Well Syd Barrett contributed to alot more than one album and he wasn’t kicked out. He had called Dave to come help the band after he realized what was happening to him, because him and Dave had known each other for a long while. It’s not true that he was kicked out and replaced. He was the one who initiated it, and it’s obvious in the lyrics of his solo albums that he was clearly aware of what was happening with him. Listen to Opel.

Here’s a short list of his contributions

1. Piper
2. His work on Saucer
3. His work on pre Floyd music (“The Tea Set” - they have a lot of music out you can listen to now)
4. Inspiring Wish You Were Here

And then there’s his solo albums. But I’m in the same boat as you. Syd Floyd is the best Floyd, but they’re still my favorite. I love it all.

I can see where you’re coming from but I’d have to disagree. While Robert Plant’s vocals are objectively better, I prefer the tones that Syd, Dave, Rick, Roger, and even Nick captured in Pink Floyd. They could all sing, and rather well, together or on their own, and they all had distinct sounds that fit perfectly with what Pink Floyd was working on at the time.

Pink Floyd had already made the type of music the Stones are famous for 5 years before they started making it.

I disagree, King Crimson, to me, tries to be too different and it doesn’t work. I just don’t enjoy it because I can tell they’re just being different to be different. I don’t feel a passion. Yes is very monotonous to me and they didn’t bring anything fresh to my ears besides a voice. The third group I haven’t heard of, I’ll give them a listen.

i don't really care tho I enjoy both but if you want to be technical yes there is such a thing as objectively better and worse than.... and ironically people don't really pay attention to the voices, they are perfectly fine with just a "flat" voice...

Hmm well then in that case, I’ll reply with Roger Water’s vocals perhaps being objectively better in my opinion, because he does a better job capturing tone and emotion for every song he sings on, however, Robert Plant gives the same type of performance on pretty much every song. Also since the whole band can sing, and they can sing well, I also think that makes them objectively better. All of their voices held up too, well the living members that is. They still all sound great. Richard sounded fantastic up until the day he passed. Rest In Peace.

I like both bands so please don't think i'm putting "your band agains mine"... but a good singing voice technically it's not defined with "capturing emotions" thats irrelevant to how good your actual singing is.

Syd never really fit in musically with Pink Floyd. His style was more whimsical, whereas the others leaned towards a more melancholy sound. There was nothing wrong with Syd, he just should have been in charge of a another band. Pink Floyd had different creative ambitions and motives.

Too many mediocre albums. The title of "The Greatest Band of All Time" has no space for mediocrity. This is not "The Band That Put Out the Best Music of Them All"

Syd is the best member of the band but white males make the best music of all time, by an embarrassingly astronomical margin.

Its hard to say they were better than the Beatles since the Beatles released like 7 albums in a row of really high quality stuff... that said, the Beatles never released anything that matches DSOTM and WYWH. So I’d say peak Floyd (meddle - Wall) is the best yes. If I was stuck on an island and could only listen to one band.. it would be hard to choose between the Beatles and them.

The Red Crayola, off the top of my head, is a better band. Since I need only need name one band better than Pink Floyd in order for me not to consider Pink Floyd the greatest band of all time, I do not think Pink Floyd is the greatest band of all time, since there is at least one band which I prefer. In fact, there are a great many bands which are better than Pink Floyd.
