>favorite fingerstyle guitarist? Bobby B. He's probably getting fucked in the mouth by Beelzebub right about now, but that dude had some serious chops.
do i adjust the truss rod to get the fretboard flat before doing it so i dont make a bow on the frets
Lincoln Carter
Chet Baker is good music but i refuse to listen and study it because his music is onions af >oh this woman is too much for me >oh i fall in love too easily
Matthew Jones
Use a pair of vices to straighten the fretboard flat instead first.
James Stewart
pair of what this is too complicated
Luke Sanchez
yes, star with a flat neck. you can buy or make notched straight edges for this purpose.
YOu might want to buy a fret rocker and some radius guages too
How much worse is a squier affinity telecaster than a regular MIM tele. Is there really that big of a diff? And is a squier affinity tele gonna have the bob dylan / mike bloomfield tele sound I'm looking for?
good choice. if you want to learn that shit, best to start with some old shit necks that nobody needs. crimson guitars have some nice fret levelling tutorials on their youtube, they also sell a toolkit for an extortionate price
im listening to Wes Montgomery as i warm up the soldering iron to fix the solderings of the singer's backup guitar

Most people use 60-100 watt bulbs and more than one. But get what you can afford.
Christopher Wood
depends on how much you hate your neighbours
Carter Ward
Just don't turn it up loud. I take my 120 watt head back and forth from the rehearsal studio all the time and play with it low volume at home just fine
Alexander Ramirez
Heh nice one
It's just that I'm coming from a 10w behringer starter amp and I don't know how to get good tone without everything being extremely loud with volume only at two or three on the amp
Henry Price
Most good tones take at least a 12" speaker and some life breathing into it.
Leo Lewis
Good amps are great. Being poor is overrated.
Chase Lewis
yeah because a humbucker attached to an acoustic guitar sounds the same as a humbucker on a les paul or a 335
laminated wood strats
Jacob Campbell
Does it have a gain channel, or do you have to crank it to get it to break up?. If the latter, yes, it's too much.
Christian Morales
why arent too many people here shilling their music, it's a lot of talk about gear and stuff which is cool but shill your shit. Or else im shilling my shit right here: vocaroo.com/i/s0QbK4hSWvb3
Leo Reed
>laminated wood strats I got that. But what brought it up?

James Sanders
I'm planning on getting a new guitar on my next paycheck. Having some dilemmas. I want something good for acoustic fingerpicking, but not a flat top because muh wh*te guy with acoustic guitar meme. I'm thinking about a manditar because they're sexy af imho, but also maybe an archtop. Or a resonator. I'm torn. Can I get some input? I don't wanna break the bank, I'm thinking about something in the $700 leafbucks range
because surprise surprise, 90% of musicians here are too dumb to learn how 2 ableton, let alone compose anything that gets too outside of an Am pentatonic
Brandon Jackson
personally it's because I get too into practicing to record anything. maybe I should set up to record next time I practice, it's probably a good habit to have
It has pre and post-gain control. What do you mean by break up?
Colton Bell
I've been considering one of those too. I play a lot of slide so I don't know if it would have the kind of sustain that I'd need
Connor Reyes
breakup is distortion. One channel amps only distort close to full volume (or by outside sources). For those to sound good you have to be loud. If it has a gain channel, you can sound good at low volumes. This is for tube amps. Solid state sound the same at full or low volume.

