously wrong at that price point.
Sebastian Cook
Considering the electrical outlets on the wall are north american, the language on the stickers seems to be french, and the $ sign is used, i would guess leaf dollars
Luke Perry
Actually, while he wasn't particularly helpful about it, aluminium necks really are a bad idea. Most wooden necks require a new setup with significant environmental changes because they react to heat and humidity. Aluminium is so sensitive to temperature changes that it's very difficult to keep the guitar in a stable setup, let alone in tune, even if you stay in the same country/season.
I would check the guitar and avoid it if it has an aluminium neck.
Oliver Johnson
How long have you been playing /gg/? And how long did it take you to get reasonably good
Camden Lewis
12 years. I'll tell you when I find out.
Jace Reyes
what options do I have if I want a guitar for everything else it has but the neck is a disgusting yellow gloss finish and the headstock is laminated?
Gavin Edwards
If it has a bolt-on neck, just get a different neck. If it's one-piece, throw the whole guitar in the trash and get a new guitar.
Hudson Roberts
it’s an upper end Pacifica and buying new already makes that expensive enough without a new neck
I could just upgrade one of the low end models but I’d basically change the whole guitar and I’m not sure if it’s worth doing if it means I’ll like the look. as far as I know I’d have to upgrade the jack plate, pickguard, all pickups, nut, tuners, trem, saddle, so basically the entire fucking guitar just to lose that gloss neck hopefully for the same cost
24 years. I was playing in bands after a year and a half.
William Miller
bass 3 years, good after sub 1 year guitar 2 years, good after 1.5 years (oops)
haven’t joined a band because most players don’t know music theory, making ideas incredibly difficult to communicate and honestly many aren’t committed so i just became a multi instrumentalist
How much should i be spending on a compressor pedal? I dont mind dropping a decent bit of cash but surely theyre all going to be kinda samey from like 70 onwards
Landon Perry
the only guitar teacher near me teaches classical guitar
is it worth going to if I want to learn electric or can I get far enough using online resources which are free/paid?
Liam Ortiz
is it easier to learn guitar then bass or vice versa?
Jonathan Lee
i definitely had a harder time learning guitar but i never felt demotivated during the process and i am actually glad i learned bass first because it makes the basslines i write not sound like the role was given to a shitty guitarist
Jose Cooper
what would you recommend to start with if I can’t decide and most likely playing alone?
Joseph Barnes
bass >basics are easier >bass amp can eventually be used as a guitar amp, bass can’t into guitar amp >improve rhythm, something many guitarists don’t know shit about >most bands can’t find a bass player, making you valuable >groovy bass parts makes the pretty girls dance for you
Liam Moore
Should I get a classic vibe tele or spend a little more and get a MIM tele?
Honestly think the classic vibes are way better than the mexicans. Suprised you found one for cheaper than a MIM actually
Connor Nguyen
thanks did you learn with a teacher or online? do you think learning both at the same time could work or would it interfere with each other? is there a lot you can do alone should you not find a band?
learning with a teacher isn’t an option for me but are there any highly recommended free/paid online resources which are well structured?
Noah Gray
My classic vibe is so much better than my classic player strat which is double the price.
Matthew Long
i’m completely self taught, i’d assume both would work fine but i can’t answer that because i’ve never been in a lesson room >scott’s bass lessons >joe rocha 60 second bass >musiccollegetv bass i’m going to be honest i did not follow a strict curriculum but i immensely recommend the 3 channels i listed above. if you don’t find a band you can still technically fiddle around with a drum loop and throw chords on it but unless you know music theory songwriting will be hard. it can be done without it, but learning basic theory makes everything much much easier.
Nolan Parker
couldn't you just refinish the neck?
Liam Scott
Is there any sensible reason a guitar should cost this much?
okay, so I play a lot of guitar. The c major chord is my favorite chord and i like that the c major scale is c d e f g a b
Does it bother anybody else that there's a huge difference between someone farting with no kaka in their butt vs. somebody farting with kaka lodged in their butt? it's like a loggy smell that farts up through your nostrils. You literally smell air that has wafted by somebody else's kaka and picked up particles of assy shit.
Also, i'm thinking of getting a telecaster. Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger?
Jacob Butler
Telecasters aren't for retards like you. Dean is more your style.
Zachary Price
Why is complete mastery of the fretboard so hard?
Eli Smith
just print out a fretboard with notes and tape it to your computer, that's what I do.
Also, i bought a hollowbody so that I could sneakily sneak logs of my own shit into the guitar for that genuine kaka sound. I can post a vocaroo if you would like.
Cameron Scott
what is the meme about deans?
Jordan Diaz
For every hour you let go by without total dedication to advancing, there are a hundred people out there that are totally dedicated, those are the people that will get the gig
Justin Gray
>dreamed that I was listening to a song on tv >catchy as fuck but neither me or my brother's ex gf who sings could point out what song it was >woke up with the main riff and the chorus >first time ever I actually wake up remembering the fucking song (parts) >it sounds like a kid rock/kiss country rock power ballad Oh well, if it's a hit then who cares. How do I find out if it already exists? Already googled the lyrics and came up empty.
Jaxson Stewart
How long would it take to learn every pattern in this book?
I noticed my legs weak and shaky and I was afraid of doing larger dance moves and jumping around but I played my parts well and the gig went fine. Then I was unable to trade a minute of words with the drummer's female friend and they just turned their back
Thanks, I'm so motivated now
Why didn't you ask the kiss fan here? I'm offended and won't help even if you ask now.
Speak for yourself
No. Go ahead and kys kaka poster.
After two years I already could play kiss alive!
Try "you sound so shreddy!!"
Idk, I don't know pedals because I didn't need one to gig last night.
Thank god Jcumfag/Lmao isn't on the discord.
Fuck yeah I first gigd after two years and it was great. I'm thinking of joining a second band because it's so rewarding. It increases the chances of some girl kissing me after the show despite my flaming depression and antisocialness. >oh maybe if I get another band I'll finally get to kiss a girl
Page used middle position of two pickup guitars all the time and so do I for cleans.
Can I replace my pickups without soldering to the pots? I don't want to have to wire my jaguar from scratch. Would prefer to just wire the new wires to the old leads.
Hudson Garcia
Dean
Caleb Mitchell
It's worth it. A real teacher will always be better than online resources. Even if you don't want to play classical guitar now, you might enjoy it down the road. Most techniques you can transfer to your electric noodling at home anyway. Fusion music is coolest music.
>should i buy a blues driver? yes the muff into a blues driver is gold. i would actually recommend either the waza edition or the keeley phat mod for more of that bottom end
>pic very related speaking of muff + plus overdrive, post your favorite pair of pedals. you know that ones when you combined them make that magic sound.
How do you guys stay motivated to practice? I just learned about Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 hour rule and realized how much i’ve been slacking, have to make sure that doesn’t happen again...
i was practicing my bass just now when i accidentally pressed the headstock against a table and it amplified the bass loudly. does that mean it's good wood and i should make a guitar out of it?
haha try better, loser. i have the best vibrato of all of /gg/.
go for intervals for they're easier to memorize visually and mentally
because youre not pressing it correctly idiot. why would it be? magical reasons?
>it sounds like a kid rock/kiss country rock power ballad maybe hard luck woman?
You’re just going to have to play both and decide which one you like better, and invest the most time in that one. If you have already done that, just pick which one will be more beneficial to you. I wouldn’t suggest investing equal time into both, bc you’ll only be alright at both, instead of being great at one which is the better choice imo
I couldn’t be more on the fence if I tried. How do I know which is more beneficial to me?
Nolan Lopez
Bass is more beneficial if you want to play with people, guitar (specifically acoustic) is better for playing solo
Aiden Butler
Sam is the best player is gg
Christian Gonzalez
>my lead guitar was as quiet as the bass, and the singer's out of tune guitar was the loudest thing fuck reee

