i think the smiths are the better band by a long shot, but the cure made some truly excellent records as well

depends

Well if you had to rank the top 5 albums in both of there discography what would it be

why do mexicans love the cure the smiths and depeche mode so much?

uhm IMO its the other way around

The Smurfs

The Cure

WHO EATS THE MEAT!?
I EAT ALL THE MEAT!

The Smiths only because of Moz solo work

Pornography
Disintegration
Hatful of Hollow
Meat Is Murder
The Queen Is Dead

I find myself listening to The Cure more, because The Smiths are difficult to pick back up once you've stopped obsessing over them. However I think that The Smiths have a much better discography and there are miles more shitty Cure albums/songs as opposed to shitty Smiths albums/songs. morrissey is just a better songwriter too desu

>disintegration and not faith

The Smiths even though its a tough decision

The Cure, their output is more varied, though that isn't to say that the variation always yielded great results

The Cure have higher high points and lower lows. They're more varied, and more sincere.
The Smiths are very good, and they're more consistent, but they don't reach the same highs.

The Smiths never wrote Disintegration. The title track is one of the best songs I've ever heard. The lyrics hit so hard.

The Smiths were more consistently good but i think The Cure peaked a lot higher than The Smiths did.

The Smiths

The Cure
Fuck Morrisey

Smiths - Morrissey and Marr are gods in flesh

yeah, this track and this album is better than a lot of Smiths' tracks, but they split up at the right time and never grew into fat, middle aged obscurity. Also, Johnny Marr is a better guitarist than Robert Smith and the Cure never held the same lineup for more than a couple of albums.

New Order

and then fell a lot further

>a wild contrarian appears
New Order don't really have the whole sadboi thing going, Joy Divison would be a better comparison.

The Smiths

I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THE LOVE THIS BOARD HAS FOR DISINTEGRATION, THERE ARE LIKE SEVEN SONGS ON THAT ALBUM MUCH BETTER, WHAT THE FUCK!?

Neither

definitely The Smiths
I always found The Cure a bit bloated. For example, Fascination Street -> Prayers For Rain -> The Same Deep Water is a 20 minute stretch on Disintegration that does next to nothing for me. But I wouldn't call them a singles band because songs like Untitled are genuinely incredible.

Depends what you like. The Cure defined Gothic Rock and Post-Punk, while The Smiths defined Jangle Pop.

For me The Cure definitely peaked higher and were consistent until after Wish

false dichotomy like the rest of the russian troll inspired garbage logic gambits on this website

Faith alone shits on The Smiths discography

I'd say The Cure. I'm not sure if this is a good reason, but they just have more music, therefore more good music. Their lows are certainly pretty damn low, though where The Smiths stopped before that could ever happen. I'd say that Pornography and Disintegration are better than anything The Smiths ever did, but the smiths first three albums rival anything else the cure did (however I might still take faith, and bloodflowers over them, depending on my mood). It just comes down to the have more material

Calm down there. What don't you understand about Disintegration? Its one of my favorite albums.

>Prayers For Rain
>does next to nothing
Every time I hear the chorus "You fracture me, your hands on me, a touch so plain, so stale it kills. You strangle me, entangle me in hopelessness and prayers for rain" I get chills.

Fascination Street is literally the best baseline of all time desu. Though I do agree the same deep water goes on for too long

Never listening to either one lmfao

Your loss, mate.

why not just wondering

both 6/10

The extended 12" version of Fascination Street is so much better than the album version. Right up there with the 12" version of New Order's The Perfect Kiss.

Blessed thread lmfao

The Smiths.
I dont feel anything while listening to The Cure, its just tedious for me

Serious question. Are you gay? Most of The Cure's love songs are about women. Most of The Smiths' songs are about men or they're purposefully ambiguous.

well fuck you then

this

I definitely prefer the Cure. Obviously it could be argued the Smiths were more consistent, but with a career as long as the Cure that is almost impossible.

That being said, Disintegration is better than anything the Smiths made by a long shot. I'd say that Pornography, and even
Head on the Door
are too.

>Everyone missed the joke

I like the smiths but I do t see anyone Not liking both

The Cure, 100%.
Robert Smith's guitars are 100x more memorable than Johnny Marr's Jangle Pop, but I nevertheless love The Smiths.

the smiths, definitely, for that one guitar riff in "bigmouth strikes again" alone. you know the one

The Cure