Maybe the wiper is losing contact. You're over-complicating this. Replace the pot with a good new one and resolder all of it, or just tighten and flush it with contact cleaner.
Evan Kelly
so the problem is inside the pot? what cleaner? does wd40 serve?
Brandon Ramirez
pretty ok lube
Blake Gutierrez
Acetone always for electronics and if you can’t find that water usually works
Wyatt Bell
contact cleaner
Sebastian Kelly
water works if your goal is to finish rusting shit

What are some good resources for learning 8 finger tapping, or at least tapping using more than one right hand finger? Pic related is what I fumbled around with that works best for the sound I want but in bar 3 it gets finnicky trying to hit the notes with my right hand. I'm playing with my right hand fingers parallel to the neck but I see others playing with their's perpendicular like a normal fretting hand, however that does not feel comfortable to me at all.
Go get a can of dedicated tuner cleaner. Contact cleaner is for plugs, jacks and tube sockets, and it dries completely. Tuner cleaner has a little bit of lubricant in it so the pot has a little bit of lubrication and can turn without scratching.
John Russell
whoa who would have guessed! wd40 smells like chocolate! im taking a load of it

Jackson Foster
>a pot doesnt ignite fire Not usually. But some people introduce flammable liquid.
Grayson Gonzalez
Haha, holy shit, so you're not only gonna look stupid and end up being wrong for using WD40, but you're also gonna catch on fire. This is so exciting. Put more WD40, I encourage you dearly.

Yeep, I used to work at the Gibson factory, and for what you hope to accomplish, inverting that second set will work wonders. Not very many know ab out that, but you're damn fortunate someone else was here to mention before myself lol. Now get them inverted and wrap it up with some WD40 and you're all set!

Peanutbutter?
Jace Allen
what are you saying
Adam Foster
>Is a scale basically just a pool of notes and chords that compliment each other? Yeah pretty much. Just play around with chords/notes that are in a certain key and find something you like. As a basic example, a I-VI-III-VII (in a minor key) progression works really well, especially when you play around with inversions. Also do remember that musical keys aren't rules, they're just guidelines. Don't be afraid to borrow chords/notes from other keys as well. Example of this would be how A Maj can sound nice in a progression based in E Minor even though it lacks the major third. Another tip would also be to learn to play some songs in a style that you really like and want to make your self so you can get a feel for how things work. Asides from that it's all up to how you feel like using these chords and scales that matters most.
Carson Cooper
yeah. if one eats too much peanut butter he gets bloated and swollen like you
Colton Cruz
less of a mutual compliment and more of a set with unique characteristics and charisma. Example, the main focus of phrygian is that it is full of minor intervals (b2, b6, b7) giving it a very accidental, perhaps may I say MIDDLE EASTERN feel. Remember that these are toys at your disposal to play with, dive into the deepest end of them and then pick what sticks and what does not.
Remember one thing tho, rhythm always over melody.
Caleb Edwards
I concur, invert the strings!

Whenever you guys practice or play live do you move around, jump around and have fun? Or is it strictly sitting only? Also thoughts on bands that jump around live? When I practice bass I can't sit still or I'll get bored, I have to move around.
The end goal for any musician is to enjoy what they're doing. So many people of today's music culture think primarily about how they look, how expensive their gear is, and what people will think of their complex rhythms/riffs (because gone are the days of being able to get away with playing simple stuff and still get attention).
All that matters is that you are having fun, so if you have to jump around to enjoy it, then do it. Life ends for everyone some day, make what you can of it.
Jose Young
I'm gazing at my shoes.
Jose Sullivan
Are expensive guitars a meme? There is a nice looking hollow body based on a Gretsch which is 1/3 of the price, but the same materials are used for the wood, the pickups I can change later.
Lincoln Kelly
>Are expensive guitars a meme?
From somebody who has recently purchased a $2400 guitar (70% of everything I had in my savings at the time), yes, expensive guitars are a meme and NOT because *I* personally feel like I spent too much on it, no, that isn't it.
The quality of the instrument is fabulous but I could have bought other guitars in a lower price bracket (say $800 - 1200) that would have played just as smoothly and sounded just as good. Recently I purchased a new MIM Fender Player Series strat and it is a fine instrument for anyone's needs. I almost bought an American made one but it wouldn't have made me a better musician, it wouldn't have made other people think more highly of me either. Buy the cheaper guitar, dude. You WILL be happier that you did in the end.
This hobby is a consumer addiction, don't let it get the best of what should be your real financial focuses in life.
Dang, thanks for your wise words, helped me a bunch. Cheers!
Kayden Reyes

