Perhaps as his audience increased in size he had to change his style, though your opening statement is probably not quite true either quell surprise. I don't know, maybe it's age or maybe it's your taste. Or your own disingenuousness.

the live albums are superior

Maybe you need to work at those later albums a bit more? I literally only know Albatross by him.

his old guitar tone from the 70s and even 80s is just sooo delicious... I don't know what he did to his gear but now he sounds "generic".

He fried his brain with acid. Seriously, read any of his thoughts on any issue. He's insane.

>Perhaps as his audience increased in size he had to change his style
Good artists don't let their audience dictate their sound. A good artist makes the music they want to make, and if audiences don't like it, fuck them.

so fuck you then if you dont like it anymore

Sounds like every musician ever.

His tone is noticeably good here despite the track being awful meme pop garbage

Not quite but to a degree a music fan ought to give the musician room to work with other sounds.

this song is the shit. best thing rob thomas ever did by a country mile

Thanks to Despacito, he may be able to stage another comeback hit. Maybe get some soundcloud rapper to feature on it.

>He's insane.

I've met him a few times- he is super sweet, kind and generous...but a little wacky.

>he sounds "generic".

his tone is a little different but still one of the few guitar players who is almost instantly recognizable even today...

This, if your style is consistent then your material will dry up fast.

Imagine if you were a painter who worked for years on getting good at Oil painting, and you put 10 of these paintings in a show. Then the next show, which may only come a year later, is more oil paintings. And someone says, "oh more oil paintings huh? Yeah we already saw that." and you say

>b-b-but I worked for 10 years on perfecting my oil paintings. I can't just develop a whole other style like that!!!

and the guy says "*YAWN* yeah oil paintings are boring now. Do something new and do it in one year."

on the record he only did acid once though (woodstock)

>makes 4 god tier albums in a row
I would say he released easily ten great albums in a row, actually.
>Santana, Abraxas, Santana III, Caravanserai, Love Devotion Surrender, Welcome, Illuminations, Borboletta, Oneness, Amigos
All of these range from god tier to pretty good. But yeah when an artist reaches such high standards at the beginning of his career his new work will inevitably feel more boring as years pass by.

Legend says he thought his guitar neck was a snake. That's why he's making all those weird facial expressions because he's freaked out.

Is the Santana IV reunion album any good?

Most pop musicians are musically quite limited and can only do a small number of things. And then you end up like Eddie Van Halen playing Eruption every night for decades because you don't have the skill to come up with anything different.

Santana is the goat don't ever say shit bout him again

I mean live tho

that's not what I meant, you are talking about the way he plays (his style) in that you are right, but i'm talking about just the sound or more correctly the tone he can get out of his gear (specifically live).

According to Wiki, most of the original guys are listed as still in the band (though there have been a bazilion line-ups over the years)?

Classic lineup:
Carlos Santana – lead guitar, vocals (1966–present)
Neal Schon – rhythm guitar (1971–1972, 2013–present)
Gregg Rolie – keyboards, vocals (1966–1972, 1982, 1987–1988, 2013–present)
Michael Carabello – percussion (1966–1967, 1969–1971, 2013–present)
Michael Shrieve – drums (1969–1974, 1978, 1988, 2013–present)

It's a really fun album and some of the best fanservice by a classic rock band. The songs are catchy and the solos sound great. Also features Ron Isley.
Yeah but they only toured for a couple of months after releasing the last album, I think. Santana is back with his usual band, I saw them live last year.

those are all coke faces my dude, the drummer is the one with the acid faces