make sure to eq your entire band before a show, i too learned this the hard way
Henry Mitchell
we did a check before the show along with the club's tech
Tyler Roberts
next time i'll be very clear with the club's sound guy that i am the lead player and that my guitar should be louder than the other.
Samuel Lewis
based sound guy keeping lead guitarists in check
Joshua Ward
You won't succeed unless you enjoy it. There's no end goal here, just play if you enjoy mastering this skill and you eventually get there, if you don't enjoy it you never this you're better served getting another hobby.
Oliver Phillips
Just think about what you want to get out of learning to play, if you wanna be in the spotlight and be a songwriter guitar is probably the way to go (writing with a guitar is a lot easier then with a bass) if you want to be a support role bass is better. Or if you’re planning to make a career out of this playing guitar might make it an easier road.
Lincoln Flores
>Starting back out on guitar after giving up on classical ages ago >It's played on the left leg and you need a dumb footstool or your left will fall asleep from your attempts to keep it propped up >Buy guitar >Only comfortable playing resting it on my left leg >Every single fucking guitar in the world that isn't a flying V or something like it is uncomfortable and slips around too much unless you use a strap or the dumb footstool
Is electric guitar meant to be played with a strap? Playing on the right leg like all the youtube dudes gives me bad wrist cramps.
Most definitely, just get a strap. Playing without it is so annoying for me.
Oliver Hill

Hunter Thompson
at least my guitar was in tune nobody needs to hear strummed chords the entire gig over the nice lead fills

Sithu Aye, Covet.
Gavin Campbell
You might want to give the dumb footstool a chance, but you could also try pic related if you don't want to wear a strap. don't know if an electric is big enough for it to work, but it can't hurt to give it a try
i’m honestly not sure, guitar probably would be better but it probably depends as well. I would probably just look into more reliable resources since I don’t know very much about the business of being a musician
Isaiah Sullivan

Hey user. Bitch
Tyler King
good bass players who know their shit and have an airtight groove are always needed. Nobody will care about your solos as much as the guitarists but that's part of the deal.
personally learning bass and guitar together has helped me a ton. I gravitate toward guitar just because it's more in the range I hear, but learning each one helps the other. Bass will help your hand strength and groove, guitar will help with your chordal vocabulary and understanding of harmony. You can learn about harmony/theory up to a proficient level with either instrument on it's own, but there's a compounding effect when you're looking at the same thing from different perspectives.
You'll more than likely gravitate toward one or the other at some point either through necessity (like your band needs a bassist) or just from preference, but if you have the money I'd say get a squier or mim fender bass and a mim fender guitar and start shedding.
quick aside, if you're going to start lessons here's a pro tip - learn your basic scales, chords, and chord progressions before you even step foot in the door from online resources and you'll save a few hundred bucks.

No. There are people who list items that they don't own yet and they put massive mark up on their shit such that they make money just for walking down to the store and buying a guitar. They do this because there are laws that prevent stores from selling new Japanese shit to filthy gaijins (no joke).
Sebastian Williams
bros why the fuck are chinese guitars so cheap? like they use the same toanwoods and shit as the other major companies and have really nice looking stains but theyre all like 300-500 ish. the only shit thing ive noticed are the pickups are usually trash

even the guitar sammy has is made in china, that means china labor is cheaper than brazilian. And how much money do you make a month sammy?
Chase Harris
cheaper labour, don't give a fuck about licensing issues
>like they use the same toanwoods and shit as the other major companies they'll use things like okoume and label it as mahogany. Once you factor in most builds use the absolute cheapest materials (softest frets possible, shoddy tuners, etc) and their cost of labor, that's why