same theory as any other music, just play like a sad faggot
It can. A coil tap usually turns one side of your humbucker off, giving you a singlecoil. It’s a single coil that’s not designed to be used by itself, so the sound isn’t going to be exactly like a Strat. But it’s a singlecoil nonetheless, and some coil taps can sound great.
Nathan Watson
theres a lot of inaccuracies when describing coil taps. what you describe is a coil split, the humbucker is cut 50/50, a coil tap adds a signal output midway through the winding of a single coil.
Mason Torres
It’s not. With custom guitars, it never is.
Ten years from now you’ll be trying to sell it, nobody will know what it is because there’s nothing on the Web about it. You’ll think that if you can educate people maybe you’ll get more money for it, so you will try unsuccessfully for another decade. Eventually you’ll give up and take a huge loss just to get rid of it
Levi Peterson
Does the shape of an (electric) guitar influence the sound it produces? ie, do a LP sound different to a Strat due to the shape of the wood?
I know it does with classical guitars due to how it creates sound, but is it the case for electric? Also why do I see so many Strats as opposed to LPs?
t. beginner that bought a Les Paul style guitar
Kevin Martin
I can't sequence guitar scale patterns anymore have I had a stroke?
Landon Walker
Dunno about the shape exactly but I know volume of wood does - sgs are thinner and sound thinner, V's neck pickup sound different because there's less wood around it
Camden Robinson
I've been doubting I had a stroke too. Shit sucks
Lucas Watson
There is nothing more amateurish sounding than a sequenced scale. Play intervals, faggot
instaud.io/3kOG >rock/metal/dunno Added some more interesting drums and I reckon it's about finished now. Just gotta figure out how to make a good sounding mix. God I wish I could drum for real. Manually programming them down to the velocity of each midi note is a fucking pain in the ass and not intuitive at all. For a retard that only picked up a guitar 2 years ago I don't think I did too terribly.
Wrong door bro, the shilling thread is over there You can send the stems for me to mix it Don't forget to hit the humanize button for the drums
Thomas Rivera
Don't play them in a pattern. That's retarded. You should prehear every line before you play it. Otherwise, it's just masturbation.
Jason Allen
Stop posting this disgusting picture on every thread already
Camden Watson
>anonymous instaud.io >shilling How would that work? Just looking for some feedback man. Why don't you go bang another tranny
Henry Martin
What's a good software to record my tasty licks?
Leo King
Not necessarily,
1) playing sequences are good warm up practice 2) they help to remember unusual sounding musical patterns (at least 21, let alone modes) 3) some sequencing patterns are good compositionally as 'two steps forward one step back' da-da-di-da - da-da-di-Da , is similar to language patterns so it makes more sense to practice sequencing than playing every note in ascending or descending order, which would be no real practice at all. 4) If you can't sequence when composing or improvising you'll never be able to use that technique ever, what a waste.
there.
Wyatt Mitchell
Will a good guitarist be able to make pleb tier guitars sound great?
What are other first guitars to consider around the same price range as fender player?
Josiah Myers
Ah, so scale patterns. I know and play quite a few.
Yamaha Pacifica
Christian Collins
>previously on Twin Peaks >Ah, so scale patterns. I know and play quite a few. Yes, interesting orders to play the notes of a scale pattern in. I was told it is called sequencing. Not to be confused, I suppose, with musical sequencers, which I've no idea what they are.
>Is a scale basically just a pool of notes Yes >and chords that compliment each other? Yes, but you can use chords outside of the basic 7 chords (I,ii,iii,IV,V,vi,vii) of a scale
>How do you go from scales to writing your own music? Personally what matters in songwriting for me are the progressions, chord types, rhythm, melody and arrangements. Don't sweat too much about which scales used in a song
Eli Wilson
It is a pattern of notes played up or down. Perhaps you're using "pattern" to refer to scale shapes?
Aaron White
There any duo vocalist/guitarist here? How do you do a good rock scream? Is it just a "fuck it" attitude where you just need confidence to belt it out?
Yeah. A fuck it attitude helps. Grab a beer and just sing and play for people. Don't take yourself serious and really do your best for each song. You will do fine user
Zachary Reed
>Grab a beer guess it's a good thing I finally found a beer I like recently then
David Jackson
It just loosens me up. Just don't become a drunk and a beer won't hurt
Caleb Hughes
>symmetrical vs asymmetrical clipping overdrive which one do you use?
I hate to be a killjoy, but you can easily do serious damage to your voice screaming and should consult a teacher if you're going to do it regularly. A one off will be fine, of course.
Lincoln Morris
Asymmetrical i believe
Juan Cooper
yeah, I know all that stuff already. I'm just curious if there's a trick to it beyond just going for it
Connor Morales
You can download the screaming tutorial and watch guides on youtube

