It’s a little more deeper with that and the medieval dark age themed tied into the degradation of culture/intellectualism/society caused by hypernormalization and technological advances with smartphones and social media. The 80s were a tense time where the world superpowers were threatening each other’s with nukes and the music of the time reflected how people tried to not think about those problems by dancing and having fun instead. Depression and anxiety/suicide are also a theme and we’ve seen a large immergance of people being diagnosed more and more.They’ve talked about it like this. I think we have reached an innovative plateau of creativity in music and that reflects on hip hop being the most popular genre of the decade and the rise of vaporwave/hyponogogic pop as well.
