I'm going to the US for the first time and I need to know under wich circumstances I'm legally allowed to not tip, I don't want to get into trouble

never tip, safest bet. Literally, any meal or drink is eligible for a tip. It's only expected of you when at a restaurant that's not fast food. I don't think it's ever illegal to tip.
Everyday with this bullshit.
flash cash and compliment servers
make sure you never have the same server twice.
if you're traveling, never at the same cafe or restaurant, you're fine
You don't have to legally tip anywhere. Pay the cost of the goods or specific service you receive. If a meal costs you $45 in a restaurant, pay $45 and not a fucking cent more.
If Americans wanted more money, they'd have voted for politicians that support pay rises for minimum wage and supported their unions.
Let them lie in the filthy, poor beds they made.
In every single case. Tipping is never mandatory.
cool story bro
Truth right here
I hope you catch coronavirus and die here you stingy eurotrash.
t. Shitty waiter who isn't even paid the mininum wage and gets angry at the customer instead of his employer
I’ve never tipped. It’s unnecessary, if waiters want more money they can get a better job.
You're supposed to tip at the end of every interaction that isn't classified as personal, under the law.
As a server, I would rather not get your couple dollars than ever live in the shit country you do
Daily reminder that servants cannot earn less than minimum wage
If you tip, the employer deducts that from his hourly rate. You are essentially tipping the owner
dol.gov
Easy user, never tip niggers, rude, ugly or thot women. Do tip cool waiterbros and nice girls. Mutts generally tip 10% I think
Seriously fuck off OP.
Lol imagine working a shit job in a shit country and kissing your country's ass for it.
You dont even live in one of those shit countries that reward patriotism. What's the point?
Am “mutt” and tip exactly 0%.
thats only assuming they don't pocket the money and don't report the money as a tip like most do and then get more.
They make $2.15 an hour you are suppose to tip.
That's false user
They cannot earn less than minimum wage even if nobody tips.
Stop spreading this lie
You mean the country I live in where as a server I'd still be earning around double what you do in your shit-hole country?
Only tip if the service is actually good at the restaurant. If not, don’t.
At customs you will undergo a penis inspection and be demanded to remove your tip. This is a legal requirement.
Yea and as a server you never will live in another country, stay poor and stupid
So many amerifats mad because they have to tip
Do what I do and tip just enough to get them to minimum wage as the responsibility of their job dictates
15%
this clause doesn't apply to any establishment as they all have their own policy which favors the server by not only letting them keep 100% of their tips, but a fee to compensate servers for inadequate tips is added into the customer's bill
which is why servers end up having to claim their tips as taxable earnings at the end of the year
but nice try
dude make the minimum wage $50
Where the fuck are people working that actually pays below min wage? I've been in a few tipped positions and have never made below min wage. I've never heard anyone complain about this irl. Why is this always the center of this topic?
Tip a slutty waitress to suck you behind the restaurant!
It's not a clause you retard
I even posted the link to the relevant page for the department of labor
Minimum wage is federal law.
Even for a retard like you, the word minimum should be pretty implicit
Because the employer pays them below minimum wage and the customers pay the rest.
People are starting to see this for the backwards bullshit that it really is
nigger learn to read, I said I have literally never seen this happen in reality or heard anyone complain about it irl. Everywhere, the base wage is at least min wage regardless of tips. I agree that paying below min wage is abusive bullshit, but I don't know of a single place that actually does this.
Kind of reminds me, there's an law in my state that when driving a vehicle and you see a horse coming, you must pull over to the side of the road and take it apart as to not scare the horse.
How much for that?
Every restaurant does it
When the staff receive tips, the employer deducts them from the amount they have to directly pay the employee.
The staff earn at least minimum wage, but the amount the employer is paying them is well below minimum.
You don't have to tip there's no legal penalty for not tipping but however there are potential social penalties for not tipping. 10% for good service user.
I'll help.
If a person refills your drink, tip
Everything else is optional.