Matthew Russell
So these are the two kinds of distortion? What does it mean, what is an example of each?
What you think that the teacher would teach you fuckin prick
I get throat pain when I sing high (or try to) and sometimes even a taste of blood especially when I try to do distortion or screams. I haven't lost pitch range tho. Someone told me my larynx goes up for the high notes and that just creates to much tension.
Eric Clapton plays the melodic hook of "Layla" using his pointer, middle, and ring fingers. I can do it using only my pointer and middle fingers. Am I doing something wrong here?
Liam Thomas

Those infinity inlays really rustle my jimmies.
Obviously you know where your hands are: inlays are to aid other guitarists in playing with you.

If you want your hand to look like someone else's you have to practice that

Joshua Moore
No, I mean I get the feeling I'm either overextending my middle finger, or I'm setting myself up for some sort of awkward transition where my fingers will "trip" over one another while playing another part of the song.
Carson Howard
Dont let your dreams become memes user, get a flat top. Besides, the white guy with guitar meme extends to all guitars, not just acoustic. Nothing else matches that organic resonance and those overtones, especially with slide.

man for that same amount you could buy yourself a great amp, some cool overdrives, an ableton license, an ounce of weed and still sound 10x better than whatever that guitar could ever bring by itself, not to mention you'd still have some spare change left.
don't leave us hanging tho, show your AXE

Fender. Always Fender
Jaxson King
knowing the fretboard is going to help, but you're going to have to learn a lot about left/right hand techniques. If you're playing with a pick, I suggest you stop for now since you're likely already competent with it, and instead focus on finger style and slapping

"Pattern" is usually used to describe how the notes of a chord, scale, or arpeggio form a picture on the fretboard.
Parker Parker
No. The design of the pickups and how much all of the individual components absorb energy (or don’t) is the reason every individual guitar sounds the way it does. The more energy is absorbed by the components, the less treble will be in the final sound.
For instance, plastic nuts at the top of the neck are much softer than bone, and will absorb more high frequency sounds. Same with pickups that are too high (magnetic pull dampening the strings), as well as bridges and tailpieces that are loose and can rattle. The main way pickups influence the sound is called inductance. Pickups are just coils of wire wrapped around a magnet, and the more coils, the higher the inductance of that coil. The more inductance, the more high frequencies it blocks. This is why a lot of high output super-overwound pickups are often described as sounding “muddy”. They have so much inductance that all of the higher frequencies are removed from the signal.
The main reason you see so many Strats vs LPs is because of cost. LPs are true high-end instruments costing multiple thousands of dollars. Strats are priced much cheaper than LPs for an equivalent USA-made example.
Adrian Moore
Well you're still a loser in the U.S
Too bad I still buy cheaper guitars and they still take literally all my money.
Wtf you make 2.4k in a month in the us/europe
Liam Myers
Put your trip back on, not everyone is this thread is American.

No, that's widely known as "shapes". As in chord shapes, scale shapes.
