Maybe you don't know the interesting story. Way way way back, at the London Chess Club (I think), some new cool, hand-carved, red colored pieces were purchased. Back then, either black or white could start first, and it was done by a coin-flip or choosing a hand which had a pawn in it to decide first move. Everyone wanted to play with the new red (black) pieces, and there was even a fight over it. This would not do! So a rule was implemented: you could play the red (black) pieces, but if you did, you had to move second. And that's how the tradition was born that White always moved first. Not because White was preferred, but because of the popularity of the red/black pieces!

Billiards is a better race war simulator anyway. You divide the non-white balls between mixed and solids, then each player takes turns removing as many of the offending non-whites from the board as they can on their turn and they get penalized for the white ball leaving play, or for not saving the blacks for last. Finally, when it's down to black and white only... you auto-lose if you hole the white cueball. This is why billiards remains the best and most accurate race war simulation that exists.
