He should have just let gilmour sing for the most part

The man is a based chad as a songwriter and musician, but gilmour is a much chaddier singer.
I’m Hey you for instance, waters isn’t bad persay, he isn’t the opposite of chad, but gilmour is just so much more chad and sells it better.

Their voices are basically identical

Not to me. Gilmour has a semi gruff sound to me and he just makes songs like money with it.

I’m not talking about range or anything. Tone. Gilmour has a chaddier tone. Was one of the coolest singers of the 70s/early 80s

He is not the best songwriter, and a lot of his songs sound very similar

Wish You Were Here is their best album because it is the least dense lyrically so there was less room for him to write bad lyrics, especially on BASEDCD (both parts), which is by far their best work ever. Even then, the lyric "Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far" is beyond lazy and slightly ruins the otherwise great song for me.

Welcome to the Machine has the most lyrics and they suck, and so does most of The Wall

also, he is an anti-semite

I agree that Gilmour is a better singer (and musician - even covering some of the trickier bass parts in The Wall) but I honestly think he's a bit too vanilla for a lot of the stuff. Great in Meddle, DSotM, WYWH for the most part, but when raw emotion, angst, and edginess are in order nobody's voice cut glass like Rodge.

Also I really do feel like one of the things that made each of their voices so good was the other. Rodge and Dave singing 100% of the time on their respective albums isn't nearly as interesting as the two of them. I still really do prefer RW's voice but that's not exactly all the time.

P.S. Rog is really in his singing prime on The Final Cut

lol I tried to abbreciate shine on you crazy diamond and it changed the first part to based

retarded meme filter

I’ve critiscised his lyrics on a conceptual level with a much higher IQ and more motivation that what I currently possess

But we’re musicians. On the level of FUCKING BASIC RHYME, he is very good. Wish you were here sucks shit by the way. I hate long synth texture guitar solo music like Shine on you crazy diamond and comfortably numb. Basic low IQ shit.

Great band tho. They have a lot of good material.

Beat me to it. Based poster is based

Wish You Were Here is their only good record you absolute shitcunt

Boo this man! Boooooo!

Shine On You Crazy Diamond is certainly easy on the ears but it's evocative and well-crafted, the instrumentation is sublime and the part where it gets slightly dissonant in the second track is really nice

I do like every song except BASEDCD, though. Have a cigar very nice, wish you were here poet tier, welcome to the machine a proto yeezus drone

*ahem, Shine on you crazy Diamond.* acronym auto corrected to BASED. When... it’s not based at all.

its a basedcd

>also, he is an anti-semite

fuck off americlap

No, that’s u. Yea Forums suffered from a lot of adhd ITT, in terms of me missing sequential details, the identity of one BASED poster, etc. me repeating said posters mistake.

But it is not a based centerpiece song. Shit like that is very easy to create once you have a decent keyboardist and obviously a very talented soloist in gilmour.

I respectfully disagree because I think the sound perfected stuff they marginally touched on in DSOTM and is the closest they've come to true prog

I agree with some things here, Gilmour could transmit a lot more emotion with the guitar than with his voice although he still had very good performances on things like the Celestial Voices part of SoS, Green is the Colour, Cymbaline, Fat Old Sun, but Roger just had that loaded and very moving delivery.
Also it's quite interesting how Roger got more range as he got older, most notably on Run Like Hell, and yes, The Final Cut

Also a word for Rick, most sweet voice in the group

Yep, two very different sides to the same coin really. I don't have anything against either, but as voices they aren't really particularly comparable or substitutable (if that's a word)

Sweet voice for sure, but just not a confident singer and really no range in terms of emotion, dynamics, or pitch. Really good at times but frankly not reliable for vocals. (imho)

>persay
Brainlet with a shit opinion, what a surprise.

Touche. Let’s take an IQ test together. It would be a fun way to bond.

Regardless, I’m a much better player, singer, and probably even at times (am I going to say this given my performance tonight...) writer.

Most people are just... ugly. Chad jr despises them

but user that's ad hominem

What on earth even is this schizophrenic Reddit-spaced post?

No it's not. I said that he's a brainlet and he has a shit opinion, not that his opinion is shit because he's a brainlet who bastardises Latin. It's a shit opinion because David Gilmour was just a hired replacement whose only talent is in creating soulless MOR crap (see: his solo career and Pink Floyd's output when he became principal songwriter). His singing is completely unremarkable.

Wew, meant to reply to re: schizophrenia.

>when he became principal songwriter
oh you must mean his wife polly samson

Your hostility masks the fact that you have no ideas. I respect performers, and I respect creators. Gilmour was good at channeling Waters.

I enjoy Gilmours singing. It sounds confident and I believe he has a good voice.

You are not higher IQ than me. Do not kid yourself. You cannot sing, you cannot play, and are probably ugly.

Even before that he wrote terrible lyrics (and music). Like Dogs of War, for example.

He seemed to always think he made better decisions for the band but when you listen to his version of Have A Cigar its really not good. Yet he still insisted that his version was better. Roy Harper did a great job.

momentary lapse of judgement is objectively bad

I was playing an acoustic solo gig, and I wanted to play some Pink Floyd, but it hit me on the bandstand, that Wish You Were Here is the only thing Pink Floyd has that resembles a "song", in a formal sense.

rogers should honestly neck himself.

this asshole is not relevant, just let him go.

see

would i be right in thinking that Dave and Rick put together most of the music and Roger was in charge of lyrics and concept?

>anti-isreal -> anti-semite
fuck off

nope, listen to More and Obscured by Clouds

pretty much, especially as the 70s wore on, but even dave lost his patience with rick by 1979. the amount of effort that went into producing The Wall album, overlapped with planning and producing the stage show, required full involvement of all the band members and for over a year rick was an absentee member and wasn't pulling his weight at all - for the album and for the stage show. after x amount of months of carrying his dead weight roger demanded he pull his shit together or leave the band and even dave, his main ally in the band, said "no offense rick but i can't even be bothered defending you, if you won't even pull your own weight". rick was indeed ousted (not during but after The Wall album and tour) and wasn't invited back, even by benevolent dave until 1994.

yeah its a pity the pros and cons screaming wrecked his voice

well, he was still pretty on for Radio KAOS (although that required no screaming), but his voice improved remarkably after ATD. i think he must have gotten some vocal coaching or therapy. he sounded like an 80yr old on ATD but 10 years later his voice was pretty healthy again. who knows what happened. james hetfield went through a similar thing, voice went to shit in the late 80s and with some vocal coaching it all came back again for another ~25 years

>easy on the ears
Is this bad?

Gilmour is the better musician, Roger is the better songwriter. Simple. When Dave couldn’t capture a song’s timbre, Roger sang on it, and vice versa. Simple.

dave is also a creative deadshit and roger actually gave pink floyd a purpose, a concept, and an impact

Yes, every album slowly morphed Pink Floyd into Roger’s creation. If you listen to interviews in 84 from both Roger and Dave, you’ll find that Dave was indifferent to it and wasn’t actually very angry at all. He explained how the band had creative differences and that he felt he needed an outlet which is why he made his first solo album. But all in all, Roger was the brain behind the band, and Dave gave it the sound. What pisses me off is the lack of discussion of Rick, and how big of a piece of the band he really was. I’m tired of the Roger vs. Dave bullshit. Without Rick, think about how boring and dry the band would be even with Dave at the helm musically? I mean the man had just went through a divorce and lost his kids when they were recording The Wall and he still nailed that album down. Nobody ever talks about Nick either. He was extremely important as well, and also very overlooked. Great drummer.

What the fuck is BASEDCD?

I honestly couldn't disagree less
